The early development of face processing——What makes faces special?

In the present article we review behavioral and neurophysiological studies on face processing in adults and in early development. From the existing empirical and theoretical literature we derive three aspects that distinguish face processing from the processing of other visual object categories. Each of these aspects is discussed from a developmental perspective. First, faces are recognized and represented at the individual level rather than at the basic level. Second, humans typically acquire extensive expertise in individuating faces from early on in development. And third, more than other objects, faces are processed holistically. There is a quantitative difference in the amount of visual experience for faces and other object categories in that the amount of expertise typically acquired for faces is greater than that for other object categories. In addition, we discuss possible qualitative differences in experience for faces and objects. For instance, there is evidence for a sensitive period in infancy for building up a holistic face representation and for perceptual narrowing for faces of one＇s own species and race. We conclude our literature review with questions for future research, for instance, regarding the exact relationship between behavioral and neuronal markers of face processing across development.

Plant receptors constitute a large protein family that regulates various aspects of development and responses to external *** characterization of this protein family and the identification of their ligands remain major challenges in plant ***,we identified plasma membrane-intrinsic sucrose-induced receptor kinase 1(SIRK1)and Qian Shou kinase 1(QSK1)as receptor/co-receptor pair involved in the regulation of aquaporins in response to osmotic conditions induced by *** this study,we identified a member of the elicitor peptide(PEP)family,namely PEP7,as the specific ligand of th receptor kinase ***7 binds to the extracellular domain of SIRK1 with a binding constant of 1.44±0.79μM and is secreted to the apoplasm specifically in response to sucrose *** of a signaling complex involving SIRK1,QSK1,and aquaporins as substrates is mediated by alterations in the external sucrose concentration or by PEP7 ***,the presence of PEP7 induces the phosphorylation of aquaporins in vivo and enhances water influx into *** water influx,in turn,led to delayed lateral root development in the pep7 *** loss-of-function mutant of SIRK1 is not responsive to external PEP7 treatment regarding kinase activity,aquaporin phosphorylation,water influx activity,and lateral root *** together,our data indicate that the PEP7/SIRK1/QSK1 complex represents a crucial perception and response module that mediates sucrose-controlled water flux in plants and lateral root development.

A new liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method for the determination of carbamazepine,clonazepam,alprazolam,estazolam and phenytoin in human plasma has been developed by using diazepam as an internal *** separation was performed on a Zorbax SB-C18 column(30 mm × 2.1 mm,3.5 ?m) with a mobile phase consisting of methanol and aqueous 25 mM ammonium acetate using gradient elution.A diethyl ether extraction method was used for the extraction of five anti-epilepsy *** final extract was injected for analysis by LC-MS/*** method was validated within the concentration range of 50-5000 ng mL-1 for five anti-epilepsy *** precision of the assay(RSD%) was less than 10% at all concentration levels within the tested *** method recoveries for all samples were more than 90%.The results indicate that the method is specific,sensitive and accurate,and suitable to study the pharmacokinetics,to adjust the dosage for individual administration,and to monitor the drug-concentration and drug abuse of the five anti-epilepsy drugs.

New classes of solvable scalar and vector potentials for the Dirac equation are obtained, together with the associated exact Dirac spinors. The method of derivation is based on an a priori constraint between the solutions, leading to an interrelation between the scalar and vector potential in the form ofa Riccati equation. The present note generalizes a series of former articles.

Objective：To assess the evidence of the use and efficacy for complementary and alternative medicine（CAM） in inflammatory bowel disease（IBD）. Methods：A systematic literature search in MEDLINE was performed for randomized controlled trials（RCTs） in Crohn＇s disease and ulcerative ***,a selective literature search for health services research studies on the use of CAM in patients with IBD was ***：Health services research studies showed a high use of CAM in adult and pediatric patients with IBD *** contrast to the high use among IBD patients,there was a lack of high-quality data for many of the used CAM *** most of the studies showed positive results,the methodological quality of most studies was rather low;therefore,the results had to be interpreted with *** there were many studies for probiotics and fish oil,RCTs for the highly used method homeopathy, for most herbal products,and for traditional Chinese medicine methods apart from acupuncture RCTs were completely ***：The lack of high-quality studies might be the consequence of the problems associated with the funding of clinical trials involving ***,having the high user rates in mind,high-quality studies assessing efficacy and safety of those methods are urgently ***,there is a need for better representation of CAM in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

The present paper reviews advances in the study of two major intercontinental disjunct biogeographic patterns:(i) between Eurasian and western North American deserts with the Mediterranean climate(the Madrean-Tethyan disjunctions);and(ii) between the temperate regions of North and South America(the amphitropical disjunctions).Both disjunct patterns have multiple times of *** amphitropical disjunctions have largely resulted from long-distance dispersal,primarily from the Miocene to the Holocene,with available data indicating that most lineages dispersed from North to South *** of recent studies on the Mediterranean disjuncts between the deserts of Eurasia and western North America support the multiple modes of origin and are mostly consistent with hypotheses of long-distance dispersal and the North Atlantic ***’s Madrean-Tethyan hypothesis,which implies vicariance between the two regions in the early Tertiary,has been favored by a few *** Beringian migration corridor for semiarid taxa is also supported in some cases.

The effect of nanoparticle concentration on zeta-potential measurement results at dilute concentrations was evaluated. The values of the zeta-potential for four different types of nanoparticles, Ludox （silica）, multi-walled carbon nanotubes （bamboo-shaped and hollow nanotubes） and gold, at various concentrations, were obtained using a laser Doppler electrophoresis instrument. The size of the nanoparticles on dilution was measured using dynamic light scattering （DLS）. The results show that there is a concentration range within which the zeta-potential, and particle size, are not affected by nanoparticle concentration. The lower concentration limit for the system to produce consistent results was dependent on the nature of the sample under study and ranged between 10-2 and 10-4 wt%. Below this concentration, there was an apparent shift in zeta-potential values to less negative values, which was accompanied by an increase in the particle size. The shift in zeta-potential was attributed to an increase in contribution of the signal from extraneous particulate matter. The increase in particle size was attributed to the nature of the homodyne optical configuration of the instrument. The aim of this study was to elucidate the range in nanoparticle concentration that allows for accurate and reliable measurement of the zeta-potential and DLS data.
