A number of studies have indicated that plasma membrane calcium ATPases(PMCAs) are expressed in the brain and spinal cord and could play important roles not only in the maintenance of cellular calcium homeostasis but also in the survival and function of central nervous system cells under pathological *** different regional and cellular distributions of the various PMCA isoforms and splice variants in the nervous system and the diverse phenotypes of PMCA knockout mice support the notion that each isoform might play a distinct role. Especially in the spinal cord,the survival of neurons and,in particular,motor neurons could be dependent on *** is indicated by the knockdown of PMCA2 in pure spinal cord neuronal cultures that leads to cell death via a decrease in collapsing response mediator protein 1 ***,the progressive decline in the number of motor neurons in PMCA2-null mice andheterozygous mice further supports this ***,the reported reduction in PMCA2 mRNA and protein levels in the inflamed spinal cord of mice affected by experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE) ,an animal model of multiple sclerosis,and after spinal cord contusion injury,suggests that changes in PMCA2 expression could be a cause of neuronal pathology and death during inflammation and *** excitotoxicity mediated via kainate receptors has been implicated in the neuropathology of both EAE and spinal cord injury,and has been identified as a trigger that reduces PMCA2 levels in pure spinal cord neuronal cultures through degradation of the pump by calpain without affecting PMCA2 transcript *** remains to be determined which other stimuli modulate PMCA2 mRNA expression in the aforementioned pathological conditions of the spinal cord.

Liver transplantation is a major abdominal operation and the intimate anatomic relation of the liver with the right hemidiaphragm predisposes the patient to various manifestations in the chest ***,chronic liver disease affects pulmonary function before and after liver transplantation resulting in a considerable percentage of patients presenting with morbidity related to chest *** review aims to identify the potential chest complications of surgical interest during or after liver *** of surgical interest are defined as those conditions that necessitate an invasive procedure(such as thoracocentesis or a chest tube placement)in the chest or a surgical intervention performed by a thoracic *** complications will be classified as perioperative and postoperative;the latter will be categorized as early and *** thoracocentesis or a chest tube placement is usually sufficient when invasive measures are deemed necessary,in some patients,thoracic surgical interventions are warranted.A high index of suspicion is needed to recognize and treat these conditions promptly.A close collaboration between abdominal surgeons,intensive care unit physicians and thoracic surgeons is of paramount importance.

AIM： To investigate the sonographic features at time of diagnosis and follow-up in patients with neutropenic enterocolitis. METHODS： The sonographic findings in 14 patients with neutropenic enterocolitis were described and evaluated regarding symptoms and clinical outcome. RESULTS： In all patients with neutropenic enterocolitis, the ileocoecal region was involved with wall thickening 〉10 mm. A transmural inflammatory pattern, hypervascularity of the thickened bowel wall and free abdominal fluid were the common findings. The sonographically revealed thickness of the bowel wall was associated with lethal outcome （P〈0.03）. In the 11 surviving patients, the improvement of clinical symptoms was accompanied by progressive reduction of intestinal wall thickness. CONCLUSION： High-end sonography of the bowel is a helpful tool for diagnosis, assessment of prognosis and follow-up of patients with neutropenic enterocolitis. The ultrasonographically revealed bowel thickness reflects the severity and the course of the disease, and seems to be predictive for the clinical outcome.

Three-dimensional surface scanning(3DSS)and multi-detector computed tomography(MDCT)are two techniques that are used in legal medicine for digitalizing objects,a body or body parts such as *** these techniques are more and more commonly employed,surprisingly little information is known about the quality rendering of digitalized three-dimensional(3D)models provided by each of *** paper presents findings related to the measurement precision of 3D models obtained through observation of a study case,where a fractured skull reconstructed by an anthropologist was digitalized using both post-mortem imaging *** tomography(CT)scans were performed using an 8-row MDCT unit with two different slice *** variability of 3D CT models superimposition allowed to assess the reproducibility and robustness of this digitalization ***,two 3D surface scans were done using a professional high resolution 3D *** comparison of 3D CT-scans with 3D surface scans by superimposition demonstrated several regions with significant differences in topology(average difference between+1.45 and-1.22 mm).When comparing the reproducibility between these two digitalizing techniques,it appeared that MDCT 3D models led in general to greater variability for measurement precision between scanned ***,the reproducibility was better achieved with the 3D surface digitizer,showing 3D models with fewer and less pronounced differences(from+0.32 to-0.31 mm).These experiments suggest that MDCT provides less reproducible body models than 3D surface *** further studies must be undertaken in order to corroborate this first impression,and possibly explain the reason for these findings.

Objective： To explore the expression pattern of PACAP gene in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome （MDS）. Methods： The expression pattern of PACAP gene in CD34＋ cells from MDS patients was determined by microarray, confirmed in expanding samples by quantitative real-time PCR in bone marrow mononuolear cells. Results： The transcription of PACAP gene was found significantly down-regulated in patients with MDS in comparison with that in control samples, with a means of 220.1 in MDS-RA and 116.8 in MDS-RAEB （P 〈 0.05 ）. Conclusion： PACAP gene is expressed significantly lower in patients with MDS.

Government involvement in banking systems and economic growth:a comparison across countries

This study investigates 92 countries of different legal origins,including 25 English origin,44 French origin,11 Scandinavian and German origin,and 12 socialist origin *** to other countries,China has the highest government ownership of banks,and lies in the middle in terms of official supervisory power over banks,and government efficiency in *** regards economic development measured by per capita GDP growth,in the period from 1995 to 2015,China performed significantly better than all the other countries in the sample–countries varying in legal origin,government ownership of banks,level of economic and financial development,supervisory power over banks,and government *** findings are robust when we examine the country-years with similar per capita GDP as that of *** regression results show that in some circumstances,higher government ownership of banks is associated with higher economic growth and the positive association is more significant in socialist origin *** discussions suggest that the high government involvement in commercial banks fits in well with the unique characteristics of China–such as a large population,underdeveloped economy,imbalance in resources and development in different areas,as well as the utmost trust placed on the Chinese government and government owned banks–thus may benefit economic growth.
