The dual role of microglia in ischemic stroke and its modulation via extracellular vesicles and stem cells

Stem cell-based therapies and extracellular vesicle(EV)treatment have demonstrated significant potential for neuroprotection against ischemic *** the neuroprotective mechanisms are not yet fully under-stood,targeting microglia is central to promoting *** are the resident immune cells of the central nervous *** cells are crucial in the pathogenesis of ischemic *** respond rapidly to the site of injury by releasing pro-inflammatory cytokines,phagocytizing dead cells and debris,and recruiting peripheral immune cells to the ischemic *** these responses are essential for clearing damage and initiating tissue repair,excessive or prolonged microglial activation can exacerbate brain injury,leading to secondary neuroinflammation and ***,microglia exhibit a dynamic range of activation states with the so-called M1 pro-inflammatory and M2 anti-inflammatory phenotypes,representing the two ends of the *** delivery of both EVs and stem cells modulates microglial activation,suppressing pro-inflammatory genes,influencing the expression of transcription factors,and altering receptor expression,ultimately contributing to *** findings underscore the importance of understanding the complex and dynamic role of microglia in the development of effective neuroprotective strategies to reduce the effects of ischemic *** this review,we examine the current state of knowledge regarding the role of microglia in ischemic stroke,including their molecular and cellular mechanisms,activation states,and interactions with other *** also discuss the multifaceted contributions of microglia to stem cell-and EV-based neuroprotection during an ischemic stroke to provide a comprehensive understanding of microglial functions and their potential implications in stroke therapies.

BACKGROUND Wound healing is a complicated process that can be heavily influenced by patient comorbidities,in some cases leading to a chronic non-healing *** presented in the medical literature supporting the clinical use of autologous platelet-rich plasma(PRP)in treatment of such wounds is becoming increasingly *** involved include complex interactions between the patient’s thrombocytes,cytokines,and growth *** SUMMARY We present a case of a 72-year-old male patient with a long-standing chronic wound and multiple *** the course of more than 7 months,the patient was unsuccessfully treated with all routinely used measures,including different dressing *** antibiotic regimens were administered for wound infection,with repeated evaluation of microbiological swab ***,after three PRP applications,the wound showed clinical improvement with complete restitution of the epithelial layer of the *** PRP treatment may be beneficial to reduce healing time in chronic wounds.

With ultrafast laser systems reaching presently 10 PW peak power or operating at high repetition rates,research towards ensuring the long-term,trouble-free performance of all laser-exposed optical components is *** work is focused on providing insight into the optical material behavior at fluences below the standardized laser-induced damage threshold(LIDT)value by implementing a simultaneous dual analysis of surface emitted particles using a Langmuir probe(LP)and the target current(TC).HfO_(2) and ZrO_(2) thin films deposited on fused silica substrates by pulsed laser deposition at various O_(2) pressures for defect and stoichiometry control were irradiated by Gaussian,ultrashort laser pulses(800 nm,10 Hz,70 fs)in a wide range of *** TC and LP collected signals were in good agreement with the existing theoretical description of laser–matter interaction at an ultrashort time *** approach for an in situ LIDT monitoring system provides measurable signals for below-threshold irradiation conditions that indicate the endurance limit of the optical surfaces in the single-shot energy scanning *** LIDT value extracted from the LP-TC system is in line with the multipulse statistical analysis done with ISO 21254-2:2011(E).The implementation of the LP and TC as on-shot diagnostic tools for optical components will have a significant impact on the reliability of next-generation ultrafast and high-power laser systems.

The Influence of Biomass Cokes on the Microstructure and Thermal Shock Resistance of MgO-C Refractories

In this study,biomass cokes from sunflower seed hull(SFSH)and wood pellets(WP)were added to a MgO-C batch(3 mass%C)to replace 1.1 mass%of *** hardening and carbonizing the samples,the influence of the biomass cokes on the microstructure and thermal shock resistance was *** replacement of flaky graphite by carbonized WP and SFSH reduced the bulk density and increased the apparent porosity after pressing and carbonization,but the degree was only *** was confirmed by SEM investigations,where the biomass-coke containing samples exhibited a microstructure with a higher amount of pores between the fine MgO *** thermal shock resistance of the porous wood pellet coke containing MgO-C is at the same level as the reference sample but not superior to it.

Single-emitter super-resolved imaging of radiative decay rate enhancement in dielectric gap nanoantennas

High refractive index dielectric nanoantennas strongly modify the decay rate via the Purcell effect through the design of radiative *** to their dielectric nature,the field is mainly confined inside the nanostructure and in the gap,which is hard to probe with scanning probe *** we use single-molecule fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy(smFLIM)to map the decay rate enhancement in dielectric GaP nanoantenna dimers with a median localization precision of 14 *** measure,in the gap of the nanoantenna,decay rates that are almost 30 times larger than on a glass *** comparing experimental results with numerical simulations we show that this large enhancement is essentially radiative,contrary to the case of plasmonic nanoantennas,and therefore has great potential for applications such as quantum optics and biosensing.
