CTD temperature, salinity and ADCP current data, which were observed by R/V Shiyan No. 3.during the intensive observational period (IOP) of the south China {2. monsoon experiment (SCSMEX), have been analyzed. Some study results from observations at a mooring station located at the vicinity of continental slope off the south of Dongsha Islands are shown. The dynamic and thermody namic structures as wall as their changes are analyzed to describe the upper-ocean variation in the northern south China {2. during the summer monsoon onset and maintaining periods. The response of near surface water temperature, salinity and current to local {2. surface winds is also discussed.

The low-velocity layer (LVL), closely related with tectonic activities and dynamic settings, has always been a hot topic in the deep crustal structure studies. The deep seismic (OBS/OBH) and onshore-offshore experiments have been extensively implemented in the northern south China sea (SCS) since the 1990s. Six seismic profiles were finished on the northern margin of SCS by domestic and international cooperations. The features of crustal structures were revealed and five velocity-inversion layers were discovered. Among them three LVLs with {2.0—{2. 5 km·s-1 velocity are located in the sedimentary structure (2.0—6.0 km in depth and 2.0—4. 6 km in thickness) of the Yinggehai Basin and Pearl River Mouth Basin. They were identified by the reflective and refractive phases for their shallow depth. The other two LVLs with 5.5—6.0 km·s-1 velocity generally existed in the middle crust (7.0—18.0 km in depth) with an about 2.5—6.0 km thickness in the transitional crustal structure of the northeastern and northwestern SCS. They were detected by the refractive phase from their overlain and underlying layers. We explored the possible tectonic formation mechanisms combining with previously reported results, which provided evidence for the formation and evolution of SCS.

Ocean current data for nearly 3.months in the south China {2. (SCS), combined with the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis wind data, are analyzed. The results indicate that the wind en-ergy enters the upper mixed layer in a wide continuous frequency band. In addition, the interac-tion between the low-frequency wind anomaly and the low-frequency current anomaly is the most ‘effective’ way for the energy input from the wind to the upper ocean. However, only the inertial and the near inertial energy propagate downwards through the upper mixed layer. The down-ward-propagating energy is distributed into the barotropic currents, the baroclinic currents and each mode of the baroclinic currents following the normal distributions. The energy change ratios between the barotropic motion to the baroclinic motion induced by the wind present a normal distribution of N (0.02.2. 0.3.47). The energy change ratios of the first 4 baroclinic modes to the whole baroclinic currents also follow the normal distributions. The first baroclinic mode follows N (0.2.2., 0.1872., the second N (0.1979, 0.1504), the third N (0.13.1, 0.163.), and the fourth N (0.0650, 0.1540), respectively.

More than 50% of the typhoons landing in China have landed on the southeast coast, where they have caused great pressure on the coastal environment. seagrass, one of the most important con- stituents of coastal ecosystems, is also greatly affected by typhoons. In order to clarify how seagrass distribution variation is affected by typhoons in coastal areas in southeast China, data of Typhoons Dawei and Tianying （category 4 and category 2.respectively, which just ran through the southern part of Hainan province） have been studied. In situ observation and satellite remote sensing data （CBERS-China Brazil Earth Resources Satellite） in 2.04 and 2.06 were used to retrieve seagrass distribution in Xincun Bay, Hainan province. In situ observations showed that leaf length, stem biomass and above ground biomass on average showed evidence of reduction after Typhoons Tiany- ing and Dawei. However, seagrass density showed no evidence of reduction after typhoon Tianying and Dawei passed by and increased rapidly in January 2.06. From results of satellite remote sensing data, seagrass distribution can be detected with high accuracy, and the area of seagrass distribution on the south coast of Xincun Bay in 2.06 after the typhoon passed by was smaller than that in 2.04 in region A and B. However, in region C, area of seagrass coverage under 2.% increased. These results demonstrated that typhoons Tianying and Dawei damaged seagrass bed and helped seagrass to get rid of aged and dead leaves, and this correspondingly facilitated seagrass growth.

The condensates are generally characterized by high maturity,low concentration of steranes and ter-panes biomarkers and low content of non-hydrocarbon fraction. In this case commonly used steranes,terpanes and carbazoles parameters cannot be effectively applied in the reservoir-filling tracing. The hydrogen bond formed by sulfur atom in the dibenzothiophenes (DBTs) results in molecule adsorption and fractionation during oil migration in reservoir. Like carbazoles,total DBTs content decreases with the increasing of oil migration distance. Therefore,a new parameter——total DBTs content is proposed to be used to trace the oil migration orientation and filling pathway. In present study,total DBTs con-tents of condensates and light oils are obtained by adding internal standard——eight deuterium atoms substituted DBT during Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry analysis of aromatic fraction. Except for a few samples with much lower content of non-hydrocarbon fraction,the total DBTs content shows a fine positive correlation with that of carbazoles. Large errors can be caused in the process of pyrrolic nitrogen compounds separation. The application of this new parameter in the Fushan Depression of Beibu Gulf Basin,south China sea indicates that this parameter is a reliable one to trace filling pathway in condensate reservoirs. Combined with other DBTs-related parameters,such as 4-/1-methydibenzo-thiophene and 2.4-/1,4-dimethyldibenzothiophene,oil migration orientation and filling pathway of the Fushan Depression was determined. The accumulations of Huachang oil field in the Fushan Depres-sion are mainly migrated and charged from northeast to southeast along the Huachang uplift. It can be predicated that the light oil and condensates in the Huachang oil field should be sourced from the source kitchen at the Bailian Sag. It shows that total DBTs content is an effective parameter to tracing oil migration orientation and filling pathway.

It is well known that marine sponges harbor large numbers of bacteria,some of which have been proved to be *** diversity of bacteria in marine sponges distributed along the coast of south China sea has been previously studied but that of bacteria in sponges inhabiting the open sea has been rarely *** this report,the diversity of bacteria associated with the marine sponge Agelas robusta from a remote coral reef in the south China sea was documented employing 16S rDNA library construction,amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis（ARDRA） and phylogenetic analysis.A total of 3. phylotypes were finally categorized in nine phyla including Cyanobacteria,proteobacteria,Chloroflexi,Firmicutes,Actinobacteria,Acidobacteria,Planctomycetes,Bacteroidetes and *** dominant phylum was proteobacteria whereas the dominant genus was Synechococcus in *** spongespecific bacteria were also found in the bacteria population,but the proportion（5 OTUs/3. OTUs） was much lower than other *** study reveals the phylogenetic diversity of bacteria in *** and confirms the presence of some sponge-specific bacteria in the south China *** the diversity of sponge-associated bacteria in China assists to exploit the bacteria resources for biotechnology.

Using the collected 43. heat flow values, we estimated the bases of methane hydrate stability zone （BHSZ）, in northern south China {2. （NSCS）. Through comparing BHSZs with the depths of bottom simulating reflectors （BSRs）, in Shenhu Area （SA）, we found that there are big differences between them. In the north of SA, where the water depth is shallow, many slumps developed and the sedimentation rate is high, it appears great negative difference （as large as -192.）. However, to the southeast of SA, where the water depth is deeper, sedimentation rate is relatively low and uplift basement topography exists, it changes to positive difference （as large as ＋45%）. The differences change so great, which haven＇t been observed in other places of the world. After considering the errors from the process of heat flow measurement, the BSR depth, the relationship of thermal conductivity with the sediments depth, and the fluid flow activities, we conclude that the difference should be not caused by these errors. Such big disagreement may be due to the misunderstanding of BSR. The deviant ＂BSRs＂ could represent the paleo-BSRs or just gas-bearing sediment layers, such as unconformities or the specific strata where have different permeability, which are not hydraterelated BSRs.

In May of 2.07,the second generation selected （SS） and control （SC） groups of pearl oyster Pinctada martensii were established by selecting 10% breeders with the largest and mean shell length,respectively,from the first generation selected *** performance of the SS and SC groups were compared on the basis of measurement data at Days 8,18,60,95,195 and *** Day 3.5,100 individuals （60.0–75.0 mm at shell length） were sampled from each group and then subjected to the experiment where physiological parameters such as filtrate rate,oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion were measured at 15,2.,2. and 3.°*** results show that the SS group had significantly larger mean shell length and shell height than the SC group at Days 8,18,60,95,195 and 3.5 （P 0.05）.The genetic gains at different ages varied from 6.0% to 17.0% for shell length and 5.7% to 14.6% for shell height,*** 15,2.,2. and 3. ° C,the SS groups had significantly larger filtrate rate than the SC group （P 0.05）.At 15 and 2. °C,the differences in oxygen consumption rate between the SS and SC groups were not significant （P 0.05）.At 2. and 3. °C,however,the oxygen consumption rate of the SS group was significantly larger than the SC group （P 0.05）.At 15,2.,2. and 3. °C,there were no significant differences in ammonia excretion rate between the SS and SC groups （P 0.05）.The present results indicate that there existed considerable genetic variability in the base population and a further selection could be likely *** selection for faster growth might produce animals that had higher intake of metabolizable energy by virtue of faster filtrating behavior.

Cenxi Permian basalts are the late Palaeozoic island-arc type basalts first found in south China. REE and trace element characteristics and distribution patterns show that this volcanic formation, which has been isotopically dated at 2.1 MaB.P. by the 3.Ar/ 40Ar method, is of an active continental marginal island arc type, and that the tectonic environment at that time was an island-arc marginal {2. or minor ocean basin related with the paleo-Tethyan tectonic belt in western guangdong-eastern Guangxi.
