Effects of C2 hemisection on respiratory and cardiovascular functions in rats

High ce rvical spinal co rd injuries induce permanent neuromotor and autonomic deficits.These injuries impact both central respiratory and cardiovascular functions through modulation of the sympathetic nervous system.So far,cardiovascular studies have focused on models of complete contusion or transection at the lower cervical and thoracic levels and diaphragm activity evaluations using invasive methods.The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of C2 hemisection on different parameters representing vital functions(i.e.,respiratory function,cardiovascular,and renal filtration parameters)at the moment of injury and 7 days post-injury in rats.No ventilatory parameters evaluated by plethys mography were impacted during quiet breathing after 7 days post-injury,whereas permanent diaphragm hemiplegia was observed by ultrasound and confirmed by diaphragmatic electromyography in anesthetized rats.Interestingly,the mean arterial pressure was reduced immediately after C2 hemisection,with complete compensation at 7 days post-injury.Renal filtration was unaffected at 7 days post-injury;however,remnant systolic dysfunction chara cterized by a reduced left ventricular ejection fraction persisted at 7 days post-injury.Taken together,these results demonstrated that following C2 hemisection,diaphragm activity and systolic function are impa cted up to 7 days post-injury,whereas the respiratory and cardiovascular systems display vast ada ptation to maintain ventilatory parameters and blood pressure homeostasis,with the latter likely sustained by the remaining descending sympathetic inputs spared by the initial injury.A better broad characterization of the physiopathology of high cervical spinal cord injuries covering a longer time period post-injury could be beneficial for understanding evaluations of putative therapeutics to further increase cardiorespiratory recovery.

Traumatic cervical spinal cord injury （SCI）, with an annual incidence of 12,000 new cases in USA （NSCISC 2013）, causes devastating locomotor and respiratory paralysis and unfortunately compromises the human patient＇s lifespan. The severity of the injury depends on the degree and the extent of the initial trauma. In fact, respiratory failure is the leading cause of mortality following upper cervical SCI. However, 80% of the injuries are incomplete, allowing some modest spontaneous recovery. To date, no effective treatment is available in order to restore the loss of function.

A right module M over an associative ring R with unity is a QTAG-module if every finitely generated submodule of any homomorphic image of M is a direct sum of uniserial modules.This article considers the closure of h-pure-S-high submodules of QTAG-modules.Here,we determine all submodules S of a QTAG-module M such that each closure of h-pure-S-high submodule of M is h-pure-■-high in■.A few results of this theme give a comparison of some elementary properties of h-pure-S-high and S-high submodules.

Herein,a layer of molybdenum oxide(MoO_(x)),a transition metal oxide(TMO),which has outstanding catalytic properties in combination with a carbonbased thin film,is modified to improve the hydrogen production performance and protect the MoO_(x)in acidic media.A thin film of graphene is transferred onto the MoO_(x)layer,after which the graphene structure is doped with N and S atoms at room temperature using a plasma doping method to modify the electronic structure and intrinsic properties of the material.The oxygen functional groups in graphene increase the interfacial interactions and electrical contacts between graphene and MoO_(x).The appearance of surface defects such as oxygen vacancies can result in vacancies in MoO_(x).This improves the electrical conductivity and electrochemically accessible surface area.Increasing the number of defects in graphene by adding dopants can significantly affect the chemical reaction at the interfaces and improve the electrochemical performance.These defects in graphene play a crucial role in the adsorption of H^(+)ions on the graphene surface and their transport to the MoO_(x)layer underneath.This enables MoO_(x)to participate in the reaction with the doped graphene.N^(‐)and S^(‐)doped graphene(NSGr)on MoO_(x)is active in acidic media and performs well in terms of hydrogen production.The initial overpotential value of 359 mV for the current density of−10 mA/cm^(2)is lowered to 228 mV after activation.

Derated Mode of Power Generation in PV System Using Modified Perturb and Observe MPPT Algorithm

In a grid-integrated photovoltaic system(GIPVS),there exist issues such as surplus active power and inadequate performance of maximum power point tracking(MPPT).A surplus active power causes the overvoltage problem at the point of common coupling in low-or medium-voltage grid during the peak hours of power generation.Additionally,the inadequate performance of the MPPT algorithm results in power loss due to high settling time during the sudden change of irradiance.Therefore,to solve the surplus power problem,the curtailment of active power is suggested with improved MPPT algorithm under variable irradiance conditions.In this paper,a derated power generation mode(DPGM)control strategy is presented for the curtailment of active power.Additionally,a drift-free(named as modified)perturb and observe(P&O)technique is also proposed to improve the performance of the MPPT algorithm.Consequently,the DPGM control scheme with the intermediate boost converter shaves the surplus active power during the peak hours of power generation.Furthermore,the modified MPPT algorithm deals with the fluctuation of irradiance during non-peak hours.Thus,the proposed control scheme delivers in a more efficient system during the peak hours of power generation.In addition,it reduces the power loss and settling time during the change of irradiance for non-peak hours.Based on the proposed control scheme,a 30 kW system has been simulated in MATLAB/Simulink using Simpower tools under different environmental conditions.

1 Current status of unmet need for family planning Family planning is regarded as one of the major public health successes in the past 70 years.Worldwide,the contraceptive prevalence rate(CPR)for women of reproductive age rose from 28%in 1970 to 48%in 2019 and demand satisfied rose from 55 to 79%in the same time period(Haakenstad et al.,2022).Family planning offers both health and social benefits for women.It saves lives by pre-venting unintended,unwanted and unplanned pregnancies thereby reducing the need for abortions(that can often be unsafe and illegal)and also by reducing the probability of a woman’s death because of causes related to pregnancy and child-birth.

A review on current status of municipal solid waste management in India

Municipal solid waste management is a major environmental issue in India. Due to rapid increase in urbanization, industrialization and population, the generation rate of municipal solid waste in Indian cities and towns is also increased. Mismanagement of municipal solid waste can cause adverse environmental impacts, public health risk and other socio-economic problem. This paper presents an overview of current status of solid waste management in India which can help the competent authorities responsible for municipal solid waste management and researchers to prepare more efficient plans.

Diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging of liver: Principles, clinical applications and recent updates

Diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI), a functional imaging technique exploiting the Brownian motion of water molecules, is increasingly shown to have value in various oncological and non-oncological applications. Factors such as the ease of acquisition and ability to obtain functional information in the absence of intravenous contrast, especially in patients with abnormal renal function, have contributed to the growing interest in exploring clinical applications of DWI. In the liver, DWI demonstrates a gamut of clinical applications ranging from detecting focal liver lesions to monitoring response in patients undergoing serial follow-up after loco-regional and systemic therapies. DWI is also being applied in the evaluation of diffuse liver diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis. In this review, we intend to review the basic principles, technique, current clinical applications and future trends of DW-MRI in the liver.
