Life cycle assessment as a prospective tool for sustainable agriculture and food planning at a local level

Owing to the far-reaching environmental consequences of agriculture and food systems,such as their contribution to climate change,there is an urgent need to reduce their *** and national governments set sustainability targets and implement corresponding ***,critics of the globalized system claim that a territorial administrative scale is better suited to address sustainability ***,at the subnational level,local authorities rarely apply a systemic environmental assessment to enhance their action *** paper employs a territorial life cycle assessment methodology to improve local environmental agri-food *** objective is to identify significant direct and indirect environmental hotspots,their origins,and formulate effective mitigation *** methodology is applied to the administrative department of Finistere,a strategic agricultural region in North-Western *** environmental criteria including climate change,fossil resource scarcity,toxicity,and land use are *** findings reveal that the primary environmental hotspots of the studied local food system arise from indirect sources,such as livestock feed or diesel *** reduction and organic farming conversion emerge as the most environmentally efficient strategies,resulting in a 25%decrease in the climate change ***,the overall modeled impact reduction is insufficient following national objectives and remains limited for the land use *** results highlight the innovative application of life cycle assessment led at a local level,offering insights for the further advancement of systematic and prospective local agri-food ***,they provide guidance for local authorities to enhance the sustainability of planning strategies.

Background: Experimental studies have shown that cyclo-oxygenase-2 (cox2) is related to the development and progression of tumors, since this enzyme is induced and expressed by cells such as macrophages, osteoblasts, “activated” endothelial cells, and tumor cells. The activity in tumors includes proliferation, cell transformation, tumor growth, invasion and metastasis and may play an important role in carcinogenesis of the canine osteosarcoma, since it has high expression in tissue fragments. The combination of selective cox2 inhibitors and other treatment modalities is the basis for a new anti-cancer therapy strategy. This in vitro study exposed primary cells of five different canine osteosarcoma cultures to selective cox2 inhibitor at increasing concentrations and times. Results: For cox2 negative cultures, despite the absence of differences, greater sensitivity of cells to treatment was observed. For cox2 positive cultures, a higher number of necrotic cells were observed (P ≤ 0.05), when compared with negative cultures. For exposure times with celecoxib doses, no difference (P > 0.05) was found between the three times analyzed for living, apoptotic and apoptotic/necrotic cells. There are similarities in the values of 24 h and 48 h, with slight reduction of living cells, increasing those undergoing apoptosis and apoptosis/necrosis. There was significance for necrosis (P ≤ 0.05). In 72 hours, a significant difference was observed between the other two previous values (P ≤ 0.05). It was found for the group of 100 μML-1, that there was a numerically greater signaling for apoptosis and lower (P = 0.08) for necrosis, and this point was the onset of the pharmacodynamic phenomenon, with drop in the values for living cells and increased number of necrotic cells, with a tendency (P = 0.08) for reducing the percentage of necrotic cells for the group of 100 μML-1 when compared to that of 10 μML-1. conclusions: For cox2 positive and negative cultures, there was difference for

Dissemination of Resistance Integrons and Genes coding for Blse and cabapenemases in the Urban Drainage Network in cote d’Ivoire

Antibiotic resistance has become a major threat to human health worldwide. Environment, particularly the water environment, has long been overlooked as a player in the antibiotic resistance cycle, although its role remains unclear. These can provide an ideal setting for the acquisition and dissemination of antibiotic resistance, as they are frequently affected by anthropogenic activities. The objective of this study was to establish a diffusion map of resistance integrons used as genetic markers of resistance associated with antibiotic resistance conferring genes (ARGs). Total DNA extracts from non-cultivable bacterial communities were used for the analyses. These communities were obtained from wastewater samples from 14 sites upstream and downstream of drainage channels or effluents in the cities of Abidjan, Bouaké, and Yamoussoukro. The results obtained correspond to the number of positives among the treated samples (n = 39). Among the genetic markers of dissemination, class 1 integrons were the most evident in 94.8% of samples in Abidjan (93.3%), Bouaké (100%) and Yamoussoukro (91.6%). class 2 integrons and class 3 integrons were found respectively in 41% and 51% of all samples. Genes coding for β-lactamases and blaTEM was identified in almost all samples at a rate of 97.4%. A co-presence of the three genes blaTEM, blaSHV and blacTX-M is also remarkable in the sites of the city of Yamoussoukro. Among the genes coding for carbapenemases, only blaKPc 17.94%, blaNDM 30.76% and blaOXA48 38.46% were detected in the samples.

We report the charge-changing cross sections(σ_(cc))of 24 p-shell nuclides on both hydrogen and carbon at about 900A MeV,of which^(8,9)Li,^(10–12)Be,^(10,14,15)B,^(14,15,17–22)N and^(16)O on hydrogen and^(8,9)Li on carbon are for the first *** from the data set,we found a new and robust relationship between the scaling factor of the Glauber model calculations and the separation energies of the nuclei of interest on both *** allows us to deduce proton radii(R_p)for the first time from the cross sections on *** identical R_p values are deduced from both target data for the neutron-rich carbon isotopes;however,the R_p from the hydrogen target is systematically smaller in the neutron-rich nitrogen *** calls for further experimental and theoretical investigations.

The sarcoma is the generic nomenclature for neoplasm of mesodermal cells, which express in man and animals. Silent growth requires early diagnosis technique for identifying their proteins. The experimental model in vivo murine sarcoma 180-TG (TG-180), is widely used in research to provide the stimuli of infectious and neoplastic antigens. In this case, the technique of immunohisto-chemistry helps identify the expressions of tumor cell variants. The objective of the research was to characterize immunoexpression murine sarcoma TG 180, by immunohistochemistry, antibodies AE1/AE3, vimentin, cD3, cD 45, cD79α and S100A4. For this, murine sarcoma TG-180, was implanted subcutaneously in 20 mice “Swiss”, male, 30 days old, 28 g for 10 days. Samples were taken and subjected to immunohistochemistry, via use of HistoMouse-MA™? kit. There was specifically labeled S100A4 and vimentin antibodies, indicative of poorly differentiated neoplasms fibroblasts. In fact, the model is established by identifying the origin of the cell, once identified, chemotherapeutic tests can also be performed. Neoplasia like these, when installed in man and animals, depending on the degree of aggressiveness requires treatment protocol varied between surgery and chemotherapy or combination of treatments.

Metastasis of Mammary carcinoma in Bitches: Evaluation of the Sentinel Lymph Node Technique

In recent years the development of extremely accurate techniques for the removal of lymph nodes has been seen, such as the Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB) technique. The technique is based on the staggered progression occurring in the lymphatic drainage of neoplasias, and is currently the main prognostic and diagnostic factor in women suffering from mammary carcinoma. This research aims at assessing the sentinel lymph node biopsy accuracy in female dogs suffering from mammary carcinoma. Forty-one dogs with cytological diagnosis of the tumor were used in the research. After injecting a Patent Blue V dye, mastectomy was conducted jointly with lymphadenectomy (for both sentinel and non-sentinel lymph nodes). The material was then serially sectioned and microscopically evaluated by routine H&E stain and immunohistochemical study with the markers for pancytokeratin AE1/AE3 and myoepithelial cells cK14. The study revealed that 46.3% (19/41) of the animals presented nodal metastasis. The sensitivity and specificity values found for SLNB were respectively 89.5% and 100%, with a kappa coefficient of 0.90 and p chnique offers high sensitivity in the early detection of metastases, allowing higher precision in the staging of oncological patients and, therefore, offering higher chances of survival.

Diagnosis and biological behavior of breast cancer of female dog represent one of the biggest challenges facing the Veterinarian in recent years. Due to its exponential growth and the degree of aggressiveness, the exact cause of this tumor is probably multifactorial and it is believed that may suffer influence from environmental factors. Among the suspected environmental contaminants are the pyrethroids. Aiming to investigate the participation of pyrethroids in tumorigenesis in female dogs, a study was conducted using 50 female dogs, 22 were positive for simple breast carcinoma (Group I), 18 with a diagnosis of complex breast carcinoma (Group II) and 10 negative (Group III) for breast cancer. In order to detect DNA damage, the comet assay was performed on mammary samples of these animals, which also had samples submitted to the technique of High Performance Liquid chromatography (HPLc), which aimed to quantify the concentration of pyrethroids. The results of HPLc of each animal were compared with those obtained by the comet assay analysis of variance and the means were compared by the test groups “Student T” at the significance level of p ￡ 0.05. Despite presenting correlation between the amount of DNA damage and tumor aggressiveness, no statistical differences were found in the DNA damage of different histologic types of breast carcinoma. As for pyrethroids, even these were detected in 22% of tumor tissues and peritumoral fat, there was no difference in DNA damage between cells exposed and not exposed to environmental contaminant.

Air/cO2 cooling garment: Description and benefits of use for subjects exposed to a hot and humid climate during physical activities

The severity of the hot and humid conditions to which miners are exposed increases as the depth of the work site *** can cause heat stress that can greatly affect the health and safety of *** resolve this,a cooling garment has been developed that uses an atmospheric discharge of liquid cO2 to create a cool microclimate with an average temperature of 12.5(±0.4)℃ beneath the *** evaluate the garment's cooling efficiency,19 male subjects participated in an experimental *** two modes,cooling on and off,were *** physiological differences were found between the two modes after minute 27(pcovery phase for the heart rate(maximum difference of 10 beats per minute)and the internal body temperature(maximum difference of 0.33℃).It was found that the modes also affected the subjects'*** ON-mode was associated with better well-being and thermal comfort,and reduced humidity *** of exertion were lower in the ON-mode condition from minute *** findings provide strong evidence of the ability of this cooling garment to reduce heat stress in hot and humid conditions similar to those encountered in deep mines.

Visualizing the importance of oxide-metal phase transitions in the production of synthesis gas over Ni catalysts

Synthesis gas, composed of H2 and cO, is an important fuel which serves as feedstock for industrially relevant processes, such as methanol or ammonia synthesis. The efficiency of these reactions depends on the H2: cO ratio, which can be controlled by a careful choice of reactants and catalyst surface ***, using a combination of environmental scanning electron microscopy(ESEM) and online mass spectrometry, direct visualization of the surface chemistry of a Ni catalyst during the production of synthesis gas was achieved for the first time. The insertion of a homebuilt quartz tube reactor in the modified ESEM chamber was key to success of the setup. The nature of chemical dynamics was revealed in the form of reversible oxide-metal phase transitions and surface transformations which occurred on the performing catalyst. The oxide-metal phase transitions were found to control the production of synthesis gas in the temperature regime between 700 and 900 ℃ in an atmosphere relevant for dry reforming of methane(DRM, cO2: cH4=0.75). This was confirmed using high resolution transmission electron microscopy imaging, electron energy loss spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and c18O2 labelled *** dedicated operando approach of simultaneously studying the surface processes of a catalyst and its activity allowed to uncover how phase transitions can steer catalytic reactions.

Bumblebees adjust protein and lipid collection rules to the presence of brood

Animals have evolved foraging strategies to acquire blends of nutrients that maximize fitness traits. In social insects, nu trie nt regulation is complicated by the fact that few in dividuals, the foragers, must address the diverge nt nutritional n eeds of all colony members simulta neously, includi ng other workers, the reproductives, and the brood. Here we used 3D nutritional geometry design to examine how bumblebee workers regulate their collection of 3 major macronutrients in the presence and absenee of brood. We provided small colonies artificial nectars (liquid diets) and pollens (solid diets) varying in their compositions of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates during 2 weeks. colo nies give n a choice betwee n nutrition ally complementary diets self-selected foods to reach a target ratio of 71% proteins, 6% carbohydrates, and 23% lipids, irrespective of the presenee of brood. Whe n con fined to a single nutrition ally imbalanced solid diet, colonies without brood regulated lipid collection and over-collected protein relative to this target ratio, whereas colonies with brood regulated both lipid and protein collection. This brood effect on the regulation of nutrient collection by workers suggests that protein levels are critical for larval development. Our results highlight the importa nee of con sidering bee nu trition as a multidimensi onal phe no men on to better assess the effects of environmental impoverishment and malnutrition on population declines.
