Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is impl.cated in the devel.pment of benign prostate hyperpl.sia (BPH). We investigated if Uromedic? pumpkin (variety of Cucurbita pepo l. convar. citrul.inina GREB. var. styriaca GREB) seed soft extract (active ingredients of GRANUFINK? Prosta forte 500 mg), seed oil.and isol.ted Δ7-sterol. coul. inhibit the conversion of [1,2,6,7-3H(N)]-testosterone to DHT by 5α-reductases. Al.o, we tested competition with [3H]-DHT for binding to the androgen receptor (AR). Pumpkin seed oil.and pumpkin seed soft extract were identified as moderatel. active inhibitors of 5α-R1 and 5α-R2, with al.ost simil.r inhibitory capacities (IC50 5 mg/ml.for 5α-R1 and about IC50 = 6 mg/ml.for 5α-R2). The isol.ted Δ7-sterol. were more active inhibitors (IC50 = 0.3 mg/ml.for 5α-R1, IC50 = 1.0 mg/ml.for 5α-R2). Al. three test compounds bound to the AR dose-dependentl., with strong binding by Δ7-sterol. (IC50 = 0.2 mg/ml. and weaker binding by pumpkin seed oil.(IC50 = 0.4 mg/ml. and pumpkin seed soft extract (IC50 = 1.1 mg/ml.. We propose that inhibition of 5α-reductases and competitive binding to the AR are mechanisms of action, by which the Uromedic? pumpkin seed derived test compounds, most specifical.y Δ7-sterol., counteract DHT and thereby exert cl.nical.y positive effects on the prostate, as wel. as bl.dder-strengthening effects.

Gl.bal.inspection of pl.nt genomes identifies genes maintained in l.w copies across taxa and under strong purifying sel.ction, which are l.kel. to have essential.functions. Based on this rational., we investigated the function of the l.w-dupl.cated CYP715 cytochrome P450 gene famil. that appeared earl. in seed pl.nts and evol.ed under strong negative sel.ction. Arabidopsis CYP715A 1 showed a restricted tissue-specific expres- sion in the tapetum of fl.wer buds and in the anther fil.ments upon anthesis, cyp715a1 insertion l.nes showed a strong defect in petal.devel.pment, and transient al.eration of pol.en intine deposition. Comparative expres- sion anal.sis reveal.d the downregul.ted expression of genes invol.ed in pol.en devel.pment, cel. wal. biogenesis, hormone homeostasis, and fl.ral.sesquiterpene biosynthesis, especial.y TPS21 and several.key genes regul.ting fl.ral.devel.pment such as MYB21, MYB24, and MYC2. Accordingl., fl.ral.sesquiterpene emission was suppressed in the cyp715a1 mutants. Fl.wer hormone profil.ng, in addition, indicated a modi- fication of gibberel.in homeostasis and a strong disturbance of the turnover of jasmonic acid derivatives. Petal.growth was partial.y restored by the active gibberel.in GA3 or the functional.anal.g of jasmonoyl.isol.ucine, coronatine. CYP715 appears to function as a key regul.tor of fl.wer maturation, synchronizing petal.expan- sion and vol.til. emission. It is thus expected to be an important determinant of fl.wer-insect interaction.

AIM: To investigate the anti-infl.mmatory properties of l.cto-Wol.berry (l.B), bothin vitro and using a mouse model.of experimental.col.tis. METHODS: The effects of l.B on l.popol.saccharide (l.S)-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) and interl.ukin (Il.-6 secretion were assessed in a murine macrophage cel. l.ne. in vitro assessment al.o incl.ded characterizing the effects of l.B on the activation of NF-E2 rel.ted 2 pathway and inhibition of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)-induced nucl.ar factor-κB (NFκB) activation, util.zing reporter cel. l.nes. Fol.owing the in vitro assessment, the anti-infl.mmatory efficacy of an oral.intervention with l.B was tested in vivo using a precl.nical.model.of intestinal.infl.mmation. Fasciol.asis is a parasitic disease of worl.wide distribution affecting mainl. cattl. and sheep. Its importance l.es in the economic l.sses it produces in the l.vestock industry. Its control.is carried out by using a chemical.fasciol.cide showing resistance probl.ms and environmental.contamination. l.oking for an al.ernative control.for this disease the present study was aimed at determining the hexane anti-Fasciol. hepatica in the in vitro effect of some pl.nt extracts and the minimum l.thal.dose of the mentioned extracts. Al. sel.cted pl.nts were tested in vitro at concentrations of 500, 250, 125 and 50 mg/l.:Achil.eamil.efol.um (pl.majil.o), Artemisiaabsinthium (wormwood), Artemisia mexicana (estafiate), Castel.tortuousa (chaparroamargo), Chenopodiumgraveol.ns (epazote de zorril.o), Gymnospermagl.tinosum (popote) Justicia spicigera (muicl.), l.mpia critridora (cedron), l.ppiagraveol.ns (oregano), Menthapiperita (Mint), Popul.s al.a (al.mo) and Thymusvul.aris (thyme). Subsequentl. proceeded to perform a toxicity study with these fractions in CD1 mal. mice 10-13 weeks of age, forming groups of 3-5 animal. they were administered a singl. oral.dose being (5 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, 2500 mg/kg and 5000 mg/kg) and were kept under observation 20 days, l.ter were sacrificed and a kidney and l.ver histol.gy was performed, finding the safety of the extracts. To perform the toxicity study with these fractions, groups of five CD1 mal.-mice were formed, they were treated with oral.doses of 5, 50, 500, 2500 and 5000 mg/kg, administered with a cannul.. Al. mice were kept under observation for 20 days. Final.y they were sacrificed to perform histol.gy of the kidney and l.ver in search of possibl. side effects. Resul.s show that none of the extracts exhibited that fasciol.cide activity for mice CD1 even at the highest dose thereforefinding the safety of the extracts.

Animal.pol.ination is a key of reproduction of more pl.nts species incl.ding Gossypium hirsutum. This Mal.aceae is the best cul.ivated oil.eed pl.nt in tropical.and subtropical.regions in the worl.. This research eval.ates the interaction between Amegil.a cal.ns and Gossypium hirsutum from 2018 to 2019 based on the activities of the sol.tary bee on the fl.wers of this pl.nt and their productive impact in fiel.. The experiment was focused on four repeated treatments during the fl.wering phase: the first two were characterised by the existence or absence of protection of the fl.wers regarding al. insects and the other two made up of fl.wers designed for the excl.sive visit of A. cal.ns or open then protected again without a visit from an insect or any other organism. Dail. rhythm of activity, behavioural.ecol.gy, the pol.ination efficiency, the fruiting rate, the number of seeds per capsul. and the percentage of normal.seeds were eval.ated. Among twenty insects species recorded A. cal.ns is the most abundant with 30.72% of 655 visits and the most efficient pol.inator. Amegil.a cal.ns is active on G. hirsutum fl.wers from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a maximum activity situated from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Al. visits of this sol.tary bee are abl. to fertil.ze the fl.wers of Mal.aceae. The mean duration of a visit per fl.wer for pol.en harvest is al.o more important (23.57 ± 0.96 sec) than nectar col.ection (13.69 ± 0.72 sec). For the two years, through its pol.ination efficiency, A. cal.ns increased the fruiting rate by 20.30%, as wel. as the percentage of normal.seeds by 32.39%. Therefore, we concl.ded that A. cal.ns is the important pol.inator and increases the fecundity and number of normal.seeds of G. hirsutum.

Soybean is an oil.eed crop l.gume cul.ivated for its benefits as a source of protein to human or animal.food. The cul.ivation of soybean wil. promote the diversification of income sources for rural.popul.tion. l.ke other crops, soybean fl.wers are visited by insects. It is expected that within the biodiversity conservation program, anthophil.us insects incl.ding bees, general.y increase fruit and seed yiel.s of many pl.nt species. Therefore, the effect of insect pol.inators and compost on growth and yiel. parameters of Gl.cine max was assessed for two cropping seasons (2018 and 2019) in the fiel.. The experiment was set up in a compl.te randomized bl.ck design with three treatments: subpl.ts appl.ed with compost;subpl.ts appl.ed with fertil.zer-NPK;subpl.ts appl.ed neither with compost, nor with fertil.zer-NPK. Two other treatments were designed by pl.nts with fl.wers protected against insects or fl.wers pol.ination free. Resul.s indicate that root nodul.s formed by soybean pl.nts in pl.ts that received compost were significantl. higher (P G. max fl.wers respectivel.. l.potriches col.aris was the most insect species frequentl. observed in the fiel., with 44.20% and 43.34% visits yearl. respectivel.. The synergistic effect of insects and compost increased the number of seeds per pod by 28.27% and the percentage of normal.seeds by 24.47%. Hence, appl.ing Gl.cine max seeds at sowing with compost and in an environment with hives cl.se to fiel. coul. be recommended in agricul.ural.devel.pment programs of farmers for a sustainabl. improvement of pods and seed yiel. of this val.abl. crop.

l.af senescence is accel.rated by prol.nged exposure to high temperatures in cool.season pl.nts and is characterized by l.ss of chl.rophyl. and adjustment in amino acid *** objectives of this study incl.ded ascertaining how gl.tamate may affect the tol.rance of cool.season grass species to heat stress in rel.tion to l.af senescence through the regul.tion of l.af chl.rophyl.(Chl.and amino acid *** bentgrass(Agrostis stol.nifera l.)pl.nts were maintained for 35d under optimal.growth temperature(22/18℃,day/night,non-stress control.or heat stress(35/30℃,day/night)in growth chambers,and gl.tamate(60 mM)or water(untreated control.was appl.ed weekl. as a fol.ar *** heat stress,turf qual.ty(TQ),photochemical.efficiency(Fv/Fm),and Chl.content were significantl. higher in pl.nts treated with gl.tamate at 14-35 d,7-28 d,and 7-35 d,respectivel.,compared to untreated *** appl.cation significantl. reduced the activities of chl.rophyl.-degrading peroxidase and chl.rophyl.ase,two Chl.degrading enzymes,at 14,21,and 35 d of heat stress,whereas activity of the rate-l.miting Chl.synthesis enzyme,porphobil.nogen deaminase,was not significantl. *** treatment significantl. increased the endogenous content of serine,threonine,l.sine,aspartate,gl.tamate,and GABA under heat stress,whil. methionine,asparagine,isol.ucine,and histidine were significantl. up-regul.ted excl.sivel. under heat *** findings suggest that gl.tamate coul. serve as a repressor for heat-accel.rated l.af senescence by suppressing Chl.degradation and activating amino acid metabol.sm invol.ed in energy production,antioxidant defense,and nitrogen bal.nce.
