The lesser mealworm,Alphitobius diaperinus,is an invasive tenebrionid beetle and a vector of *** to the emergence of insecticide resistance and consequent outbreaks that generate significant phytosanitary and energy costs for poultry farmers,it has become a major insect pest *** better understand the molecular mechanisms behind this resistance,we studied a strain of *** from a poultry house in Brittany that was found to be highly resistant to theβ-*** strain survivedβ-cyfluthrin exposures corresponding to more than 100 times the recommended *** used a comparative de novo RNA-Seq approach to explore genes expression in resistant versus sensitive *** de novo transcriptomic analyses showed that responses toβ-cyfluthrin likely involved a whole set of resistance *** related to detoxification,metabolic resistance,cuticular hydrocarbon biosynthesis and proteolysis were found to be constitutively overexpressed in the resistant compared to the sensitive ***-up enzymatic assays confirmed that the resistant strain exhibited high basal activities for detoxification enzymes such as cytochrome P450 monooxygenase and *** in-depth analysis of differentially expressed genes suggests the involvement of complex regulation of signaling *** knowledge of these resistance mechanisms is essential for the establishment of effective pest control.

The authors consider the property of detectability of discrete event systems in the presence of sensor attacks in the context of cyber-security. The authors model the system using an automaton and study the general notion of detectability where a given set of state pairs needs to be(eventually or periodically) distinguished in any estimate of the state of the system. The authors adopt the ALTER sensor attack model from previous work and formulate four notions of CA-detectability in the context of this attack model based on the following attributes: strong or weak; eventual or periodic. The authors present verification methods for strong CA-detectability and weak CA-detectability. The authors present definitions of strong and weak periodic CA-detectability that are based on the construction of a verifier automaton called the augmented CA-observer. The development also resulted in relaxing assumptions in prior results on D-detectability, which is a special case of CA-detectability.

The Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) is a disease-resistant, high-productivity bird. It has few breeding constraints. A phenotypic characterization study of the Japanese quail was carried out in southern Côte d’Ivoire to gain a better understanding of this bird. The study involved 298 individuals. The phenotypes were white, black, gray, and red. A total of 11 morphometric parameters were examined. Variables were significantly different between the phenotype and sex groups. The female quail was larger than the male quail. The quail was 20.77 and 4.10 cm long. The head was supported by a 5.89 cm-long neck. The tail was 3.61 cm long. The wing length was 10.42 cm, and the thigh diameter was 2.12 cm. The tarsus was 3.39 cm long and 0.61 cm in diameter. The average quail weight was 297.06 g. The quails in this study exhibit a high degree of morphological variation between individuals in terms of plumage. These results can help develop strategies for developing and genetically improving this short-cycle resource.

The aim of this study was to assess the seroprevalence of viral hepatitis B and C and co-infection with HIV among volunteer blood donors at the blood sampling and distribution depot (BSDD) in Ouahigouya. Patients and methods: Our study population consisted of all volunteer blood donors who had donated during a 2-year period from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020. Samples were taken from patients with no contraindications and serological tests were performed using ELISA tests. HBsAg, HCV-Ac and HIV serology were tested. All samples reactive for HIV, HBV and HCV were retested for confirmation using a second enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. A result was considered positive if both the first and second tests were positive. Results: In two years, the Ouahigouya BSDD recorded 9726 donations, including 7983 new donors and 1743 former donors. The average age of donors was 25.59 years, with a sex ratio of 3.4. The seroprevalence of HBV, HCV and HIV was 7.31%, 3.10% and 2.12% respectively. HBV-HCV co-infection was found in 0.32% of cases, HIV-HBV, HIV-HCV, and HIV-HBV-HCV co-infection were found in 0.25%, 0.09% and 0.04% respectively. Conclusion: The seroprevalence of viral hepatitis B and C remains high among volunteer blood donors in Ouahigouya, although a decline in seroprevalence appears to be on the horizon.

The concepts and methods used for the study of disordered systems have proven useful in the analysis of the evolution equations of quantum chromodynamics in the high-energy regime: Indeed, parton branching in the semi-classical approximation relevant at high energies and at a fixed impact parameter is a peculiar branching-diffusion process, and parton branching supplemented by saturation effects(such as gluon recombination) is a reaction-diffusion process. In this review article, we first introduce the basic concepts in the context of simple toy models, we study the properties of the latter, and show how the results obtained for the simple models may be taken over to quantum chromodynamics.

This study examines the socio-economic profile of livestock farmers in coastal Côte d’Ivoire. A total of 43 people were interviewed using well-structured questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive methods. The results showed that local Lagoon breeders are divided into two zones: southwest and southeast. Breeders in the south-western region are generally located in two sub-prefectures of the Tabou Department (Grabo and Oulodio). Tabou’s department alone accounts for 42% of the Lagoon breed in Côte d’Ivoire. Agriculture in this area is traditionally sedentary, practiced for social reasons. On the other hand, the south-eastern zone, located in the departments of Aboisso, Adzopé, Agboville, Grand-Lahou, Jacqueville, Abidjan, Dabou and Sikensi, represents 58% of the Lagoon breeding area in Côte d’Ivoire. This second group is characterised by improved breeding. Most of the farmers interviewed in this zone breed for economic reasons. However, the risk of cross-breeding, which already affects the local Lagoon breed, could be increased by the presence of other species such as the Zebu and Ndamas, or even the Baoulé, in this south-eastern herd.

Comparative study of abrasion via microindentation and microscratch tests of reinforced and unreinforced lamellar cast iron

This study compares micro-abrasive wear in two kinds of grey cast iron. Classical lamellar cast iron with fully pearlitic matrix(FGL1) and lamellar micro-alloyed cast iron with phosphorus and boron(FGL2) are used. FGL2 has a fully pearlitic matrix reinforced by the hard phosphorus eutectic phase. The microstructures of these two types of iron are mechanically characterized using nanoindentation tests. Vickers microindentation and microscratch tests are also performed on these iron samples. The indent and scratch images obtained via scanning electron microscopy were used to compare the scratch damage to the two kinds of iron. The friction coefficient is discussed in terms of applied load, indenter attack angle, and scratch damage. Nanoindentation tests show an improvement in graphite’s mechanical properties and an increase in the matrix hardness of the FGL2, relatively to FGL1. The same damage forms for both microindentation and microscratch testing were observed for the two iron samples. However, cracking of the hard phase is observed in FGL2. The results show that the scratching of the micro-alloyed iron(FGL2) leads to less matrix damage and to an extended microploughing wear mechanism. However, at low normal load, the reinforcement of the matrix can increase the friction coefficient.
