The Altaids is one of the largest accretionary collages in the world,and the tectonic styles of the accretionary processes have been interpreted in several ways,including as an amalgamation of multiple terranes,as a result of oroclinal bending of a long,single arc,or as a Caledonian continental *** on recent tectonostratigraphic analyses together with paleomagnetic data,the tectonic styles of the Neoproterozoic to Paleozoic accretionary processes of the Altaids are *** Western Altaids is the main focus of the study,which was mainly composed of several independent linear components such as arcs and microcontinents with Proterozoic basement and cover *** kinds of arcs existed in the Paleo-Asian Ocean,including a complicated type of arc(Alaskan-type),which is a combination of the Japan-and Mariana-type intra-oceanic arcs and the Cordillera-type continental *** linear components rotated and collided with each other with multiple subduction polarities,which could have been an important result of multiple linear element amalgamation,and which has contributed greatly to the architecture of the Eurasian continent. The basic tectonic styles of the Altaids can be summarized as arc-arc collision,oroclinal bending and large-scale rotation,and multiple subductions with a complicated archipelago *** basic features of accretionary orogens in general can be attributed to the amalgamation of complicated multiple linear *** Mesozoic to Cenozoic accretionary orogens in the world are also characterized by processes of multiple linear element *** attention should be paid to the multiple linear element amalgamation of ancient accretionary orogens,which will shed light on lateral and vertical continental growth.

Using newly determined Sm isotopic abundances for correcting the isobaric interference of Sm on Nd and the established mass bias relationship between Sm and Nd,a series of in situ Nd isotopic measurements were conducted for relatively high Nd concentrations of natural geological materials, including apatite,titanite,monazite and perovskite on a Neptune multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(MC-ICPMS),coupled to a 193 nm ArF excimer laser ablation *** results show that Ce has no significant influence on the precision and accuracy of Nd isotopic analyses for LREE-enriched geological minerals and that our approach is efficient in obtaining reliable Nd/Nd and Sm/Nd ratios for those materials with Sm/Nd<1(Sm/Nd<0.6).When combined with trace element and U-Pb isotope data,the in situ Nd isotopic data can provide important information on geological processes.

To better understand the onset of the India-Asia collision,a paleomagnetic study has been conducted on Paleogene volcanic rocks and sediments of the Linzizong Group(～64-44 Ma)from the Linzhou and Namling basins of the Lhasa Block at the southern margin of the Asian *** detailed rock magnetic investigations and progressive thermal or hybrid thermal and alternating field demagnetization,stable characteristic remanent magnetizations(ChRMs)were successfully defined from the Dianzhong(～64- 60 Ma),Nianbo and Pana(～60-44 Ma)*** ChRMs are of dual polarity,and pass a fold test with some of them in volcanic rocks carried by oxidation-induced hematite;we thus interpret them as primary *** results from the bulk of the collection imply that the southern leading edge of Asia,*** Lhasa Block,remained essentially stationary in low latitudes at～10°N without paleomagnetically-detectable tectonic rotation and latitudinal variation during the formation of the Linzizong ***,a large-scale post-collisional northward convergence in the Tibetan plateau and central Asia is very likely to have occurred after formation of the Linzizong Group,and the definitive paleoposition of the Lhasa Block during the period embracing the interval between～64 and 44 Ma provides further constraints on the latitudinal position of the initial contact between India and *** evidence rules out the model for a younger(～35 Ma)India-Asia collision and implies that the initial India-Asia collision occurred between～65 and 50 *** that Greater India comprised the present Indian continent together with a～950 km extension beyond its northern margin prior to the rifting of Gondwana in the Middle Jurassic,we conclude that the initial India-Asia collision most probably occurred between～55 and 60 Ma.

Traveltime data of Pg events,which are refractions from the crystalline basement(CB) in the controlled-source wide-aperture seismic sections,provide key constraints on the construction of shallow seismic structures above the crystalline *** sedimentary rock is usually considered to be anisotropic because of the preferred alignment of microcracks and thin layering in the upper *** the interpretation of Pg events needs to account for seismic velocity anisotropy. For this reason,it is the prerequisite to establish traveltime-offset relationship for Pg events in anisotropic ***,we first derive a traveltime-offset relationship for Pg waves by assuming a model with a linear velocity increase;then we present a scheme to invert Pg traveltime-offset data for velocity anisotropy in shallow crustal *** compare the Pg traveltimes calculated by our analytic equation with raytracing to test the ***,real data from the deep-seismic reflection profiles in the southeast china are analyzed to demonstrate the potential of our method.

It is difficult to do internal mass fractionation corrections for isotope dilution analysis by thermal ionization mass spectrometry(TIMS) or multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS),especially for *** this study,calculation methods for direct internal fractionation correction of spiked isotope analysis by TIMS or MC-ICP-MS cycle by cycle for elements having at least two internal reference isotopic ratios are *** TIMS,direct internal mass fractionation correction calculation methods,based on both power and exponential laws,are derived;whereas for MC-ICP-MS,due to larger mass fractionation effects,only exponential law is *** calculation strategies can be applied for both static and multi-dynamic *** multi-dynamic measurements,the isotope fractionation effect,gain and cup efficiency effects of different collectors,as well as ion beam fluctuation effects are all simultaneously *** calculation methods were verified by Sr isotopic analyses of spiked NBS987 standard solutions by TIMS and Hf isotopic analyses of spiked geological reference materials by *** addition,precise and accurate calibrations of isotopic ratios of the spikes,based on the calculation methods,are discussed.

Identification of marine natural gases with different origin sources

Kinetic experiments of gas generation for typical samples of marine gas precursors including low-maturity kerogen,residual kerogen and oil as well as dispersed liquid hydrocarbon(DLH)in source rocks were performed by closed system,and the evolution trends of molecular and isotopic compositions of natural gases from different precursors against the maturity(R0%)at laboratory conditions were *** diagrams of gas origin were calibrated by using the experimental data.A diagram based on the ratio of normal and isomerous butane and pentane(i/nC4-i/nC5)was proposed and used to identify the origins of the typical marine natural gases in the Sichuan Basin and the Tarim Basin, *** the maturities of natural gases were estimated by using the statistical relationships between the gaseous molecular carbon isotopic data and maturities(δ13C-R 0 %)with different *** results indicate that the molecular and isotopic compositions of simulated gases from different precursors are different from each *** example,the dryness index of the oil-cracking gas is the lowest;the dryness indices of gases from DLH and kerogen in closed system are almost the same;and the dryness index of gases from residual kerogen is extremely high,indicating that the kerogen gases are very dry;the contents of non-hydrocarbon gases in kerogen-cracking gases are far higher than those in oil-cracking and DLH-cracking *** molecular carbon isotopes of oil-cracking gases are the lightest,those of kerogen in closed system and GLH-cracking gases are the second lightest,and those of cracking gases from residual kerogen are the *** calibration results indicate that the diagrams of ln(C1/C2)-ln(C2/C3)andδ13C2-δ13C3-ln(C2/C3)can discriminate primary and secondary cracking gases,but cannot be used to identify gas origin sources,while the diagram of i/nC4-i/nC5 can differentiate the gases from different *** application results of these diagrams show that gas mixtures ext

Major and trace element as well as Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of mid-Cretaceous lavas across western Shandong Province,china have been *** lavas can be generally divided into southern Shandong group(including Pingyi and Mengyin) and northern Shandong group(including Laiwu and Zouping) based on their *** southern group lavas are characterized by extreme enrichment in LREE,large ion lithophile elements(LILE),and depletion in HFSE along with EMII-like Sr-Nd isotopic compositions,suggesting that the crustal involvements play a significant role in their *** studies with Fangcheng basalts reveal that the Triassic continent-continent collision between the Yangtze craton(YC) and the North china craton(NCC),and subsequent extensive modification of the sub-continental lithospheric mantle(SCLM) beneath the south part of the NCC by silicic melts released from the subducted Yangtze lower crust,formed an enriched lithospheric mantle which was the source of the southern Shandong group *** contrast,the northern Shandong group lavas are mildly enriched in LREE and LILE relative to those of the southern group *** isotope compositions are also distinctive in that the Sr isotopic ratios are very *** geochemical evidence and comparing studies with spatially closed related mafic intrusions suggest that the SCLM feeding the northern group lavas seems to be linked to carbonatitic metasomatism and changed modal proportion of phlogopite and clinopyroxene in the mantle rather than subduction-related *** contrasting geochemical characters of the mid-Cretaceous lavas across western Shangdong suggest that the SCLM of the NCC is spatially heterogeneous in Mesozoic.

In order to understand the Precambrian crustal growth and reworking history of the North china Craton, in situ U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotope analyses were carried out on the detrital zircons from a well-preserved, nearly undeformed Proterozoic sedimentary section with time interval of 1.8-0.8 ***,806 zircons separated from 7 samples collected from each representative stratigraphic unit were measured for U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopic compositions,of which 430 grains yielded concordant U-Pb *** concordant zircons show three prominent age groups of 1.6-1.8 Ga,1.9-2.2 Ga and 2.3-2.6 *** positive and negativeεHf(t) values were exhibited by zircons from all groups,suggesting both juvenile crust addition and crustal reworkingfor all age *** Hf crustal model ages of zircons reveal that the juvenile materials were continuously added to the crust between 4.0 and 2.0 Ga with a prominent peak at 2.7-3.0 Ga and a less significant peak at 3.1 -3.4 *** juvenile contributions to the newly formed crust decrease stepwise through time,and crustal reworking has dominated over juvenile inputs to the continental crust since 2.6 *** with the detrital zircons from modern rivers running within the North china Craton,the sedimentary rocks contain more older zircons,implying the relatively poor preservation of Archean crustal rocks in modern river sand,and accordingly the weights of Archean crystallizations ages and crustal growth inferred from detrital zircons in modern river are significantly *** integrated studies of detrital zircons from both modern river sands and ancient sedimentary rocks are essential to decipher the early crustal growth history more faithfully.

In the North china block,Cretaceous extensional tectonics is expressed by numerous syntectonic plutons bounded by ductile normal faults and several metamorphic core complexes (MCC).Cretaceous half-grabens filled by continental terrigeneous deposits are *** examples of MCC from South Liaoning Peninsula,Yiwul(u|¨)shan,Hohhot as well as the Yunmengshan syntectonic pluton spread along ca 2000 km suggest that the early Cretaceous extensional tectonics in the North china Block is globally *** geodynamics setting of this continental-scale extension remains *** is not satisfactorily explained by back-arc rifting related to the Paleo-Pacific subduction or crustal "unthickening".Mantle lithosphere removal is,however,*** of asthenosphere may be the origin of heat advection and fluid transfer from mantle to lower crust,thus triggering the Cretaceous magmatism,crustal softening and diffuse continental *** possible lithosphere-scale models,such as convective removal of mantle lithosphere and detachment of a large piece of mantle,are discussed.

The Nanhua rift occurred at c.820 *** last rifting stage was likely associated with the Neoprotcrozoic *** glacially influenced sequence,in ascending order,comprises the Jiangkou Group(c.720-663 Ma),the interglacial Datangpo Formation (Fm.)(c.663 Ma) and the Nantuo Fm.(<656-635 Ma).In deep-water environments the glacially influenced units exhibit conformable contacts with a transitional lower boundary and a sharp upper *** shallow marine environments,the lower boundary is always unconformable and erosive and the upper boundary is sharp but conformable. The Jiangkou glaciogenic deposits likely comprise the waxing,the maximum and the waning stages of *** lower part of the Chang’an *** to the waxing *** initially inherited the pre-glacial deep-water environment,and later,the thickening and coarsening upward trend likely indicates a lowering of sea level and ice-sheet *** predominant,massive diamictite in the upper Chang’an *** highlights the maximum glacial stage,and likely resulted from an amalgamation of debris flow deposits,suspension and ice-rafted *** Fulu *** the waning stage;its lower member is characterized by arkosic sandstone and greywacke indicative of an intcrstadial between glacial events,while the upper member represents the final glacial event of the Jiangkou glaciation. The carbonaceous black shale and Mn carbonate at the base of the interglacial Datangpo *** likely indicative of sedimentary starvation associated with Jiangkou *** Nantuo glaciation is characterized by an abrupt onset and termination with negligible waxing and waning *** sediments likely resulted from subglacial deposition,sedimentary gravity flows and ice-rafted debris with reworking by currents.
