Control of chemical composition and incorporation of multiple metallic elements into a single metal nanoparticle(NP)in an alloyed or a phase-segregated state hold potential scientific merit;however,developing libraries of such structures using effective strategies is challenging owing to the thermodynamic immiscibility of repelling constituent metallic elements.Herein,we present a one-pot interfacial plasma-discharge-driven(IP-D)synthesis strategy for fabricating stable high-entropy-alloy(HEA)NPs exhibiting ultrasmall size on a porous support surface.Accordingly,an electric field was applied for 120 s to enhance the incorporation of multiple metallic elements(i.e.,CuAgFe,CuAgNi,and CuAgNiFe)into ally HEA-NPs.Further,NPs were attached to a porous magnesium oxide surface via rapid cooling.With solar light as the sole energy input,the CuAgNiFe catalyst was investigated as a reusable and sustainable material exhibiting excellent catalytic performance(100%conversion and 99% selectivity within1 min for a hydrogenation reaction)and consistent activity even after 20 cycles for a reduction reaction,considerably outperforming the majority of the conventional photocatalysts.Thus,the proposed strategy establishes a novel method for designing and synthesizing highly efficient and stable catalysts for the convertion of nitroarenes to anilines via chemical reduction.

Childhood obesity represents a complex disease with a well-known cardiometabolic burden including fatty liver,type 2 diabetes,metabolic syndrome,and cardiovascular disease.From a pathogenic point of view,insulin resistance(IR)represents the key factor underlying the spectrum of these obesity consequences.As observed in adults,recent data supported the occurrence of microalbuminuria(MA)as marker of early kidney dysfunction and its potential link with cardiometabolic factors also in children with obesity.In fact,a well-documented pathophysiological hypothesis both in adults and children supported an intimate correlation with the major feature of obesity such as IR through the influence of insulin on renal hemodynamics.Based on the clinical and prognostic relevance of this relationship in daily practice(including an increased risk of chronic kidney disease development overtime),more scientific attention needs to be paid to the evaluation of early kidney damage in children with obesity.In this paper,we attempt to address three debated questions regarding the intriguing liaison between IR and MA in children with obesity:(1)What is the prevalence of pediatric MA?(2)What is the state of art of MA in children with obesity?and(3)Is there a link between IR and MA in children with obesity?

Plot investigation on rill flow resistance due to path tortuosity

The path tortuosity t is an indicator of rill morphology accounting for the deviation of the thalweg from a straight alignment.The effect of t on flow resistance has been little investigated for rills.This paper reports the results of a plot investigation aimed to establish the suitable accuracy of the rill thalweg measurement to determine the tortuosity parameter and to test the reliability of a theoretical flow resistance law.Four rills were incised in clay soil(CS)and clay-loam soil(LS)and shaped by a clear flow discharge.The three-dimensional Digital Terrain Models were created by the Structure from Motion technique.For rills on LS,an approximate thalweg was tracked by photo-interpretation,and a specific calculation routine was applied to identify the cross sections with a constant spacing d.The actual rill thalweg was obtained as the line joining the lowest points of these cross-sections.Among the different tested d values,d=0.075 m was chosen to determine t.For both CS and LS,the Darcy-Weisbach friction factorffeatured a non-monotonic relation with t,which was explained as the result of three additive components due to bed roughness,sediment transport,and localized energy losses due to curves.The effect of the former two components onff contrasts that of the third,resulting in a linearly decreasing f-t relationship and constant flow velocity for the three lowest tortuosity values,and an increased friction factor and reduced flow velocity for the highest tortuosity value.The flow resistance law was positively tested,and the predicted friction factor was dependent on t.

To the editor:Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome(FPIES)is a non-immunoglobulin E-mediated food allergy that is characterized by repetitive vomiting within 1-4 h of eating the trigger food and may be associated with lethargy,pallor,and diarrhea.The diagnosis is in most cases anamnestic.1 In a few cases,it is necessary to perform the oral food challenge(OFC).

Pilot study to determine improvements in subjective penile morphology and personal relationships following a Nesbit plication procedure for men with congenital penile curvature

Aim： To determine whether the surgical straightening of congenital penile curvature can improve intromission comfort, penile features, personal relationships and psychogenic erectile dysfunction （ED）. Methods： Fifty-four patients （mean age 24 years, range 20-31 years） whose congenital penile deviation due to physiological curvature was ≥ 25 degrees, as measured on a graph, and who were experiencing penetration discomfort were assessed specifically for the present study. Of these, 14 patients suffered from psychogenic ED. The assessment included a case history, an objective examination, a pharmacologically-induced erection with prostaglandin E1 10-20 g, a graph taken during erection, a basal and dynamic Duplex ultrasonograph, penile length measurement, nocturnal penile tumescence recording, hormonal profiles and a psychological interview to evaluate the quality of their personal relationships according to Hinde＇s parameters （contents, number, features, frequency, ability to perceive limits of mutuality, subjective perception of the other person[s], and reliability）. All patients underwent the Nesbit procedure. The initial assessment was repeated at 3 and 12 months after surgery. Data analyses were carried out using the z test. Results： Subjective judgement of cosmetic penile features and vaginal intromission comfort improved significantly after surgery whereas the quality of personal relationships and ED did not. Conclusion： The surgical straightening of congenital penile curvature improved intromission comfort and penile features, but it failed to improve interpersonal relationships or psychogenic ED.

Single-atom metal-incorporated carbon nanomaterials(CMs)have shown great potential towards broad catalytic applications.In this work,we show that N-doped porous CMs embedded with redox-able Zn atoms exhibit superior capacitive performance.High Zn(~2.72 at.%)/N(~12.51 at.%)doping were realized by incorporating Zn2+and benzamide into the condensation and carbonization of formamide and subsequent annealing at 900℃.The Zn and N species are mutually benefited during the formation of ZnN4 motif.The as-obtained Zn1NC material affords a very large capacitance of 621 F·g^(−1)(at 0.1 A·g^(−1)),superior rate capability(~65%retention at 100 A·g^(−1)),and excellent cycling stability(0.00044%per cycle at 10 A·g^(−1)).These merits are attributed to the high Zn/N loading,atomic Zn-boosted pseudocapacitive behavior,large specific surface area(~1,085 m^(2)·g^(−1)),and rich pore hierarchy,thus ensuring both large pseudo-capacitance(e.g.,~37.9%at 10 mV·s^(−1))and double-layer capacitance.Besides of establishing a new type of high Zn/N-loading carbon materials,our work uncovers the capacitive roles of atomically dispersed metals in CMs.

A flexible multi-body model of a surface miner for analyzing the interaction between rock-cutting forces and chassis vibrations

The discontinuous nature of rock cutting can easily cause unwanted vibrations in the structure of a surface miner.If these vibrations are not properly addressed,the related stress cycles can gradually damage the chassis resulting in fatigue failures.These events can seriously undermine the safety of operators and digging operations may be stopped for days,with an obvious economic impact.This work presents an analysis of the dynamics of a surface miner,focusing on the interaction between cutting machine dynamics and cutting forces,which is a new approach for this type of machine.For this purpose,the authors developed a numerical model of the cutting process made up of(1)a multi-body model of the cutting machine,which takes into account the chassis's flexibility;(2)a model of the rotating cutting head;and(3)a model of the interaction between the cutting head and rock,based on Shao's model.The model was compared with experimental results and then used to investigate the effects of cutting speed and cutting depth on the machine dynamics.

Ion Beam Figuring System for Synchrotron X-Ray Mirrors Achieving Sub-0.2-µrad and Sub-0.5-nm Root Mean Square

Optics with high-precision height and slope are increasingly desired in numerous industrial fields.For instance,Kirkpatrick-Baez(KB)mirrors play an important role in synchrotron X-ray applications.A KB system is composed of two aspherical,grazing-incidence mirrors used to focus an X-ray beam.The fabrication of KB mirrors is challenging due to the aspherical departure of the mirror surfaces from base geometries and the high-quality requirements for slope and height residuals.In this paper,we present the process of manufacturing an elliptical cylinder KB mirror using our in-house-developed ion beam figuring(IBF)and metrology technologies.First,the key aspects of figuring and finishing processes with IBF are illustrated in detail.The effect of positioning error on the convergence of the residual slope error is highlighted and compensated.Finally,inspection and cross-validation using different metrology instruments are performed and used as the final validation of the mirror.Results confirm that relative to the requested off-axis ellipse,the mirror has achieved 0.15-μrad root mean square(RMS)and 0.36-nm RMS residual slope and height errors,respectively,while maintaining the initial 0.3-nm RMS microroughness.
