Introduc.ion:The manifestations of syphilis are varied,and serology c.n establish the diagnosis early,espec.ally in rare *** report a c.se of c.anc.e redux(a rare rec.rrenc. of primary syphilis),whic. was embedded within a sec.ndary syphilitic.penile skin *** were missed opportunities at earlier diagnosis as serology for syphilis was not *** presentation:A 56-year-old man presented with thic.ened penile plaques for five *** reported a small penile ulc.r approximately one month *** was no history of other skin lesions or ***,c.inic.lly there was an asymptomatic.indurated ulc.r embedded within a plaque whic. was swab-positive for syphilis by Pc..A punc. biopsy of a plaque was spiroc.aete-positive using an immunoperoxidase *** patient’s lesions resolved three weeks after treatment with intramusc.lar benzathine ***:Unc.mmonly reported even in the preantibiotic.era,c.anc.e redux is now *** ulc.r usually rec.rs at or near the site of the original c.anc.e,and has similar morphologic.l *** skin lesions of sec.ndary syphilis c.n exhibit remarkable morphologic.l *** most c.mmon skin manifestation,a generalized mac.lar rash,was not present at any time in this ***,there were only a c.uple of nonspec.fic.penile *** biopsy is performed,histologic.findings are variable,though typic.lly the inflammatory infiltrate inc.udes plasma c.lls.A spec.al immunoperoxidase stain c.n highlight spiroc.aetes in biopsy ***:This c.se highlights the importanc. of c.nsidering syphilis in the differential diagnosis of persistent,atypic.l penile lesions and undersc.res the need for appropriate serologic.l testing in suc. instanc.s.

c.ntaminants,suc. as polyc.lorinated biphenyls(Pc.s),polyc.c.ic.aromatic.hydroc.rbons(PAHs),heavy metals,and per and polyfluoroalkyl substanc.s(PFASs),primarily reac. the Arc.ic.through long-range atmospheric.and oc.anic.***,loc.l sourc.s within the Arc.ic.also c.ntribute to the levels observed in the environment,inc.uding legac. sourc.s and new sourc.s that arise from ac.ivities assoc.ated with inc.easing c.mmerc.al and industrial *** c.ty of Iqaluit in Frobisher Bay,Nunavut(c.nada),has seen rapid population growth and assoc.ated development during rec.nt dec.des yet remains a site of interest for oc.an protec.ion,where Inuit c.ntinue to harvest c.untry *** the present study,seven dated marine sediment c.res c.llec.ed in Koojesse Inlet near Iqaluit,and from sites in inner and outer Frobisher Bay,respec.ively,were analyzed for total merc.ry(THg),major and trac. elements,PAHs,Pc.s,and *** sedimentary rec.rd in Koojesse Inlet shows a period of Aroc.or 1260-like Pc. input c.nc.rrent with military site presenc. in the 1950e60s,followed by dec.des of input of pyrogenic.PAHs,averaging about ten times bac.ground ***-surfac. sediments in Koojesse Inlet also show evidenc. of transient loc.l-sourc. inputs of THg and PFASs,and rec.c.ing or c.ntinued slow release of Pc.s from legac. land-based *** in PFAS c.ngener c.mposition c.early distinguish the loc.l sourc.s from long-range *** Koojesse Inlet but still in inner Frobisher Bay,9.2 km from Iqaluit,sediments showed evidenc. of both loc.l sourc.(Pc.)and longrange *** outer Frobisher Bay,an up-c.re inc.ease in THg and PFASs in sediments may be explained by ongoing inputs of these c.ntaminants from long-range *** c.ntext for oc.an protec.ion and c.untry food harvesting in this region of the Arc.ic.c.early involves both loc.l sourc.s and long-range transport,with past human ac.ivities leaving a long legac. insofar as levels of persistent o

This study investigates the relationship between c.rc.lation patterns and austral summer temperature anomalies in southern Afric.. The results show that the formation of c.ntinental lows tends to inc.ease the thic.ness of the lower atmosphere. Further, the distinc. variabilities of high and low pressure under the c.rc.lation types, influenc. air mass advec.ion from the adjac.nt oc.ans, as well as atmospheric.stability over land. Stronger antic.c.onic.c.rc.lation at the western branc. of the Masc.rene high-pressure system enhanc.s the low-level c.ld air advec.ion by southeast winds,dec.eases the thic.ness, and lowers the temperature over a majority of the land in southern Afric.. c.nversely, a weaker Masc.rene High, c.upled with enhanc.d c.c.onic.ac.ivity in the southwest Indian Oc.an inc.eases low-level warm air advec.ion and inc.eases temperature anomalies over vast regions in southern Afric.. The ridging of a c.osed South Atlantic.antic.c.one at the southern c.ast of southern Afric. results in c.lder temperatures near the tip of southern Afric. due to enhanc.d low-level c.ld air advec.ion by southeast winds. However, when the ridge is weak and westerly winds dominate the southern c.ast of southern Afric., these areas experienc. temperature inc.eases. The northward trac. of the Southern Hemisphere mid-latitude c.c.one, whic. c.n be linked to the negative Southern Annular Mode, reduc.s the temperature in the southwestern part of southern Afric.. Despite the importanc. of ontogenetic.data on early diverging euarthropods to our understanding of the ec.logy and evolution of past life, the data are distinc.ly lac.ing, as rec.nstruc.ing life histories of fossil animals is often c.allenging. Here we report the growth trajec.ory of frontal appendages of the apex predator Amplec.obelua symbrac.iata, one of the most c.mmon radiodont arthropods from the early c.mbrian c.engjiang biota(c. 520 Ma) of c.ina. Analysis of 432 spec.mens(9.1–137.1 mm length; 1.3–25.6 mm height) reveals that appendages grew isometric.lly, with an estimated maximum size of the whole animal of c. 90 c.. Individuals grew rapidly c.mpared to extant arthropods, as assessed using the elec.ronic.length-frequenc. analysis(ELEFAN) approac.. Therefore, we show that the c.mbrian apex predator A. symbrac.iata was an extremely fast-growing arthropod, with an unusual life history strategy that formed as part of the esc.latory ‘arms rac.’ that shaped the c.mbrian explosion over 500 Ma.

Ac.ording to the sec.nd law of thermodynamic., as c.rrently understood, any given transit of a system along the reversible path proc.eds with a total entropy c.ange equal to zero. The fac. that this c.ndition is also the identifier of thermodynamic.equilibrium, makes eac. and every point along the reversible path a state of equilibrium, and the reversible path, as expressed by a noted thermodynamic.author, “a dense suc.ession of equilibrium states”. The diffic.lties with these notions are plural. The fac., for example, that systems need to be forc.d out of equilibrium via the expenditure of work, would make any spontaneous reversible proc.ss a c.nsumer of work, this in opposition to c.mmon thermodynamic.wisdom that makes spontaneous reversible proc.sses the most effic.ent transformers of work-produc.ng-potential into ac.ual work. The solution to this and other related impasses is provided by Dialec.ic.l Thermodynamic. via its previously proved notion assigning a negative entropy c.ange to the energy upgrading proc.ss represented by the transformation of heat into work. The said solution is here exemplified with the ideal-gas phase isomerization of butane into isobutane.
