Spatiotemporal characteristics of cultivated land use eco-efficiency and its influencing factors in China from 2000 to 2020

Improving cultivated land use eco-efficiency(CLUE)can effectively promote agricultural sustainability,particularly in developing countries where CLUE is generally low.This study used provincial-level data from China to evaluate the spatiotemporal evolution of CLUE from 2000 to 2020 and identified the influencing factors of CLUE by using a panel Tobit model.In addition,given the undesirable outputs of agricultural production,we incorporated carbon emissions and nonpoint source pollution into the global benchmark-undesirable output-super efficiency-slacks-based measure(GB-US-SBM)model,which combines global benchmark technology,undesirable output,super efficiency,and slacks-based measure.The results indicated that there was an upward trend in CLUE in China from 2000 to 2020,with an increase rate of 2.62%.The temporal evolution of CLUE in China could be classified into three distinct stages:a period of fluctuating decrease(2000-2007),a phase of gradual increase(2008-2014),and a period of rapid growth(2015-2020).The major grain-producing areas(MPAs)had a lower CLUE than their counterparts,namely,non-major grain-production areas(non-MPAs).The spatial agglomeration effect followed a northeast-southwest strip distribution;and the movement path of barycentre revealed a"P"shape,with Luoyang City,Henan Province,as the centre.In terms of influencing factors of CLUE,investment in science and technology played the most vital role in improving CLUE,while irrigation index had the most negative effect.It should be noted that these two influencing factors had different impacts on MPAs and non-MPAs.Therefore,relevant departments should formulate policies to enhance the level of science and technology,improve irrigation condition,and promote sustainable utilization of cultivated land.

Earthquake-related hydrochemical changes in thermal springs have been widely observed;however,quantitative modeling of the reactive transport process is absent.In the present study,we apply reactive transport simulation to capture the hydrochemical responses in a thermal spring following the Wenchuan Ms 8.0 and Lushan Ms 7.0 earthquakes.We first constrain deep reservoir geothermal fluid compositions and temperature by multicomponent geothermometry,and then a reactive geochemical transport model is constructed to reproduce the hydrochemical evolution process.The results show that the recharge from the shallow aquifer increases gradually until it reaches a peak because of the permeability enhancement caused by the Lushan earthquake,which may be the mechanism to explain the earthquake-related hydrochemical responses.In contrast to the postseismic effect of the Wenchuan earthquake,the chemical evolution can be considered as hydrochemical anomalies related to the Lushan earthquake.This study proves that the efficient simulation of reactive transport processes is useful for investigating earthquake-related signals in hydrochemical time series.

Abiotic stresses, such as drought, salt, extreme temperatures, and heavy metal pollution, are the main environmental factors that limit crop growth and yield. Sorghum, a C4 grass plant with high photosynthetic efficiency, can grow in adverse environmental conditions due to its excellent stress resistance characteristics. Therefore, unraveling the stress-resistance mechanism of sorghum could provide a theoretical basis for developing and cultivating various stress-resistant crops. This understanding could also help to create a conducive environment for using marginal soil in agriculture and ensuring food security. In this review, we discuss the adaptation mechanisms of sorghum under drought, salinity, temperature, and soil heavy metal stresses, the specific response to stress, the screening of sorghum-resistant germplasm, and the identification and functional analysis of the relevant genes and quantitative trait loci(QTL). In addition, we discuss the application potential of different stress-tolerant sorghum germplasms reported to date and emphasize the feasibility and potential use in developing and promoting highly stress-tolerant sorghum in marginal soil.

Properly regulated flowering time is pivotal for successful plant reproduction.The floral transition from vegetative growth to reproductive growth is regulated by a complex gene regulatory network that integrates environmental signals and internal conditions to ensure that flowering takes place under favorable conditions.Brassica rapa is a diploid Cruciferae species that includes several varieties that are cultivated as vegetable or oil crops.Flowering time is one of the most important agricultural traits of B.rapa crops because of its influence on yield and quality.The transition to flowering in B.rapa is regulated by several environmental and developmental cues,which are perceived by several signaling pathways,including the vernalization pathway,the autonomous pathway,the circadian clock,the thermosensory pathway,and gibberellin(GA)signaling.These signals are integrated to control the expression of floral integrators BrFTs and BrSOC1s to regulate flowering.In this review,we summarized current research advances on the molecular mechanisms that govern flowering time regulation in B.rapa and compare this to what is known in Arabidopsis.

Poverty Volatility and Tax Revenue Instability in Developing Countries

This paper complements the relatively few existing studies on the macroeconomic effects of poverty in developing countries, by investigating the effect of poverty volatility on tax revenue instability. The empirical analysis has been conducted using an unbalanced panel dataset of 97 developing countries covering the period of 1980–2017 and primarily the two-step system generalized method of moments estimator. Findings have revealed that least developed countries tend to experience a positive tax revenue instability effect of poverty volatility, while poverty volatility results in lower tax revenue instability in relatively advanced countries. Additionally, poverty volatility dampens the instability of tax revenue when poverty rates are low, and enhances it when countries face a greater extent of external shocks. From a policy perspective, this analysis shows that it would be essential for policymakers to dampen the volatility of poverty rates (notably in countries with high poverty rates) if they were to ensure the stability of tax revenue or reduce its instability, given the adverse effect of tax revenue instability on economic growth.

Introduction: The HPV vaccine was included in the Expanded Programme on Immunisation in Senegal in 2018. However, vaccination coverage is still low among targeted girls. The aim of this research was to study the factors associated with vaccine uptake among girls aged 9 - 14 years in the Langue de Barbarie area of saint-Louis, Senegal. Methodology: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. The sample size was calculated using the Schwartz formula and distributed proportionally to the size of the population in the neighborhoods. Data were collected from 2nd to 19th January 2024 from mothers or guardians of girls aged 9 to 14 using anonymous questionnaires configured on tablets with Survey 123 software and analysed using R software. Results: A total of 799 people were interviewed. The average age of the respondents was 35.67 years, with a standard deviation of 7.08 and a range of 17 and 49 years. Reported vaccination coverage was 41.9%. Factors positively correlated with vaccination included: attendance at primary school or daara (OR = 2.50 [CI: 1.43 - 4.48] and OR = 2.05 [CI: 1.09 - 3.94]), information about vaccination (OR = 6.64 [CI: 4.59 - 9.72]), history of cervical cancer screening among mothers or guardians (OR = 6.64 [CI: 4.59 - 9.72]). Conclusion: Identifying the factors associated with HPV vaccination is necessary to assess and improve the vaccination strategy in order to improve vaccination coverage among targeted girls.

Introduction: The relationship between knowledge of HPV and vaccination has been established. The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge of mothers or guardians of girls aged 9 - 14 about cervical cancer and their attitudes to HPV vaccination. Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-sectional survey. The sample size was calculated using the Schwartz formula and distributed proportionally to the size of the neighbourhood population. Data was collected between 2nd to 19th January 2024 using anonymous questionnaires configured on tablets with Survey 123 software and analysed using R software. Results: A total of 799 people were interviewed. The average age of the respondents was 35.67 years, with a standard deviation of 7.08 and a range of 17 and 49 years. The information channels for cervical cancer were the media (82.8%), health facilities (47.7%) and community intermediaries (23.3%). Only 53.7% had information about the vaccine and 25.5% about the vaccination strategy. The main reason for accepting the vaccine was awareness of the seriousness of cervical cancer (55.1%). Conclusion: It is essential to take stock of knowledge about cervical cancer and attitudes to vaccination to assess the impact of interventions and redirect strategies to improve vaccination coverage. .

It is difficult to achieve selective separation and enrichment of different rare earths from high abundance yttrium ores efficiently only dependent on their discrepancy in thermodynamic properties.The present work suggests a new strategy based on non-equilibrium kinetic separation of Er and Tm on the surface of freely rising oil droplets to control the separation order of Y.It is revealed that the mutual separation of Er/Tm is significantly promoted with the separation coefficient of 2.89 during the non-equilibrium extraction with the addition of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid(DTPA).The extraction sequence of Tm,Er and Y can be controlled as Tm>Y>Er,thus Y can be selectively enriched during the process of separation of Er and Tm,Such a sequence is subject to the controllable dissociation rates of RE(Ⅲ)-DTPA complexes and extraction abilities of P507 with the three RE(Ⅲ)ions.The dissociation rate is dependent on the stabilities of RE(Ⅲ)-DTPA complexes and follows the sequence ofY(Ⅲ)—DTPA Er>Y to Tm>Y>Er.

Neuroimaging data typically include multiple modalities,such as structural or functional magnetic resonance imaging,dif-fusion tensor imaging,and positron emission tomography,which provide multiple views for observing and analyzing the brain.To lever-age the complementary representations of different modalities,multimodal fusion is consequently needed to dig out both inter-modality and intra-modality information.With the exploited rich information,it is becoming popular to combine multiple modality data to ex-plore the structural and functional characteristics of the brain in both health and disease status.In this paper,we first review a wide spectrum of advanced machine learning methodologies for fusing multimodal brain imaging data,broadly categorized into unsupervised and supervised learning strategies.Followed by this,some representative applications are discussed,including how they help to under-stand the brain arealization,how they improve the prediction of behavioral phenotypes and brain aging,and how they accelerate the biomarker exploration of brain diseases.Finally,we discuss some exciting emerging trends and important future directions.Collectively,we intend to offer a comprehensive overview of brain imaging fusion methods and their successful applications,along with the chal-lenges imposed by multi-scale and big data,which arises an urgent demand on developing new models and platforms.
