The probability calculus and statistics as well permeate nearly every discipline and professional sector, while no theories underpinning this wide spreading field reached universal consensus so far. The probability interpretations present irreconcilable traits, so the concept of probability is still substantially unclear. Purpose of this work: The present paper intends to demonstrate how the different models of probability constitute the facial problem which conceals another hidden and more fundamental question. Method: We show how authors do not agree with the concept of probability P and moreover they have different ideas about the precise object qualified by P, which has priority from the point of logic. It is clear how the element X measured by P(X) influences its meaning. In consequence of the conflicting opinions, theorists tend toward a compromise. They use the outcome or result of an experiment as the argument X of P(X) and represent X as a subset of the event space. This paper suggests replacing the outcome-subset with the event-triad E, which provides a comprehensive mathematical support. Results: The last section shows how the triadic model is formally consistent with the conventional theories and can integrate the conflicting views on probability. This unifying result can help mathematicians to go beyond the present theoretical deadlock. In summary, this paper advocates a more explicit notation system for probability and points out how probability can be ambiguous without rigorous specification of the sample space and the experiment in general.

As part of Routledge's expansive series focused on "Studies in Rhetoric and Communication,one will find Scot Barnett's (2017) Rhetorical Realism: Rhetoric, Ethics, and the Ontology of Things. Barnett's contribution is a good reminder that philosophy can benefit from the insights derived from the rhetorical tradition, especially when it comes to speculating about reality. This point is clearly evident in Bametfs thoughtful articulation of the claim,"that attunements to nonhuman beings and extrahuman realities are nothing new for rhetoric"(5). Barnett saliently argues for how rhetoric is ideally situated to help new philosophical schools of thought like speculative realism.

Counting has always been one of the most important operations for human be-ings. Naturally, it is inherent in economics and business. We count with the unique arithmetic, which humans have used for millennia. However, over time, the most inquisitive thinkers have questioned the validity of standard arithmetic in certain settings. It started in ancient Greece with the famous philosopher Zeno of Elea, who elaborated a number of paradoxes questioning popular knowledge. Millennia later, the famous German researcher Herman Helmholtz (1821-1894) [1] expressed reservations about applicability of conventional arithmetic with respect to physical phenomena. In the 20th and 21st century, mathematicians such as Yesenin-Volpin (1960) [2], Van Bendegem (1994) [3], Rosinger (2008) [4] and others articulated similar concerns. In validation, in the 20th century expressions such as 1 + 1 = 3 or 1 + 1 = 1 occurred to reflect important characteristics of economic, business, and social processes. We call these expressions synergy arithmetic. It is common notion that synergy arithmetic has no meaning mathematically. However in this paper we mathematically ground and explicate synergy arithmetic.

水蛭(Bassianobdella fusca) 是澳洲东部大部分地区的常见种, 已被报道通过汲血获取营养, 一般认为该种是两栖类成体、鱼类及无脊椎动物的寄生物。在对悉尼西部蛙类做深入研究中发现, B. fusca 是普通东方小蛙( Limnodynastes tasmaniensis) 卵的捕食者, 并不寄生于该种蛙的成体。研究中亦未发现B. fusca寄生于当地任何其它蛙类, 包括与Limnodynastes 属共栖的种类。产后24 小时内的蛙卵最易被捕食。按摄取蛙卵的速率估算, 自然密度下的B. fusca具有捕食某些蛙整窝蛙卵的潜力。

蛙类衰退是过去二十年来全球许多地区倍受关注的问题, 澳大利亚似乎是衰退的热点地区。当前研究所形成的主流假设是, 真菌Batachochytrium dendrobatidis 引发的壶菌病导致蛙类种群衰退。我们在毗邻农业和城市发展区的天然未开垦林地内, 用陷阱捕捉三个与大面积临时湿地相连生境中的蛙类。作为这项庞大研究工作的一部分, 我们观察了壶菌流行病, 确认了这类真菌的感染率。在各年份中, 该地蛙类中仅斑点草蛙(Limnodynastes tasmaniensis) 有些个体因此类病症死亡, 尽管该种的若干近缘种亦是该地蛙类的一部分; 病疫流行的证据仅见于其中一个年份。在所有具有典型壶菌病症状死亡的动物中, 仅22%的动物表皮受真菌感染。虽然种群中存在壶菌病, 我们认为这不是影响种群内个体死亡率的近因。根据这一观察, 我们质疑B. dendro batidis 是蛙类死亡主要原因假设的正确性。

背景：重度卒中患者最后拔管死亡人数越来越多。终止治疗时机的差别提示存在延长患者不必要痛苦或造成不必要死亡的可能性。目的：回顾机械通气卒中患者预后的现有证据，为临床医生、患者及家属优化临床决策提供一总体框架。资料来源：于MEDLINE搜索1980年到2005年3月有关机械通气卒中患者预后的英文文章。我们从搜集的689篇文章中选出17篇进行综述。我们还确定了维持生命治疗应用过度或应用不足的影响因素以及可能造成的决策偏差，重点放在机械通气因素。证据综合：实施机械通气的卒中患者总死亡率很高，30天死亡率接近58％（文献报道范围，46％～75％）。尽管资料有限，但是高达1／3的存活者没有或仅有轻度残疾，然而其余患者则有重度残疾。我们可以根据对卒中综合征的认识、患者早期特征、临床预测规则以及持续干预的必要性进一步判断患者的转归。影响选择生命支持治疗的因素包括：将来临床缺陷的严重程度和类型，临床缺陷发生的可能性，以及治疗的负担。可能影响终止治疗决策制定的偏差包括：预后评估错误，沟通方式不当，错误理解患者的价值观和期望，以及未能正确评价患者的生理和心理适应程度。结论：虽然实施机械通气的卒中患者预后一般很差，但是确实有少数患者存活而且没有严重残疾。可以根据临床表现和患者特征评估预后。急需更好地了解这些患者治疗上的标志性差异，急需可靠地权衡并改善这种以患者为中心的决策。
