Correlation of IL-8 with induction, progression and metastatic potential of colorectal cancer

AIM： To investigate the expression profile of IL-8 in inflammatory and malignant colorectal diseases to evaluate its potential role in the regulation of colorectal cancer （CRC） and the development of colorectal liver metastases （CRLM）.METHODS： IL-8 expression was assessed by quantitative real-time PCR （Q-RT-PCR） and the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） in resected specimens from patients with ulcerative colitis （UC, n = 6） colorectal adenomas （CRA, n = 8）, different stages of colorectal cancer （n = 48） as well as synchronous and metachronous CRLM along with their corresponding primary colorectal tumors （n = 16）.ResULTS： IL-8 mRNA and protein expression was significantly up-regulated in all pathological colorectal entities investigated compared with the corresponding neighboring tissues. However, in the CRC specimens IL-8 revealed a significantly more pronounced overexpression in relation to the CRA and UC tissues with an average 30-fold IL-8 protein up-regulation in the CRC specimens in comparison to the CRA tissues. Moreover, [L-8 expression revealed a close correlation with tumor grading. Most interestingly, IL-8 up-regulation was most enhanced in synchronous and metachronous CRLM, if compared with the corresponding primary CRC tissues. Herein, an up to 80-fold IL-8 overexpression in individual metachronous metastases compared to normal tumor neighbor tissues was found.CONCLUSION： Our results strongly suggest an association between IL-8 expression, induction and progression of colorectal carcinoma and the development of colorectal liver metastases.

Synthesis, structural and spectroscopic studies on GdBO_3:Yb^(3+)/Tb^(3+)@SiO_2 core-shell nanostructures

The presented study concerned up-converting core/shell type nanomaterials based on lanthanide（Ⅲ） ions, Ln（Ⅲ）, doped orthoborates. The system studied composed of the GdBO3 doped with Yb^3＋/Tb^3＋ luminescent core ensured an effective cooperative sensitization up-conversion, resulting in a bright green luminescence. The silica coating process was performed by a modified St？ber method, which resulted in the formation of core-shell nanostructures, making them suitable for bioapplications. The nanophosphors and nanocomposites were obtained by various methods, such as co-precipitation in the presence of Triton X-100 and micelle synthesis with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid（EDTA） as organic modifiers/surfactants. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized with the use of powder X-ray diffraction（XRD）, infrared light absorption with Fourier transform FT-IR spectra, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, up-conversion emission spectra under IR light, as well as excitation spectra, emission spectra and fluorescence lifetimes under UV light, and their photophysical properties were compared.

High-throughput phenotyping enables the efficient collection of plant trait data at *** example involves using imaging systems over key phases of a crop growing *** the resulting images provide rich data for statistical analyses of plant phenotypes,image processing for trait extraction is required as a *** methods for trait extraction are mainly based on supervised learning with human labeled data or semisupervised learning with a mixture of human labeled data and unsupervised ***,preparing a sufficiently large training data is both time and *** describe a self-supervised pipeline(KAT4IA)that uses K-means clustering on greenhouse images to construct training data for extracting and analyzing plant traits from an image-based field phenotyping *** KAT4IA pipeline includes these main steps:self-supervised training set construction,plant segmentation from images of field-grown plants,automatic separation of target plants,calculation of plant traits,and functional curve fitting of the extracted *** deal with the challenge of separating target plants from noisy backgrounds in field images,we describe a novel approach using row-cuts and column-cuts on images segmented by transform domain neural network learning,which utilizes plant pixels identified from greenhouse images to train a segmentation model for field *** approach is efficient and does not require human *** results show that KAT4IA is able to accurately extract plant pixels and estimate plant heights.

The Effects of Offset Loading Versus Traditional Loading in the Bench Press Exercise on Muscle Thickness and Strength in Trained Males

Purpose This study compared the effects of offset loading(OSL)versus traditional loading(TDL)in the bench press exercise on pectoral muscle thickness and bench press strength over a 4-week ***:Twenty male participants aged 18-45 years with at least 5 years of bench press experience and a bench press one-repetition maximum equal to or greater than their body mass were randomly assigned to OSL and TDL *** and after the 4-week mesocycle,pectoral muscle thickness was assessed via ultrasonography and muscle strength was assessed by bench press one-repetition *** were explored with two-way mixed ANOVA and non-clinical magnitude-based ***:No group-by-time interaction was detected for any variable(P>0.05).When compared to small magnitudes,the pectoralis major muscle thickness changes were likely greater in OSL compared to TDL for the dominant(es=0.70;87%likely greater)and nondominant pectoralis(es=0.77;91%likely greater)as well as the sum of both pectorals(es=0.80;92%likely greater).Similarly,a likely greater effect for absolute(es=0.57;82%likely)and relative(es=0.67;85%likely)bench press strength was seen with ***:Magnitude-based inferences interpreted here support the notion that OSL may be an advantageous training modality to enhance pectoral muscle thickness and bench press strength.

介绍了可重构机床对通信系统的要求,提出了一种基于宽带电力线通信(PLC,Power Line Communication)技术的新型通信系统.通过对机床电力线的信道特性和噪声频谱的分析与测量,选定了通信系统的载波频率和带宽等参数.为了对抗电力线信道的多径效应,提高频谱利用率,实现可靠高效的数据传输,采用正交频分复用技术(OFDM,OrthogonalFrequency Division Multiplex)作为调制解调方式.开发了PLC调制解调器,定义了物理层帧结构.最后以机床主轴伺服系统为例对该通信系统进行了实验验证.实验结果表明,该系统实现了有效数据传输率10 Mbit/s,误比特率(ber,Bit Error Rate)小于10-8的高效数据传输.

Managing plant health is a great challenge formodern food production and is further complicated by thelack of common ground between the many disciplinesinvolved in disease control. Here we present the concept ofrhizosphere immunity, in which plant health is consideredas an ecosystem level property emerging from networks ofinteractions between plants, microbiota and the surround-ing soil matrix. These interactions can potentially extendthe innate plant immune system to a point where therhizosphere immunity can fulfil all four core functions ofafull immune system: pathogen prevention, recognition,response and homeostasis. We suggest that consideringplant health from a meta-organism perspective will help indeveloping multidisciplinary pathogen management stra-tegies that focus on steering the whole plant-microbe-soilnetworks instead of individual components. This might beachieved by bringing together the latest discoveries inphytopathology, microbiome research, soil science andagronomy to pave the way toward more sustainable andproductive agriculture.
