Pore pressure prediction in offshore Niger delta using data-driven approach: Implications on drilling and reservoir quality

Despite exploration and production success in Niger Delta,several failed wells have been encountered due to ***,it is very essential to understand the spatial distribution of pore pressure and the generating mechanisms in order to mitigate the pitfalls that might arise during *** research provides estimates of pore pressure along three offshore wells using the Eaton's transit time method,multi-layer perceptron artificial neural network(MLP-ANN)and random forest regression(RFR)*** results show that there are three pressure magnitude regimes:normal pressure zone(hydrostatic pressure),transition pressure zone(slightly above hydrostatic pressure),and over pressured zone(significantly above hydrostatic pressure).The top of the geopressured zone(2873 mbRT or 9425.853 ft)averagely marks the onset of overpressurization with the excess pore pressure above hydrostatic pressure(P∗)varying averagely along the three wells between 1.06−24.75 *** results from the three methods are self-consistent with strong correlation between the Eaton's method and the two machine learning *** models have high accuracy of about>97%,low mean absolute percentage error(MAPEoefficient of determination(R2>0.98).our results have also shown that the principal generating mechanisms responsible for high pore pressure in the offshore Niger Delta are disequilibrium compaction,unloading(fluid expansion)and shale diagenesis.

Data envelopment analysis for highway asset investment assessment

Highway agencies have been using many of the elements of asset management with the support of various decision-making *** determine the most effective investment strategy with scarce resources,the integration,and hence better utilization,of existing tools and practices across asset classes is generally *** paper applies data envelopment analysis(DEA)to benchmark different highway investment scenarios using existing data or data readily available through existing *** asset types,pavements,bridges,and traffic signage,are *** investment analysis results from the Highway Economic Requirements System State Version(HERS-ST)application,the PoNTIS bridge management system software,and purpose-built traffic signage spreadsheet are obtained to capture the changes of performance measures under various budget scenarios and are further used as the inputs for the DEA process to benchmark investment scenarios for each individual ***,the performance measures and budget levels are assembled in the Asset Manager-NT software,whose results are input into DEA to benchmark cross-assets resource allocation *** for the management of highway network is addressed via case studies in a systematic manner that recognizes the tradeoffs among different funding periods and objectives such as preserving existing investments,safety,roughness and user *** study has established a preliminary implementable framework of highway asset management by linking DEA approach and current widely used decision-making tools for more efficient investments within and cross assets,and better understand of the tradeoffs,costs and consequences of various asset management decisions.

Ensemble-based Kalman Filters in Strongly Nonlinear Dynamics

This study examines the effectiveness of ensemble Kalman filters in data assimilation with the strongly nonlinear dynamics of the Lorenz-63 model, and in particular their use in predicting the regime transition that occurs when the model jumps from one basin of attraction to the other. Four configurations of the ensemble-based Kalman filtering data assimilation techniques, including the ensemble Kalman filter, en- semble adjustment Kalman filter, ensemble square root filter and ensemble transform Kalman filter, are evaluated with their ability in predicting the regime transition （also called phase transition） and also are compared in terms of their sensitivity to both observational and sampling errors. The sensitivity of each ensemble-based filter to the size of the ensemble is also examined.

Pt alloy oxygen-reduction electrocatalysts: Synthesis, structure, and property

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs) are considered a promising power source for electric vehicles and stationary residential applications. However, current PEMFCs have several problems that require solutions, including high cost, insufficient power density, and limited performance durability. A kinetically sluggish oxygen reduction reaction(oRR) is primarily responsible for these issues. The development of advanced Pt-based catalysts is crucial for solving these problems if the large-scale application of PEMFCs is to be realized. In this review, we summarize the recent progress in the development of Pt M alloy(M = Fe, Co, Ni, etc.) catalysts with an emphasis on ordered Pt M intermetallic catalysts, which exhibit significantly enhanced activity and stability. In addition to exploring the intrinsic catalytic performance in traditional aqueous electrolytes via engineering nanostructures, morphologies, and crystallinity of Pt M particles, we highlight recent efforts to study catalysts under real fuel cell environments by the membrane electrode assembly(MEA).

Development of a new algorithm for implementing the edge effect offset for subsidence calculations

The surface deformation prediction system(SDPS) program has been developed as an engineering tool for the calculation of subsidence deformation indices through the implementation of various prediction *** basic user-defined input parameters, SDPS can determine subsidence indices, such as mining induced displacements, strains, tilt, etc., at any elevation between the seam and the horizontal or varying surface topography.A fundamental parameter in obtaining reliable ground deformation results is the determination of the edge effect *** value assigned to the edge effect offset corresponds to a virtual offsetting of boundary lines delineating the extracted panel to allow for roof cantilevering over the mined-out *** objective of this paper is to describe the methods implemented in updating the edge effect offset algorithm within *** proven geometric equations, the newly developed algorithm provides a more robust calculation of the offset boundary of the extracted panel for simplistic as well as more complex mining *** that an extracted panel is represented by a closed polyline, the new edge offset algorithm calculates a polyline offset into the extracted panel with respect to the user defined edge effect offset *** deformations are then calculated using this adjusted panel *** Matlab program was utilized for development and testing of the new edge effect offset *** completing rigorous testing regimes, the new offset algorithm will be integrated into SDPS further increasing the speed and reliability of the program resulting in a retrospective increase in capability and flexibility.

Views of health service providers on obstacles to tuberculosis control in Ghana

Background:Although Ghana does not fall into the category of those countries which have a high burden of tuberculosis(TB),the disease does present considerable economic and health limitations to individuals infected with,and affected by,the disease,as well as to the health system in *** this fact,insufficient studies have been done on the key barriers to controlling the *** paper presents results from an exploratory study on the constraints of controlling TB in Ghana based on the opinions of health service ***:In-depth interviews were conducted with frontline health workers involved in TB control in the *** were purposively selected from a pool of national and regional,and district and facility level coordinators of the National Tuberculosis Control Programme(NTP).one key informant was also selected from an international non-governmental organisation(NGo)involved in TB-related activities in *** were utilised to complement the *** were analysed ***:Respondents identified the following as being constraints to TB control:clinical complication,bottlenecks in funding administration,quality of physical infrastructure,competition for attention and funding,unsatisfactory coordination between TB and HIV control programmes,a poor public-private partnership,and weak monitoring and evaluation of ***:This paper provides evidence of some key barriers to TB *** barriers,as reported,were generally health *** this list of barriers is not exhaustive,it would be useful to take them into account when planning for TB control,thus adopting a more rounded approach to TB management in the *** well as that,further studies should be done to explore patients’views on health service-related barriers to TB control.
