The Pan-Eurasian Experiment modelling Platform(PEEX-mP)is one of the key blocks of the PEEX Research *** PEEX mP has more than 30 models and is directed towards seamless envir-onmental *** main focus area is the Arctic-boreal regions and *** models used in PEEX-mP cover several main components of the Earth’s system,such as the atmosphere,hydrosphere,pedosphere and biosphere,and resolve the physicalchemicalbiological processes at different spatial and temporal scales and *** paper introduces and discusses PEEX mP multi-scale modelling concept for the Earth system,online integrated,forward/inverse,and socioeconomical modelling,and other approaches with a particular focus on applications in the PEEX geographical *** employed high-performance com-puting facilities,capabilities,and PEEX dataflow for modelling results are *** virtual research platforms(PEEXView,Virtual Research Environment,Web-based Atlas)for handling PEEX modelling and observational results are *** over-all approach allows us to understand better physical-chemicalbiological processes,Earth’s system interactions and feedbacks and to provide valuable information for assessment studies on evaluating risks,impact,consequences,*** population,envir-onment and climate in the PEEX *** work was also one of the last projects of *** Zilitinkevich,who passed away on 15 February *** the finalization took time,the paper was actually submitted in 2023 and we could not argue that the final paper text was agreed with him.

Real-time estimation of the structural utilization level of segmental tunnel lining

Over the last decades,an expansion of the underground network has been taking place to cope with the increasing amount of moving people and *** a consequence,it is of vital importance to guarantee the full functionality of the tunnel network by means of preventive maintenance and the monitoring of the tunnel lining state over time.A new method has been developed for the real-time prediction of the utilization level in tunnel segmental linings based on input monitoring *** new concept is founded on a framework,which encompasses an offline and an online *** the former,the generation of feedforward neural networks is accomplished by employing synthetically produced *** element simulations of the lining structure are conducted to analyze the structural response under multiple loading *** scenarios are generated by assuming ranges of variation of the model input parameters to account for the uncertainty due to the not fully determined in situ *** and target quantities are identified to better assess the structural utilization of the *** latter phase consists in the application of the methodological framework on input monitored data,which allows for a real-time prediction of the physical quantities deployed for the estimation of the lining *** approach is validated on a full-scale test of segmental lining,where the predicted quantities are compared with the actual ***,it is investigated the influence of artificial noise added to the training data on the overall prediction performances and the benefits along with the limits of the concept are set out.

A recent study published in molecular Psychiatry proposes a cellular mechanism that may contribute to decreased insulin production in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2Dm).1 Using a combination of cell culture experiments,animal models and studies in T2Dm patients,the authors show that an up-regulation of tau inβ-islet cells can inhibit pancreatic insulin secretion through changes in microtubule assembly.

A simulation-based software to support the real-time operational parameters selection of tunnel boring machines

With the fact that the main operational parameters of the construction process in mechanized tunneling are currently selected based on monitoring data and engineering experience without exploiting the advantages of computer methods,the focus of this work is to develop a simulation-based real-time assistant system to support the selection of operational *** choice of an appropriate set of these parameters(i.e.,the face support pressure,the grouting pressure,and the advance speed)during the operation of tunnel boring machines(TBm)is determined by evaluating different tunneling-induced soil-structure interactions such as the surface settlement,the associated risks on existing structures and the tunnel lining *** evaluate soil-structure behavior,an advanced process-oriented numerical simulation model based on the finite cell method is *** enable the real-time prediction capability of the simulation model for a practical application during the advancement of TBms,surrogate models based on the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition and Radial Basis Functions(POD-RBF)are *** proposed approach is demonstrated through several synthetic numerical examples inspired by the data of real tunnel *** developed methods are integrated into a user-friendly application called SmART to serve as a support platform for tunnel engineers at construction *** to each user adjustment of the input parameters,i.e.,each TBm driving scenario,approximately two million outputs of soil-structure interactions are quickly predicted and visualized in seconds,which can provide the site engineers with a rough estimation of the impacts of the chosen scenario on structural responses of the tunnel and above ground structures.

Estimation of the sample position is essential for working process monitoring and management in the life science automation lab*** low-energy(BLE)beacons have the advantages of low price,small size and low energy consumption,which make them a promising solution for sample position estimation in the automated *** fingerprinting models have been proposed to achieve indoor localization with the received signal strength(RSS)***,most of the research depends on intensive beacon *** estimation,which depends entirely on one beacon,is more suitable for sample position estimation in large automated *** complexity of the life science automation laboratory environment brings challenges to the traditional path loss model(PLm),which is a widely used radio wave propagation model-based proximity estimation *** this paper,BLE sensing devices for sample position estimation are *** BLE beacon-based proximity estimation is discussed in the framework of machine learning,in which the support vector regression(SVR)is utilized to model the nonlinear relationship between the RSS data and distance,and the Kalman filter is utilized to decrease the RSS data *** experimental results over different environments indicate that the SVR outperforms the PLm significantly,and provides 1 m absolute errors for more than 95%of the testing *** Kalman filter brings benefits to stable distance *** from proximity-based sample position estimation,the proposed framework turned out to be effective in position estimation between parallel workbenches and position estimation on an automated workstation.
