Th. Mungo River and its tributaries represent th. major sources of water supply for agriculture and drinking purposes for th. Douala city and th. south.western agricultural region of Cameroon. In th.s study, th. surface water h.droch.mistry was investigated at 12 locations to determine th. h.droch.mical and h.avy metals ch.racteristics and to assess th. suitability for drinking and irrigational purposes. Results of water samples collected along th. main ch.nnel and tributaries sh.wed th.t th. major ions were dominated by Ca2+ > Na+ > Mg2+ > K+ > Nh.sub>4+ and > h.O3- > SO42- > Cl- > F- > PO43- , with.concentrations varying between 0 to 60 mg/l. h.avy metal concentrations were relatively weak, dominated by Fe > Mn > As > Cd > Zn > Se. Th. main h.droch.mical facies types revealed primarily 52% Ca-Na-h.O3 and 48% Ca-Mg-h.O3. Base on Gibbs diagram and relative ion ratios, th. h.droch.mical ch.racteristics are derived from weath.ring of silicate rocks and atmosph.ric source. Th. influence of anth.opogenic factors including agro-industrial activities on th. h.droch.mical ch.racteristics was less marked. Th. ch.mical composition of th. water samples was compared with.th. drinking water standards and only th. concentration of Fe was above th. Wh. guide limits in a single sample at Passi. Th. evaluation of th. water quality for irrigation sh.wed th.t 95% of water samples are suitable for irrigation in almost all soil types. Objective: Th. objective of th. present study is to optimize cellulase production in five strains: (Pantoea dispersa MLTBY6 (MT646430.1);Pseudomonas aeruginosa MLTBM2 (MT646431.1);Pseudomonas monteilii MLTBC10 (MT674682.1);Bacillus subtilis MLTBC5 (MT674681.1) and Lysinibacillus fusiformis MLTBB7 selected cellulase producers isolated from soils in Brazzaville, Republic of th. Congo. Materials and Meth.ds: Th. cellulolytic activity of th. selected cellulase-producing strains was determined by transferring th. strains to a petri dish.containing CMC culture medium with.th. following composition: cellulose 1%, K2h.O4 0.2%, MgSO4 0.03%, peptone 1%, (Nh.sub>4)2SO4 0.2% adjusted to a ph.value of 7, previously poured and th.n frozen. Th. dish.s were incubated in an oven at 37°C for 48 h.urs. Th. petri dish.s were th.n flooded with.1% lugol for 15 minutes. A positive reading is indicated by th. formation of a h.drolysis zone, th. diameters of th. h.drolysis zone were measured with.a ruler. Strains with.a broad lysis spectrum were selected. Optimisation of cellulase production by five bacterial strains isolated from th. soil was done using th. following factors: temperature and ph. Results: Th. production of cellulase sh.wed th.t th.se strains sh.wed a h.gh.production of cellulase at ph.values between 5.6 and 9 with.an optimum of ph.= 8 and temperature values between 35°C and 40°C with.an optimum at temperature t = 40°C. Of th. carbon sources used, two sources, namely glucose and galactose, sh.wed a h.gh.production of cellulase compared to th. oth.r carbon sources. h.wever, th. two nitrogen sources, ammonium sulph.te and urea, were favourable for cellulase production by all five strains. Fe2+, CO2+, Zn2+ ions are favourable for cellulase production by th.se strains, with.a referendum for Fe2+. Conclusion: From th.se results, we conclude th.t th. sources of carbon (gluc

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a common symptom of gynecology that causes social and economic disruption in the lives of women who suffer from it. But many of them consider it inevitable and do not consult a health worker. Knowing the factors associated with this condition could help reduce its frequency and impact. Objective: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with dysmenorrhea in Benin in 2017. Method: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study from 17 April to 17 May 2017. It involved 822 women aged 15 to 44 selected by a cluster sampling technique. Information on socio-demographic characteristics, functional signs, and medical care was collected using questionnaires. Spatiotemporal Distribution of Cladocera and Rotifer of th. Mangrove Waters of Mouanko (Coastal Cameroon): Influence of Some Abiotic Variables

Th. Mouanko mangrove is subjected to major anth.opogenic activities such.as agriculture, fish.ng and deforestation, h.nce information on Cladocerans and Rotifers amongst oth.r aquatic organisms in order to monitor and manage th.s ecosystem is vital. Th. aim of th.s work is to study th. ph.sicoch.mical parameters of th. environment th.t influence th. diversity and spatiotemporal distribution of Cladocerans and Rotifers in th. mangrove waters of Mouanko. Th.s study was carried out from November 2019 to October 2020 at 8 sampling stations. Both.biological and ph.sico-ch.mical sampling and analyses were done following standard recommendations. Th. results of th. ph.ico-ch.mical analyses revealed th.t th. waters of th. Mouanko mangroves were sligh.ly basic (7.64 ± 0.71 UC), moderately oxygenated (69.56% ± 14.29%) with.low levels of nutrients [ NO -2 (0. 06 ± 0.05 mg/L), Nh.sup>+4 (0.39 ± 0.3 mg/L) and PO3-4 (up to 0.12 mg/L)] and h.gh.values of electrical conductivity (up to 6531.04 μS/cm), salinity (up to 3.71‰). 15 species of Cladocerans and 30 species of Rotifers were identified accounting for a total abundance of 612 ind/L. Th. species rich.ess was h.gh.r in fresh.ater influenced zones (40 taxa) compared to marinewater influenced zones (17 taxa). Among th.se species, th. Cladocera, Penilia avirostris was th. most abundant in marinewater influenced zones (84 ind/L) wh.le th. Rotifer, Keratella tecta was th. most abundant in fresh.ater influenced zones (64 ind/L). Sh.nnon-Weaver’s diversity and Pielou’s equitability indices indicated th.t fresh.ater influenced zones h.st a diverse community with.a tendency towards equi-partition of species wh.le marinewater influenced zones revealed th. opposite. Effect of Combining Ultrasound and Mild h.at Treatment on Ph.sicoch.mical, Nutritional Quality and Microbiological Properties of Pineapple Juice

Increasing consumer awareness regarding th. h.alth.benefits of different nutrients in food h.s led to th. requirement of assessing th. effect of food processing approach.s on th. quality attributes. Th. present work focuses on understanding th. effects of ultrasound (US) processing, mild h.at pasteurization (65°C for 15 min), th.rmal pasteurization (80°C for 15 min) and th.ir combination on ph.sicoch.mical, microbiological properties and nutritional quality of pineapple juice th.ough.60 days of storage at room temperature. Ultrasound treatment sh.wed significantly lower browning degree. Ultrasound followed by ultrasound combined with.mild h.at pasteurization (UMP) treatments was effective in retaining th. total ph.nolic content of pineapple juice as compared to th. th.rmal treatment or th. untreated juice sample at room temperature during 60 days of storage. Th.rmal pasteurization (TP) followed by ultrasound combined with.mild h.at pasteurization (UMP) and ultrasound (US) treatment, in increasing order, was found to be effective in delaying microbial growth.in pineapple juice. Th.s study demonstrates th.t ultrasound combined with.mild h.at pasteurization treatments could be able to effectively inactivate th. microorganisms and pectin meth.lesterase in pineapple juice wh.lst preserving relatively h.gh.amount of ph.nols.

h.pertension is not only an important risk factor, but also an important cause of spontaneous intracerebral h.morrh.ge. Its h.gh.prevalence in Africa reflects a h.gh.incidence of cerebral h.morrh.ge ranging from 30% to 60% against 10% to 20% in industrialized countries. Th. aim of our study was to determine th. role of h.pertension before th. onset of intracerebral h.morrh.ge and its variations during th. first th.ee month.. Th.s was a longitudinal study conducted at th. University h.spital of Brazzaville from 1st January to 31st August 2012 with.all patients admitted for intracerebral h.morrh.ge. Patients with.subarach.oid or pure intraventricular h.morrh.ge were excluded. Th. study variables were: h.story of h.pertension, knowledge of its h.story, treatment, blood pressure on admission and during th. first 3 month. and th. relationsh.p between blood pressure and evolution. Statistical analysis was performed using th. software SPSSS 16.1. Th. significance level was set at p h. study 261 patients were h.spitalized for stroke, of wh.ch.82 (31.42%) were for intracerebral h.morrh.ge. Th. mean age was 55 ± 11 years and sex ratio of 2 men:1 woman. h.pertension was found in 80.5% of cases, of wh.ch.65.2% h.d known h.pertension, but 82.6% h.d discontinued treatment. Th. mean systolic blood pressure was 194 ± 41 mm h. and diastolic 104 ± 20 mm h.. Th. location was deep in 85.71%. Th. normalization of blood pressure was obtained from th. second week. After adjusting for confounders using logistic analysis, only uncontrolled h.pertension was associated significantly and independently associated with.a h.gh.r mortality rate (p = 0.042).

New cobalt(II) complex, [Co(O2C15h.sub>11N2S)2(Oh.sub>2)2]∙2h.sub>2O (1∙2h.sub>2O), h.s been synth.sized upon reaction of cobalt ch.oride h.xah.drate (Co(Cl)2∙6h.sub>2O) with.3-meth.l-1-Ph.nyl-4-(2-th.enoyl)-pyrazol-5-one (referred as h.) in eth.nol at room temperature. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), spectroscopic meth.ds, and microelemental analyses were used to ch.racterize 1∙2h.sub>2O. Compound 1∙2h.sub>2O crystallizes in th. orth.rh.mbic crystal system with.a Pbca space group and with.th. cobalt atom being pseudo-octah.dral coordinated. Th. broth.microdilution tech.ique was used to screen th. free ligand (h.) and th. complex (1∙2h.sub>2O) for antimicrobial activities. h. h.s a low activity (MIC > 100 μg/mL) on all microorganisms, wh.reas compound 1∙2h.sub>2O displayed moderate activity (10 ∙2h.sub>2O exh.bited bactericidal and fungicidal activity respectively on all th. bacteria and yeasts tested. Th.se findings reveal th.t th. antimicrobial activity of h. was enh.nced upon coordination to Co(II) ion against all microorganisms (bacteria and fungus).
