Artificial intelligence for closed-loop ventilation therapy with hemodynamic control using the open lung concept

Retrograde inspection vs standard forward view for the detection of colorectal adenomas during colonoscopy: A back-to-back randomized clinical trial

TRAIL-induced apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells is augmented by targeted therapies

AIM:To analyze the effect of chemotherapeutic drugs and specific kinase inhibitors,in combination with the death receptor ligand tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis inducing ligand(TRAIL),on overcoming TRAIL resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma(hCC)and to study the efficacy of agonistic TRAIL antibodies,as well as the commitment of antiapoptotic BCL-2 proteins, in TRAIL-induced apoptosis. We designed boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond microelectrode arrays（BNCD-MEAs） with 16 channels for the bioanalysis of multicellular samples, which could be readily adapted for a highly sensitive detection of h2 O2[2_TD$IF]released from stimulated cells by ascorbic acid（AA）. Our observations demonstrated that the as-prepared diamond microelectrode arrays could be utilized to distinguish cancer cells from normal cells, and the amperometric study showed the considerable differences in the currents, indicating that the related hep G2 cancer cells could release more h2 O2 than that of L02 normal cells. This supports the possibility to use diamond-based MEAs for rapid cancer cell detection in future clinic applications.

Artificial Intelligence in Steam Cracking Modeling: A Deep Learning Algorithm for Detailed Effluent Prediction

Chemical processes can bene t tremendously from fast and accurate ef uent composition prediction for plant design, control, and optimization. The Industry 4.0 revolution claims that by introducing machine learning into these elds, substantial economic and environmental gains can be achieved. The bottleneck for high-frequency optimization and process control is often the time necessary to perform the required detailed analyses of, for example, feed and product. To resolve these issues, a framework of four deep learning arti cial neural networks (DL ANNs) has been developed for the largest chemicals production process steam cracking. The proposed methodology allows both a detailed characterization of a naphtha feedstock and a detailed composition of the steam cracker ef uent to be determined, based on a limited number of commercial naphtha indices and rapidly accessible process characteristics. The detailed char- acterization of a naphtha is predicted from three points on the boiling curve and paraf ns, iso-paraf ns, ole ns, naphthenes, and aronatics (PIONA) characterization. If unavailable, the boiling points are also estimated. Even with estimated boiling points, the developed DL ANN outperforms several established methods such as maximization of Shannon entropy and traditional ANNs. For feedstock reconstruction, a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.3 wt% is achieved on the test set, while the MAE of the ef uent predic- tion is 0.1 wt%. When combining all networks using the output of the previous as input to the next the ef uent MAE increases to 0.19 wt%. In addition to the high accuracy of the networks, a major bene t is the negligible computational cost required to obtain the predictions. On a standard Intel i7 processor, predictions are made in the order of milliseconds. Commercial software such as COILSIM1D performs slightly better in terms of accuracy, but the required central processing unit time per reaction is in the order of seconds. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDA) is one of the major causes for cancer death worldwide. Treatment of metastatic disease remains challenging as only certain patients benefit from advances made with the intensified chemotherapy regimen folinic acid, irinotecan and oxaliplatin, the epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor erlotinib or the recently FDA-approved nab-paclitaxel. Up to date, no established approach for prediction of treatment response or specific treatment allocation exists. Translational research was able to identify a number of potential biomarkers that might help to improve the dismal prognosis of PDA by facilitating upfront treatment allocation. This topic highlight is focused on current evidence on potential biomarkers for tumor biology, prognosis and prediction of treatment efficacy.

The importance of ＂precise＂ test values and their verification is growing in every industry throughout the world, lnterlaboratory studies constitute a basis for this. The high expenses and mathematical work required to carry out proper interlaboratory studies are frequently considered reasons not to conduct such studies. This makes it all the more important to emphasize the various advantages of an accurate interlaboratory study. In addition to providing precision data for the test method, it is also possible to carry out laboratory evaluations, which is important for accredited test laboratories. Furthermore, existing test methods can be optimized, refer- ence material can be obtained, and test methods can be compared. Optimized test instructions can also be generated using the findings and precision data. These advantages will be described in detail by means of examples below.
