Poly(1-vinylimidazole) Prospects in Gene Delivery

Polymeric amines are being studied intensively as components of systems for gene delivery in genetic engineering and gene therapy of genetic disorders, including cancer. Despite remarkable achievements in the field, polymeric amines, such as polyethyleneimine, show some disadvantages. Strong interaction between the amine-containing polymer and nucleic acid hampers the release of nucleic acid in the cell cytoplasm. Amine groups can interact with the cell membrane which results in cell death. These limitations of polymeric amines stimulated an investigation of new structures for gene delivery. Imidazole-containing polymers have attracted attention as lesser basic substances, while they are able to interact with polymeric acids. Further development of imidazole-based gene delivery agents requires knowledge about some fundamental aspects of interaction between nucleic acids, and polymeric imidazoles. In this work, we studied the complexation of poly(1-vinylimidazole) and oligomeric DnA. We found that the number of active sites capable of binding with negatively charged phosphate groups is comparable with the number of protonated imidazole units in the case of high molecular weight polymer. The increase in polymer charge by 1-bromopropane quaternizating 1%?5% imidazole units or by decreasing the pH to 6.5?7 considerably increased the ability of poly(1-vinylimidazole) to interact with oligonucleotides. The pH sensitivity of this interaction is interesting for cancer gene therapy because the tumours have a lowered intercellular pH (stable oligonucleotide complex) and a higher extracellular pH which can lead to complex dissociation. Minimal critical length for complexation of quaternized poly(1-vinylimidazole) and DnA is below eight units which corresponds to polymers with amine groups. The frequency of wing damage in a migrating butterfly

The ability to fly is crucial for migratory ***,the accumulation of damage on the wings over time can affect survival,especially for species that travel long *** examined the frequency of irreversible wing damage in the migratory butterfly Vanessa cardui to explore the effect of wing structure on wing damage frequency,as well as the mechanisms that might mitigate wing *** exceptionally high migration rate driven by high precipitation levels in their larval habitats in the winter of 2018–2019 provided us with an excellent opportunity to collect data on the frequency of naturally occurring wing damage associated with long-distance *** images of 135 individuals of *** were collected and analyzed in *** results show that the hindwings experienced a greater frequency of damage than the ***,forewings experienced more severe damage on the lateral margin,whereas hindwings experienced more damage on the trailing *** frequency of wing margin damage was higher in the painted lady butterfly than in the migrating monarch butterfly and in the butterfly Pontia occidentalis following artificially induced wing *** results of this study could be used in future comparative studies of patterns of wing damage in butterflies and other *** studies are needed to clarify whether the strategies for coping with wing damage differ between migratory and nonmigratory species.

The forecast of fire impact on Pinus sylvestris renewal in southwestern Siberia

Simulation of fire impact on forest floor renewal in pine forests was based on predictions for 2100 by the Canadian Climate Centre for increase in temperatures of by4.5℃and total precipitation by 14%in the West Siberian pre-forest-steppes and empirical regression relationships between them and the degree of burnt forest floor,as well as amount of Pinus sylvestris *** was predicted that by 2100,pine regeneration on fire prone sites under the canopy of the dominant forest type will increase by 29-54%compared to the 1980 s but on adjacent open sites,regeneration will decrease twice as *** means that the regeneration potential and pine population stability in pre-forest-steppes will become as poor as it is today.

Reconstruction Parameters of Local Scattering Sources of a Metallic Strip from the Backscattering Pattern

In this paper, it is proved the ability of quantity reconstruction, amplitudes and coordinates of metallic strip local scattering sources from the backscattering pattern. They are performed as the results of numerical solution for the infinite perfect conducting strip in case of E-polarization of the incident plane electromagnetic wave. In this case it is necessary to fulfill the following conditions. The local sources amplitudes should be the same order, in transverse and longitudinal directions the local sources should be separated into distances more than apparatus resolution, and the object maximum size does not have to be more than approximately 50λ. It was shown the limit and ability of the further development of the offered method.

Dynamic failure of dry and fully saturated limestone samples based on incubation time concept

This paper outlines the results of experimental study of the dynamic rock failure based on the comparison of dry and saturated limestone samples obtained during the dynamic compression and split tests. The tests were performed using the Kolsky method and its modifications for dynamic splitting. The mechanical data(e.g. strength, time and energy characteristics) of this material at high strain rates are obtained. It is shown that these characteristics are sensitive to the strain rate. A unified interpretation of these rate effects, based on the structuraletemporal approach, is hereby presented. It is demonstrated that the temporal dependence of the dynamic compressive and split tensile strengths of dry and saturated limestone samples can be predicted by the incubation time criterion. Previously discovered possibilities to optimize(minimize) the energy input for the failure process is discussed in connection with industrial rock failure processes. It is shown that the optimal energy input value associated with critical load, which is required to initialize failure in the rock media, strongly depends on the incubation time and the impact duration. The optimal load shapes, which minimize the momentum for a single failure impact, are demonstrated. Through this investigation, a possible approach to reduce the specific energy required for rock cutting by means of high-frequency vibrations is also discussed.

Highly Heat-Resistant Materials for Microelectronics:Hydrodynamic,Optical,and Conformational Properties of Fluorine Containing Poly(Amido-ortho-Hydroxy Amide)

The polycondensation of the mixture of diamines 5,5-methylene bis(2-aminophenol) and 4,4-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)dianiline(molar ratio 0.8:0.2) with isophthaloyl dichloride was used to synthesize poly(amido-o-hydroxy amide)(POA-F)-new heat resistant binder of the composites for microelectronics. The copolymer was fractionated, its hydrodynamic, optical, and conformational properties were researched, and molecular masses(ММ) of the fractions were defined. The polydispersity index was estimated. Based on experimental data, calculation of the size of a segment of Kuhn characterizing degree of an intramolecular orientation order and value of coefficients of the equation of Mark-Kuhn-Hauvink for viscometric and diffusion data were performed. It was demonstrated that introducing 20 mol % of the monomer with-CF3-groups does not lead to any changes in conformational properties of the macromolecules and does not change the degree of intramolecular orientational order(the Kuhn segment length). Optical characteristics of POA-F solutions are virtually similar to the corresponding values for POA prepared with the use of single amine-containing component-5,5-methylene bis(2-aminophenol). The received MM distribution for POA-F(prepolymer) provided the solubility of its films in alkaline solutions. The heat resistance(τ5 and τ10-temperatures corresponding to 5% and of 10% PBO-F mass loss of a polymer) of the powders and the films of PBO, PBO-F were determined. The electrophysical parameters-dielectric permittivity(ε) and dielectric loss tangent(tan δ) of the PBO-F films decreased down to 3.30 and 0.017, in comparison 3.40 and 0.025 for PBO respectively.

neurotrophic and metabotrophic potential of nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor: Linking cardiometabolic and neuropsychiatric diseases

One of biggest recent achievements of neurobiology is the study on neurotrophic factors. The neurotrophins are exciting examples of these factors. They belong to a family of proteins consisting of nerve growth fac-tor （nGF）, brain-derived neurotrophic factor （BDnF）, neurotrophin-3 （nT-3）, nT-4/5, nT-6, and nT-7. Today, nGF and BDnF are well recognized to mediate a diz-zying number of trophobiological effects, ranging from neurotrophic through immunotrophic and epitheliotro-phic to metabotrophic effects. These are implicated in the pathogenesis of various diseases. In the same vein, recent studies in adipobiology reveal that this tissue is the body’s largest endocrine and paracrine organ producing multiple signaling proteins collectively termed adipokines, with nGF and BDnF being also produced from adipose tissue. Altogether, neurobio-logy and adipobiology contribute to the improvement of our knowledge on diseases beyond obesity such as cardiometabolic （atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome） and neuropsychiatric （e.g. , Alzheimer’s disease and depression） diseases. The present review updates evidence for （1） neurotrophic and metabotrophic potentials of nGF and BDnF linking the pathogenesis of these diseases, and （2） nGF- and BDnF-mediated effects in ampakines, nMDA receptor antagonists, antidepressants, selective deacetylase inhibitors, statins, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma agonists, and purinergic P2X3 recep-tor up-regulation. This may help to construct a novel paradigm in the feld of translational pharmacology of neuro-metabotrophins, particularly nGF and BDnF.

The Digital Mapping of Ukrainian Soils on the Base of High Resolution Space Images

The first Ukrainian using experience of multispectral space scanning for digital soil mapping is described in this paper. Methodical approaches for detailed soil observation of Ukrainian forest regions are elaborated based on modem mapping principles. For the first time in Ukraine, digital soil maps based on GIS （geographic information system） were obtained for individual farms. In GIS based on space images and digital relief models, the medium-scale and large-scale soil maps were created by geo-statistical methods. According to elaborated methods, modem digital soil mapping should provide all combined works： remote sensing and traditional soil observations. The modem digital soil mapping should be based just on quantitative principles： on remote sensing data, geomorphologic field parameters, and chemical analyses. The methodological approaches, which were used for the first time in Ukraine during digital soil mapping by remote sensing methods, are described in this paper.

The publication is engaged in the issue of individual sorbents efficiency during the sorption of heavy metals contained in the burnt gases from the brown coal. Used sorbents for experiments are active coal and semi coke created by pyrolysis process. The process of heavy metals sorption was tested at the vertical laboratory equipment that consists of the two fluid layers that are arranged serially. Within the actual issue in the area of emission limits, the research has been focused on arsenic and mercury sorption. The obtained samples were analysed at the laboratory and consequently, their efficiency was evaluated. The aim of the article is to find out a suitable methodologies and respective alternative materials to be used within the industrial production.

Exact quasi-classical asymptotic beyond WKB-theory and beyond Maslov canonical operator to the Colombeau solutions of the n-dimensional Schrodinger equation is presented. Quantum jumps nature is considered successfully. We pointed out that an explanation of quantum jumps can be found to result from Colombeau solutions of the Schrodinger equation alone without additional postulates.
