Codling.moth is a major.pest of.apples and pear. wor.dwide. Incr.asing.knowledg. of.how this insect r.sponds to envir.nmental str.ss will impr.ve f.eld and posthar.est contr.l measur.s used ag.inst it. The small heat shock pr.teins （shsps） play a maj or.r.le in cellular.r.sponses to envir.nmental str.ssor.. A deg.ner.te olig.nucleotide pr.mer. desig.ed ag.inst the conser.ed α-cr.stallin domain, was used in 3＇ r.pid amplif.cation of.complementar. DNA （cDNA） ends r.actions to amplif. tr.nscr.pts encoding.shsps expr.ssed in the codling.moth cell line, Cp169, subjected to heat shock. Thr.e f.ll-leng.h cDNAs wer. cloned f.om Cp169 cells that contained open r.ading.f.ames encoding.shsps. The cDNA f.r.Cphsp 19.8 was 795 bp encoding.177 amino acids. The cDNA f.r.Cphsp 19.9 was 749 bp encoding.175 amino acids. The cDNA f.r.Cphsp22.2 was 737 bp encoding.192 amino acids. Analysis of.the pr.tein sequences of.the thr.e Cphsps indicated the pr.sence of.83 amino acids with homolog. to the α-cr.stallin domain. f.r.each of.the Cphsps, the α-cr.stallin domain was sur.ounded by diver.ent N- and C-ter.inal r.g.ons, consistent with the conser.ed str.ctur.l f.atur.s of.shsps. r.al-time polymer.se chain r.action, used to deter.ine the expr.ssion patter.s of.each of.the shsps in dif.er.nt developmental stag.s of.codling.moth r.vealed the pr.sence of.tr.nscr.pts in all stag.s tested. Consistent with char.cter.stics of.other.shsps, expr.ssion of.Cphsp tr.nscr.pts wer. g.0}atly enhanced when insects wer. subjected to heat shock. The r.sults of.this r.sear.h can be used as a g.ide to study the r.les of.shsps in codling.moth contr.l using.var.ous post-har.est tr.atments.

The potato psyllid, Baeter.cer. （= Par.tr.oza） cocker.lli （g.lc）（hemipter.： Tr.ozidae）, is a major.pest of.potato. Studies wer. conducted to deter.ine the ag. at which both males and f.males r.ach r.pr.ductive matur.ty and the ef.ect of.ag. and time of.day on sex attr.ction. Adult B. cocker.lli r.ach r.pr.ductive matur.ty within 48 h post-eclosion, with f.males being.matur. on the day of.eclosion and males at 1 day post-eclosion. Oviposition g.ner.lly beg.n 2 days af.er.mating.but was delayed when f.males mated within 2 days post-eclosion. In labor.tor. olf.ctometer.assays, the ag. of.f.males used as odor.sour.es and the ag. of.males assayed to these odor. did not af.ect sex attr.ction, with both young.r.（1-4-day-old） and older.（8-10-day-old） males being.attr.cted to f.males, r.gardless of.f.male ag. （1-4-day-old or.8-10-day-old）. Males assayed to live f.males at dif.er.nt times dur.ng.the photophase （between 8：00 and 20：00 hour.） wer. attr.cted to f.males between 11：00 and 17：00 hour., showing.a tempor.l per.odicity in sex attr.ction with B. cocker.lli at least dur.ng.the photophase.
