Cabbage root fly （Delia radicum L.） control represents a major challenge in brassica production, therefore different management strategies for its control were tested in conventionally managed open field cauliflower production. Strategies included treatments with low-risk methods such as nitrogen lime, the insecticide spinosad and the Beauveria bassiana ATCC 74040-based biopesticide Naturalis. Their effects were compared with treatments based on nonformulated fungal species Metarhizium brunneum, B. bassiana, Clonostachys solani, Trichoderma atroviride, T. koningiopsis, and T. gamsii and commercial insecticides λ-cyhalothrin and thiamethoxam. Spinosad and thiamethoxam were pipetted to individual plants before transplanting; λ-cyhalothrin was sprayed after transplanting; nitrogen lime was applied at first hoeing. Nonformulated fimgi were delivered onto cauliflower plantlets＇ roots as a single pretransplantation inoculation. The cabbage root fly population dynamics exhibited a strong spatiotemporal variation. The lowest number of cabbage root fly pupae recovered from cauliflower roots in the field experiments was recorded in plants treated with spinosad （significant reduction）, followed by Naturalis and one of the tested M. brunneurn strains （nonsignificant reduction）. Significantly more pupae were counted in the nitrogen lime treatment. The field experiments showed that a single drench of cauliflower plantlets with spinosad offered consistent and enduring cabbage root fly control. Naturalis and nonformulated fungal isolates did not decrease cabbage root fly pressure significantly, apparently due to lack of statistical power. The implications of the substantial intra- and inter-annual pest pressure variation and the benefits of using single plant treatments are discussed, and recommendations for improvement of rhizosphere-competence utilizing biological control strategies provided.

Cretaceous tectonic evolution of the Neo-Tethys in Central Iran:Evidence from petrology and age of the Nain-Ashin ophiolitic basalts

The Nain and Ashin ophiolites consist of Mesozoic melange units that were emplaced in the Late Cretaceous onto the continental basement of the Central-East Iran microcontinent(CEIM).They largely consist of serpentinized peridotites slices;nonetheless,minor tectonic slices of sheeted dykes and pillow lavas-locally stratigraphically associated with radiolarian cherts-can be found in these ophiolitic melanges.Based on their whole rock geochemistry and mineral chemistry,these rocks can be divided into two geochemical groups.The sheeted dykes and most of the pillow lavas show island arc tholeiitic(IAT)affinity,whereas a few pillow lavas from the Nain ophiolites show calc-alkaline(CA)affinity.Petrogenetic modeling based on trace elements composition indicates that both IAT and CA rocks derived from partial melting of depleted mantle sources that underwent enrichment in subduction-derived components prior to melting.Petrogenetic modeling shows that these components were represented by pure aqueous fluids,or sediment melts,or a combination of both,suggesting that the studied rocks were formed in an arc-forearc tectonic setting.Our new biostratigraphic data indicate this arc-forearc setting was active in the Early Cretaceous.Previous tectonic interpretations suggested that the Nain ophiolites formed,in a Late Cretaceous backarc basin located in the south of the CEIM(the so-called Nain-Baft basin).However,recent studies showed that the CEIM underwent a counter-clockwise rotation in the Cenozoic,which displaced the Nain and Ashin ophiolites in their present day position from an original northeastward location.This evidence combined with our new data and a comparison of the chemical features of volcanic rocks from different ophiolites around the CEIM allow us to suggest that the Nain-Ashin volcanic rocks and dykes were formed in a volcanic arc that developed on the northern margin of the CEIM during the Early Cretaceous in association with the subduction,below the CEIM,of a Neo-Tethys oceanic branch that was existing between

In the paper, the authors present their experience and results related to the design and management of the on-line course "Development of e-learning resources based on the EUCIP (The European Certification of Informatics Professionals) certification scheme", which was organized under the auspices of the international Leonardo da Vinci project Sloop2desc (Sharing learning objects in an open perspective for development of European skills and competences). The course was primarily aimed at teachers of informatics. Out of 64 participants that applied for the course, slightly less than 50% managed to reach the last course module. In line with other research, the authors" experience showed that in order to minimize participants" drop-out rate, a sustained communication flow between tutors and participants was necessary and specific assignments had to be provided by the tutors, along with guidance. The authors expect the participants who successfully finished the on-line course to become a some kind of ambassadors for the introduction of the EUCIP scheme in Slovenia.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a new method for patients with severe aortic stenosis at high surgical risk, such as previous cardiac surgery. The presence of mechanical mitral prosthesis might complicate TAVI because of possible interference between both prostheses. Some reports have already demonstrated the feasibility of TAVI in such patients. Case Reports: We report 2 patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis who had prior mitral valve replacement that successfully underwent TAVI with Edwards Sapien and CoreValve aortic prosthesis, re- spectively. Computed tomographic angiography (CTA) was useful for the assessment of the distance between both aor- tic and mitral prosthesis annuli. Transesophageal echocardiography was crucial for precise positioning of TAV. There were no special technical tips besides precise positioning of the valve prosthesis. In case of Core Valve the goal was the positioning at “zero point” and in case of Edwards Sapien valve a “half-on-half” position according to natural aortic valve. We observed no deformation or dysfunction of aortic and mitral prosthesis in any of the patients. Balloon valvu- loplasty prior to implantation helps to observe the mutual effect of the new aortic valve and pre-existent mitral prosthe- sis. Conclusions: We conclude that TAVI can be safely and successfully performed in patients with mechanical mitral prosthesis carefully considering the altered anatomical conditions. Skillfulness and TAVI experience of the operators should not be neglected.
