A novel low-cost visual ear tag based identification system for precision beef cattle livestock farming

The precision livestock farming(PLF)has the objective to maximize each animal's performance while reducing the environmental impact and maintaining the quality and safety of meat *** the PLF techniques,the personalised management of each individual animal based on sensors systems,represents a viable *** is worth noting that the implementation of an effective PLF approach can be still expensive,especially for small and medium-sized farms;for this reason,to guarantee the sustainability of a customized livestock management system and encourage its use,plug and play and cost-effective systems are *** this context,we present a novel low-cost method for identifying beef cattle and recognizing their basic activities by a single surveillance *** leveraging the current state-of-the-art methods for real-time object detection,(i.e.,YOLOv3)cattle's face areas,we propose a novel mechanism able to detect the ear tag as well as the water ingestion state when the cattle is close to the *** cow IDs are read by an Optical Character Recognition(OCR)algorithm for which,an ad hoc error correction algorithm is here presented to avoid numbers misreading and correctly match the IDs to only actually present *** to the detection of the tag position,the OCR algorithm can be applied only to a specific region of interest reducing the computational cost and the time *** times for the areas are outputted as cattle activity recognition *** results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method,showing a mAP@0.50 of 89%.

This case report describes a woman with spontaneous rectal perforation from decidualized endometriosis in pregnancy.A 37-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital at 30 wk of pregnancy with symptoms suggestive of pyelonephritis,which persisted until 33 wk of gestation when delivery of a premature male baby was performed through a cesarean section. On determining the weight of edges in map-representing graphs-applications of heuristic methods in planning escape routes

In the paper we discuss and compare two commonly used methods of finding the shortest paths in networks,namely Dijkstra’s and A**** compare their effectiveness in terms of traversing road network in circumstances that require swift decision making in the event of dynamically changing road conditions on the basis of studies conducted for evacuation *** build a proper model of such a network,a method of appropriate edge-weighting is introduced,based on empirical data collected by other ***,we use the basics of the theory of quasimetric spaces to introduce a heuristic to such graphs,which is easy to calculate *** heuristic we obtain is both admissible and consistent,which allows us to use it efficiently in A*search *** developed application can be used in studies into evacuation from hazardous *** this case,optimum calculative efficiency is achievable with a simultaneous reduction of calculation time(when compared to Dijkstra’s algorithm).Our application can be applied during the first stage,i.e.,prior to the occurrence of a disaster,since this is an appropriate time for preparation by planning,drilling,early warning,and designating the rescue services that are to participate in the following stages.

Usefulness of LED lightings in cereal breeding on example of wheat,barley and oat seedlings

The LED lightings in horticulture are becoming prevalent,due to their physical properties allowing reduction of electricity consumption and on modulation of light spectrum and *** present,LED lightings are not widely used by cereal breeding companies despite the fact that use of greenhouses is very *** is why,the present experiment was run to show the evidence of LED lightings usefulness in a cereal crops breeding *** wheat(Triticum aestivum,L.),spring barley(Hordeum vulgare,L.)and oat(Avena sativa,L.),one cultivar of each species,were used for the 9 week trial conducted in a greenhouse with strictly controlled temperature(22℃)and humidity(80%).As a light source,4 LED illuminators along with a high-pressure sodium and xenon lamps and a natural sunlight in non-shadowed area of the same greenhouse were *** illuminators were characterized by relatively high ratio of blue/red radiation(0.6-1.3)to force the stem shortening,since cereal seedlings with such a growth habit are preferred in greenhouse cultivation of *** was evidenced,that LED illuminators provided light suitable for cereals growth in a greenhouse,however each species had slightly different optimal light *** wheat and barley the best impact on stem shortening and also on time to heading had a LED illuminator with high multi wave-blue radiation whereas on the leaves width the illuminator with lowest blue/red *** oat seedlings a light source with highest light intensity and highest blue/red ratio seemed to be the most *** much differences in seedlings growth and time to heading suggested that there is a chance for construction of one universal type of LED illuminator designed for greenhouse stages of cereal crops breeding.

Polygynous males can change their mating tactics across their lifetime, but information is scarce on the flexibility of this trait within a given season and the relative costs and benefits of using different tactics. Here, we monitored individually marked male reindeer Rangifer tarandus and classified their mating tactics as harem-defense, sneaking, or mixed. The costs of the male reproductive effort were assessed using both direct （i.e. percentage of body mass lost） and indirect measures （i.e. activity patterns such as feeding, standing, and walking）, while mating group size and reproductive success were recorded as mating ef- fort benefits. Our results show that reindeer males may switch between the harem-defense and sneaking tactics throughout the same breeding season, providing further support to the notion that reproductive tactics are flexible in ungulates. The costs and benefits of male mating effort vary according to the mating tactic, reaching the highest values in harem-holders and the lowest values in sneaking males. Moreover, males who switched between the sneaking tactic and the harem-defence tactic tended to achieve higher mating success than males who consistently used the least costly tactic. Indeed, all harem-holders successfully sired offspring, whereas only two out of three mixed-tactic males sired one calf, and sneaking males did not sire any calves. In conclusion, our results show that reindeer males can modulate their mating efforts during the same breeding season by switching between the most costly harem-defense tactic and the least costly sneaking tactic, suggesting individual solutions to the balance between reproductive effort and mating opportunities [Current Zoology 61 （5）： 802-810, 2015].

基于我国2007—2019年30个省级区域的面板数据,建立空间计量模型分析科技创新投入和教育水平对于区域经济增长的影响。结果表明:东南沿海地区发展较好,并且表现为经济发达省份被其他经济发达的省份包围的分布态势;西部地区大多为经济欠发达省份,并且周围的省份经济发展也较差。通过分析得出科技创新投入对区域经济增长存在显著的正向溢出效应,但是教育水平对区域经济增长的溢出效应不显著。在中国经济进入高质量发展阶段,需要加强省份间经济合作,明确政府自身定位,提高科技创新投入水平和科技创新成果转化能力,推进教育水平综合提升。

Synchronous isolated splenic metastasis from colon carcinoma and concomitant splenic abscess:A case report and review of the literature

This study aimed to describe a case in which an isolated splenic metastasis was synchronous with the colonic primary and a concomitant splenic abscess was associated. A wide review of the literature was also performed. A 54-year-old woman with abdominal pain and fever was admitted to our department. Abdominal CT revealed two low-density areas in the spleen and wall-thickening of the left colonic flexure,which was indistinguishable from the spleen parenchyma. The patient underwent emergency celiotomy,with the presumptive diagnosis of obstructing colon carcinoma of the splenic flexure,and concomitant splenic abscess. Subtotal colectomy and splenectomy were performed. Pathological findings were consistent with mucinous colonic carcinoma,synchronous isolated splenic metastasis and concomitant splenic abscess. This paper is also a review of the existing literature on the association between colorectal cancer and splenic metastasis. Only 41 cases of isolated splenic metastasis from colon carcinoma have been reported in the literature. This report is the third described case of synchronous isolated splenic metastasis from colon carcinoma. Only one case with concomitant splenic abscess has been previously reported. When obstructing left-sided colorectal cancer is suspected,careful CT examination can allow early diagnosis of splenic involvement by the tumor. The literature review suggests that there might be a significant improvement in survival following splenectomy for a metachronous isolated splenic metastasis from colon carcinoma. Prognosis for synchronous splenic metastasis seems to be related to the advanced stage of the disease. Nevertheless,no definitive conclusions can be drawn because of the small number of cases.

Intratumoral sampling variability in hepatocellular carcinoma: A case report

The differential diagnosis between hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） and regenerative liver nodules and other primary liver tumors may be very difficult, particularly when performed on liver biopsies. Difficulties in histological typing may be often minimized by immunohistochemistry. Among the numerous markers proposed, CK18, Hep Par1 and glypican 3 （GPC3） are considered the most useful in HCC diagnosis. Here we report a case of HCC in a 72-year-old male with HBV- related chronic liver disease, characterized by a marked morphological and immunohistochemical intratumoral variability. In this case, tumor grading ranged from areas extremely well differentiated, similar to regenerative nodule, to undifferentiated regions, with large atypical multinucleated cells. While almost all sub nodules were immunostained by Hep Par 1, immunoreactivity for glypican 3 and for Ckl8 was patchy, with negative tumor region adjacent to the highly immunoreactive areas. Our case stresses the relevance of sampling variability in the diagnosis of HCC, and indicates that caution should be taken in grading an HCC and in the interpretation of immunohistochemical stains when only small core biopsies from liver nodules are available.
