Deep learning in finance and banking:A literature review and classification

Deep learning has been widely applied in computer vision,natural language processing,and audio-visual *** overwhelming success of deep learning as a data processing technique has sparked the interest of the research *** the proliferation of Fintech in recent years,the use of deep learning in finance and banking services has become ***,a detailed survey of the applications of deep lerning in finance and banking is lacking in the existing *** study surveys and analyzes the literature on the application of deep lerning models in the key finance and banking domains to provide a systematic evaluation of the model preprocessing,input data,and model ***,we discuss three aspects that could affect the outcomes of financial deep learning *** study provides academics and practitioners with insight and direction on the state-of-the-art of the application of deep learning models in finance and banking.

The newsvendor model revisited： the impacts of high unit holding costs on the accuracy of the classic model

The newsvendor problem has been applied in various business settings. It is often assumed that the decision variable, i.e., order-up-to level, has no impacts on the holding costs for average inventory cycled in a given period, which is the difference between beginning and ending inventory levels on hand in that period. The average holding cost for this portion of inventory is conveniently and approximately calcutated as half the product of the unit holding cost and the expectation of the demand in one period if it is assumed that the inventory is approximately evenly consumed. It is a good approximation when the unit holding cost is significantly lower than the unit backorder cost as this optimal solution to inventory level is able to guarantee a low probability of understocking. However, if this condition does not hold, the approximation may deviate from the actual cost and cannot measure the expected holding cost for this portion of inventory. This paper examines the impact of the cycle stock holding cost on the newsvendor model and the conditions under which this portion of cost is not negligible.

Government involvement in banking systems and economic growth:a comparison across countries

This study investigates 92 countries of different legal origins,including 25 English origin,44 French origin,11 Scandinavian and German origin,and 12 socialist origin *** to other countries,China has the highest government ownership of banks,and lies in the middle in terms of official supervisory power over banks,and government efficiency in *** regards economic development measured by per capita GDP growth,in the period from 1995 to 2015,China performed significantly better than all the other countries in the sample–countries varying in legal origin,government ownership of banks,level of economic and financial development,supervisory power over banks,and government *** findings are robust when we examine the country-years with similar per capita GDP as that of *** regression results show that in some circumstances,higher government ownership of banks is associated with higher economic growth and the positive association is more significant in socialist origin *** discussions suggest that the high government involvement in commercial banks fits in well with the unique characteristics of China–such as a large population,underdeveloped economy,imbalance in resources and development in different areas,as well as the utmost trust placed on the Chinese government and government owned banks–thus may benefit economic growth.
