Down-expression of tumor protein p53-induced nuclear protein 1 in human gastric cancer

AIM： Overexpression of tumor protein p53-induced nudear protein 1 （TP53INP1） induces G1 cell cycle arrest and increases p53-mediated apoptosis. To clarify the clinical importance of TP53INP1, we analyzed TP53INP1 and p53 expression in gastric cancer, METHODS： TP53INP1 and p53 expression were examined using immunohistochemistry in 142 cases of gastric cancer. The apoptosis of gastric cancer cells was analyzed using the TUNEL method. The relationship between the expression of TP53INP1 and clinicopathological factors was statistically analyzed. RESULTS： TP53INP1 was expressed in 98% （139/142 cases） of non-cancerous gastric tissues and was downexpressed in 64% （91/142 cases） of gastric cancer lesions from the same patients. TP53INP1 expression was significantly decreased （43.9%） in poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma compared with well or moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma （81.6%）. Cancers invading the submucosa or deeper showed lower positively （59.1%） compared with mucosal cancers （85.2%）. Decrease or loss of TP53INP1 expression was significantly correlated with lymphatic invasion （54.3% vs 82.0% without lymphatic invasion） and node-positive patients （31.3% vs 68.3% in node-negative patients）. P53 was expressed in 68 （47.9%） patients of gastric cancer, whereas it was absent in normal gastric tissues. A significant association was also observed between TP53INP1 status and the level of apoptosis in tumor cells： the apoptotic index in TP53INP1-positive tissues was significantly higher than that in TP53INP41-negative portions. Finally, when survival data were analyzed, loss of TP53INP1 expression had a significant effect in predicting a poor prognosis （P= 0.0006）.CONCLUSION： TPS3INP1-positive rate decreases with the progression of gastric cancer. TPS3INP1 protein negativity is significantly associated with aggressive pathological phenotypes of gastric cancer. TPS3INP1 is related to the apoptosis of gastric cancer cells. Bioleaching of zinc from gold ores using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans

The present work investigated microbial leaching of zinc from ore using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans （ATCC 14859）. The ore samples, consisted of 13wt% zinc, were obtained from a gold mine in north-eastern Thailand. A shake flask study was performed on the ore samples using a rotary shaker under the following fixed conditions （250 r·min^-1, 30℃ for 16 d）. The influence of various conditions, namely medium type （with and without iron）, particle ore size （〈20, 20-40, 40-60, 60-100, and 〉100 mesh）, ore density （20 kg·m^-3, 50 kg·m^-3, and 100 kg·m^-3）, and pH of the medium （2, 2.5, 2.8, and 3）, were investigated. The microbial leaching was assessed by determining the concentration of zinc in the medium and compared with the initial sample concentration. The results show that Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans can successfully leach zinc by as much as 6 times compared with the control experiment （without Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans ferrooxidans）. The maximum efficiency （92.3%） for microbial leaching is obtained in iron-containing medium, 20-40 mesh ore sizes, 20 kg·m^-3 ore density at pH 2.8, and the zinc content is found in the medium at about 120 mg·m^-1.

The renewable energy source(RES)penetration in end use must be strengthened to reach the prefixed decarbonization targets.A penetration obstacle is represented by the Power Grid,designed with an architecture disinclined to RES ***,different solutions are available to integrate these latter issues without affecting the Grid,among these,the reversible Solid Oxide Cell(rSOC)promises high efficiencies and the possibility to control energy fluxes in both production and *** this study,a series of hourly simulations based on real data were designed to evaluate the rSOC capacity to integrate a large number of RESs in the end use of three different buildings,through analyzing the possible congestion on the Power *** a rSOC model we chose the Smart Energy Hub proposed by Sylfen while for the buildings we selected a school,a hotel,and an office located in Procida,*** results show the rSOC capacity to integrate RES increased from 40%to 62%according to the storage capacity and the building’s hourly load curve and seasonal consumptions.

We present an application of the methods recently developed for the study of quasicrystal structures to the analysis of multiperiodicity of semiregular variables. A light curve analysis of UW Her shows frequencies that can be included within the general scheme characterizing the Fourier spectra of Fibonacci quasiperiodic sequences. The analysed data come from the BAA Variable star Section computerised archive.

Sperm subpopulations in avian species： a comparative study between the rooster （Gallus domesticus） and Guinea fowl （Numida meleagris）

The main aims of this research were to study possible differences in objective morphometric sperm characteristics, establish normative sperm morphometry standards, and evaluate the presumed different subpopulation distribution of avian spermatozoa from the rooster （Gallus domesticus） and Guinea fowl （Numida meleagris） as model avian species. Seventy-two ejaculates （36 per species studied） were obtained manually, following a training period involving gently combined dorso-abdominal and *** massage of the birds. Ejaculates were processed for volume, sperm concentration, viability, motility, and morphology. Moreover, samples were submitted for sperm morphometric assessment using objective Computer-Assisted Semen Analysis for Morphometry （CASA-Morph） methods, with sperm morphometric descriptors evaluated by Principal Component Analysis （PCA） and multivariate clustering analyses. There were several differences observed between the avian species in values obtained for ejaculate volume and sperm concentration （P 〈 0.001）. Irrespective of species, PCA revealed two Principal Components （PCs） explaining more than 80% of the variance. In addition, the number of subpopulations differed with species （three and five subpopulations for rooster and Guinea fowl, respectively）. Moreover, the distribution of the sperm subpopulations was found to be structurally different between species. In conclusion, our findings from using CASA-Morph methods indicate pronounced sperm morphometric variation between these two avian species. Because of the strong differences observed in morphometric parameter values and their subpopulation distribution, these results suggest that application of objective analytical methods such as CASA-Morph could substantially improve the reliability of comparative studies and help establish valid normative sperm morphological values for avian species.

Segment Anything for Comprehensive Analysis of Grapevine Cluster Architecture and Berry Properties

Grape cluster architecture and compactness are complex traits influencing disease susceptibility,fruit quality,and *** methods for these traits include visual scoring,manual methodologies,and computer vision,with the latter being the most scalable *** of the existing computer vision approaches for processing cluster images often rely on conventional segmentation or machine learning with extensive training and limited *** Segment Anything Model(SAM),a novel foundation model trained on a massive image dataset,enables automated object segmentation without additional *** study demonstrates out-of-the-box SAM's high accuracy in identifying individual berries in 2-dimensional(2D)cluster *** this model,we managed to segment approximately 3,500 cluster images,generating over 150,000 berry masks,each linked with spatial coordinates within their *** correlation between human-identified berries and SAM predictions was very strong(Pearson's r^(2)=0.96).Although the visible berry count in images typically underestimates the actual cluster berry count due to visibility issues,we demonstrated that this discrepancy could be adjusted using a linear regression model(adjusted R^(2)=0.87).We emphasized the critical importance of the angle at which the cluster is imaged,noting its substantial effect on berry counts and *** proposed different approaches in which berry location information facilitated the calculation of complex features related to cluster architecture and ***,we discussed SAM's potential integration into currently available pipelines for image generation and processing in vineyard conditions.
