AIm: To assess the effects of Sb on fecal flora and shortchain fatty acids (SCFA) in patients on long-term ***: Ten patients (3 females, 7 males, 59±5.5 years),on TEN for a median of 13 mo (1-125), and 15 healthy volunteers (4 females, 11 males, 32±2.0 years) received Sb (0.5 g bid PO) for 6 d. Two stool samples were taken before, on the last 2 d and 9-10 d after treatment, for SCFA measurement and for culture and bacterial *** (mean±SE) were compared using sign tests and ***: Fecal butyrate levels were lower in patients(10.1±2.9 mmol/kg) than in controls (19.2±3.9, P= 0.02).Treatment with Sb increased total fecal SCFA levels in patients (150.2±27.2 vs 107.5±18.2 mmol/kg, P = 0.02)but not in controls (129.0±28.6 vs 113.0±15.2 mmol/kg,NS). At the end of treatment with Sb, patients had higher fecal butyrate (16.0±4.4 vs 10.1 [2.9] mmol/kg, P = 0.004).Total SCFAs remained high 9 d after treatment was discontinued. Before the treatment, the anaerobe to aerobe ratio was lower in patients compared to controls (2.4±2.3 vs69.8±1.8, P = 0.003). There were no significant changes in the fecal flora of TEN ***: Sb-induced increase of fecal SCFA concentrations (especially butyrate) may explain the preventive effects of this yeast on TEN-induced diarrhea.

Laser plasma accelerators(LPAs)enable the generation of intense and short proton bunches on a micrometre scale,thus offering new experimental capabilities to research fields such as ultra-high dose rate radiobiology or material *** spectrally broadband,laser-accelerated proton bunches allow for tailored volumetric dose deposition in a sample via single bunches to excite or probe specific sample *** rising number of such experiments indicates a need for diagnostics providing spatially resolved characterization of dose distributions with volumes of approximately 1 cm^(3) for single proton bunches to allow for fast online *** we present the scintillator-based miniSCIDOm detector for online single-bunch tomographic reconstruction of dose distributions in volumes of up to approximately 1 cm^(3).The detector achieves a spatial resolution below 500μm and a sensitivity of 100 *** detector performance is tested at a proton therapy cyclotron and an LPA proton *** experiments’primary focus is the characterization of the scintillator’s ionization quenching behaviour.

Nephronophthisis-related ciliopathies(NPHP-RC)represent one of the most common causes of chronic kidney disease in the first three decades of life and are characterized by a broad genetic and clinical heterogeneity.1 To date,more than 90 genes have been identified that cause autosomalrecessive NPHP-RC if mutated,accounting for up to 60%of cases.1 Among these,homozygous deletions of NPHP1 are the most common *** genes localize to primary cilia,basal bodies,or the centrosome and lead to a primary ciliary disruption if mutated,thereby causing a broad phenotypical spectrum.1 Patients that suffer from NPHP-RC can either have an isolated renal phenotype,such as polyuria,polydipsia,decreased urinary concentration ability,and secondary enuresis due to loss of tubular function,or present with extrarenal symptoms including retinal degeneration,cerebellar vermis hypoplasia,or hepatic *** are often diagnosed in early adolescence,reaching end-stage renal disease before 25 years of age,but early onset and rapidly progressive forms of NPHP-RC also exist.1 Renal ultrasound indicates kidneys of normal or reduced renal length with increased echogenicity and corticomedullary cysts.

manganese(mn)is an essential element required for the growth of all known living *** plants acquire mn from the rhizosphere,and its translocation into,and distribution within,the plant involves a multitude of transporters(Alejandro et al.,2020).In the aerial part of the green plant,the most prominent reaction that depends on mn is the water-splitting reaction of photosystem II,which employs a tetra-mn cluster located in the thylakoid lumen of ***,no less important reactions take place in mitochondria,where a mn superoxide dismutase acts as a scavenger of reactive oxygen species,and in the Golgi apparatus,where mn-dependent glycosyltransferases are involved in cell wall biosynthesis.

Abrasive wear mechanisms—including two-body and three-body abrasion—dominate the performance and lifespan of tribological systems in many engineering fields,even of those operating in lubricated *** steel(100Cr6)pins and discs in a flat-on-flat contact were utilized in experiments together with 5 and 13 μm Al_(2)O_(3)-based slurries as interfacial media to shed light on the acting *** results indicate that a speed-induced hydrodynamic effect occurred and significantly altered the systems'frictional behavior in tests that were performed using the 5 μm *** experiments revealed that a speed-dependent hydrodynamic effect can lead to a 14% increase in film thickness and a decrease in friction of around 2/3,accompanied by a transition from two-body abrasion to three-body abrasion and a change in wear mechanism from microcutting and microploughing to fatigue ***,no correlation could be found between the total amount of wear and the operating state of the system during the experiment;however,the wear distribution over pin and disc was observed to change *** paper studies the influence of the hydrodynamic effect on the tribological mechanism of lubricated abrasive wear and also highlights the importance to not only consider a tribological systems'global amount of wear.

This systematic review aimed to assess the current knowledge of human-animal interactions(HAIs)in disaster settings and identify areas for future research.A Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and meta-Analyses search was conducted on three multidisciplinary databases,identifying English-language journal articles published between January 2000and February 2022 that explored the benefits of and challenges associated with HAI in disasters and *** review analyzed 94 articles using both quantitative and qualitative *** review found a paucity of universal terminology to describe the bidirectional relationship between humans and animals during disasters and a failure to include all animal types in every stage of disaster and emergency ***,research predominantly focused on the health and well-being benefits of HAI for humans rather than *** to promote social and environmental justice for humans and their co-inhabitants should support the welfare of both humans and animals in disaster *** recommendations were developed based on these findings to increase the inclusion of HAI in research,policy,and *** of the review included the exclusion of pre-2000 articles and all grey literature,limited research examining different combinations of animal and disaster types,and limited research outside of North America.

Air pollution has become an important issue,especially in Caribbean urban areas,and,particulate matter(Pm)emitted by different natural and anthropogenic sources causes environmental and health *** this work,we studied the concentrations of Pm_(10) and Pm_(2.5) sources in an industrial and port urban area in the Caribbean region of *** samples were collected within 48-h periods between April and October 2018 by using a Partisol 2000 i-D *** geochemical characterization was performed by X-ray fluorescence(XRF)***,ionic species and black carbon(BC)were quantified by ion chromatography and reflectance spectroscopy,*** the Positive matrix Factorization(PmF)receptor model,the contributions of Pm sources were *** average concentration of Pm_(10) was 46.6±16.2μg/m^(3),with high concentrations of Cl and *** Pm_(2.5),the average concentration was 12.0±3.2μg/m^(3),and the most abundant components were BC,S,and *** receptor model identified five sources for Pm_(10) and Pm_(2.5).For both fractions,the contributions of marine sea spray,re-suspended soil,and vehicular traffic were *** addition,Pm_(2.5) included two mixed sources were found to be fuel oil combustion with fertilizer industry emissions,and secondary aerosol sources with building construction ***,Pm_(10) was found to also include building construction emissions with re-suspended soil,and metallurgical industry *** obtained geochemical atmospheric results are important for the implementation of strategies for the continuous improvement of the air quality of the Caribbean region.

Air pollution has become a critical issue in urban areas,so a broad understanding of its spatiotemporal characteristics is important to develop public *** study analyzes the spatiotemporal variation of atmospheric particulate matter(Pm_(10) and Pm_(2.5))and ozone(O_(3))in Barranquilla,Colombia from march 2018 to June 2019 in three monitoring *** average concentrations observed for the móvil,Policía,and Tres Avemarías stations,respectively,for Pm_(10):46.4,51.4,and 39.7μg/m^(3);for Pm_(2.5):16.1,18.1,and 15.1μg/m^(3) and for O_(3):35.0,26.6,and 33.6μg/m^(3).The results indicated spatial and temporal variations between the stations and the pollutants *** highest Pm concentrations were observed in the southern part of the city,while for ozone,higher concentrations were observed in the *** variations are mainly associated with the influence of local sources in the environment of each site evaluated as well as the meteorological conditions and transport patterns of the study *** study also verified the existence of differences in the concentrations of the studied pollutants between the dry and rainy seasons and the contribution of local sources as biomass burnings from the Isla Salamanca Natural Park and long-range transport of dust particles from the Sahara *** study provides a scientific baseline for understanding air quality in the city,which enables policy makers to adopt efficient measures that jointly prevent and control pollution.
