A Case Study in the Use of Capsaicin in the Treatment of Neuropathic Chest Wall Pain and Post-thoracotomy Intercostal Neuralgia

Off label use of Quetenza? (capsaicin 8%) patch in relieving post-thoracotomy neuropathic pain proved temporarily effective, but to a degree indicating limited usefulness in a clinical setting.A 57 year-old male with chronic post-thoracotomy pain was treated with 8% capsaicin topically. Pre-procedure pain was rated as 8 on a 10 point scale, the 30 minute post procedure pain was reported as 2 - 3 on a 10 point scale. Neuralgia was completely resolved for the initial 48 hours post-procedure, then returned gradually over the next 5 days. Because pain transmission pathways are the same in post herpetic and post traumatic neuralgias, the use of 8% capsaicin merits additional study.

Nonpoint source pollution is the leading cause of water quality problems in the United States, and its reduction is a major challenge facing society today. Since the approval of the Clean Water Act of 1972, the United States has made great advances in reducing point source pollution from industrial and municipal wastewater systems. ＜正＞ Agriculture’s entry into the field of liquid fuel and chemical feedstock production creates opportunities to exploit new combinations of plant and land resources. Liquid biofuel production from perennial oil-producing plants may be a viable concept for producing liquid fuel from land not well adapted to annual agriculture. The concept has potential to increase land monetary returns with positive impacts on land stewardship as well as the energetics （energy-profit ratio） associated with production, processing, and conversion.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM)fungi contribute globally to ecosystem services and play an important role in sustainable crop ***,it is unclear which factors contribute most to their colonization and community structure at different sites,particularly in understudied *** study investigated the AM fungal communities associated with switchgrass(Panicum virgatum L.)in the understudied acidic and oligotrophic pine barrens ecosystem using next-generation *** was also sampled from agroecosystems,as well as,from a native prairie for *** pine barrens switchgrass harbored a distinct AM fungal community−Acaulospora and Ambispora were almost exclusively found in the pine barrens sites,and some of these species may represent undescribed *** was the most ubiquitous AM fungal genus recovered from all *** study suggests differences in the AM fungal community structure under different soil properties and land *** is the first sequence-based report of the AM fungal communities in the pine barrens ecosystem.
