Field flow fractionation (FFF) is a family of separation techniques, which is applicable to characterization of various particulate materials of different nature. In this work, high polydisperse graphite sample was characterized and purified by a relatively new method on separation science: Gravitational field flow fractionation (GFFF). Results of the GFFF technique were compared to the laser particle size analyzer’s ones. From GFFF results, two sub-populations with mean diameters calculated at 21.3 and 8.4 ?m, were distinguished and characterized. It has been shown that the combination of FFF technique and particle size analyzer can be employed for investigation of the particles size and shape evolution of a polydisperse powder during milling process.

Pearlescent pigments are prepared mainly via coating of mica platelets or mica-titania with some metal oxides of high refractive indexes. In this paper, unsupported mica-titania was used as a support to produce a bronze pearlescent pigment. The bronze color was obtained by deposition of Fe2O3 on the surface of the unsupported mica-titania and the results were compared to those of the mica-titania flakes. X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope and spectral reflectance were used for characterization of the products. Results showed that the unsupported mica-titania was successfully prepared by acid treatment. Furthermore, the bronze pigments by using unsupported mica-titania had better pearlescent properties, defined as the variation of h and L* at different viewing angles. Influence of monovalent alkaline metal cations on binder-free nano-zeolite X inpara-xylene separation

The adsorption process was studied for separating para-xylene from xylene mixture on modified nano-zeolite X in a breakthrough system. Nano-zeolitic adsorbent with different ratios of Si O2/Al2O3 was synthesized through hydrothermal process and ion-exchanged with alkaline metal cations like lithium, sodium and potassium. The product was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), nitrogen adsorption,transform electron microscopy(TEM) and in situ Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy. The influence of nano-zeolite water content and desorbent type on the selectivity of para-xylene toward other C8 aromatic isomers was studied. The optimization of adsorption process was also investigated under variable operation conditions. The isotherm for each isomer of C8 aromatics and the desorbents possess the adsorption characteristics of Langmuir type. The selectivity factor of para-xylene relative to each of meta-xylene, ortho-xylene and ethylbenzene under the optimum conditions obtained to be 5.36, 2.43 and 3.22, in the order given.

This paper is to achieve a gamma-ray source with the lowest rate of buildup factor, which is of great importance in medical, industrial and agricultural *** flux buildup factor of gamma rays is calculated by the MCNP code for point, linear, surface and volume sources with shield layers of lead, iron and aluminum. The results show that for the high Z shielding material, the flux buildup factor of coaxial cylindrical sources is the lowest(1.6–2.3)of all sources, while for low Z shielding materials, the coaxial disk surface sources have smaller buildup factor(1.45–1.6).

Stress analysis of cylindrical grid-stiffened composite shells was conducted under transverse loading,pure bending,torsion and axial compression under clamped-free boundary *** strain gauges were employed to measure the strains in transverse loading case to validate the finite element analysis which was conducted using ANSYS *** agreement was obtained between the two *** was observed that stiffening the composite shell with helical ribs decreased the average equivalent Von Mises stress on the *** reduction of the stress seemed to be higher in the intersection of two *** was also seen that the stress reduction ratio was higher when the structure was under bending compared to torsion and axial *** reduction ratio was approximately 75% in pure bending in the intersection point of the ribs,while it was approximately 25% in ***,it is concluded that the presence of the ribs is more effective under *** analysis was done using Tsai-Wu *** ribs were observed to result in maximum and minimum increase in the failure load of the structure under transverse bending and torsional loading,respectively.

We study the existence of positive solutions of a population model with diffusion of the form {-△pu=aup-1-f（u）-c/ua,x∈Ω,u=0,x∈Ω where △p denotes the p-Laplacian operator defined by △pz =div（｜z｜P-2z）, p 〉 1, Ω is a bounded domain of RN with smooth boundary, α∈ C （0, 1）, a and e are positive constants. Here f ： [0, ∞） → R is a continuous function. This model arises in the studies of population biology of one species with u representing the concentration of the species. We discuss the existence of positive solution when f satisfies certain additional conditions. We use the method of sub- and super-solutions to establish our results.

The physicochemical properties and color of dried seed mucilage (gums) depend on thecondition and method of drying. So, in this study, the effects of infrared (IR) dryer systemparameters such as IR power (150, 250, and 375 W), distance of mucilage from lamp surface(4, 8, and 12 cm), mucilage thickness (0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 cm) on drying kinetics and colorindexes (L*a*b*) of basil seed mucilage (BSM) were examined in an IR dryer system. IR dry-ing kinetic of BSM was modeled using mathematical approach. Thus, experimental mois-ture ratio data were fitted to 8 various empirical models. It was found that Page model hasthe best fit to show the kinetic behavior and acceptably described the IR drying behavior ofBSM with the highest correlation coefficient values and the lowest standard error *** average effective moisture diffusivity (Deff) increased from 1.69×10^(-9)to 9.21×10^(-9)m^(2)/s with increasing lamp power from 150 W to 375 W, while it was decreased from7.93×10^(-9)to 2.65×10^(-9)m^(2)/s and 7.81×10^(-9)to 1.82×10^(-9)m^(2)/s with increasing the dis-tance of mucilage from 4 to 12 cm and the reduction of mucilage thickness from 1.5 to0.5 cm, respectively. The increasing in IR radiation power has a positive influence on thelightness (increasing L* index) of dried BSM and it reduced color changes index (DE) from13.04 to 11.51. The results showed that IR drying method has great industrial potential insaving processing time as well as energy with better maintenance of color and quality ofdried BSM.

Knowledge of petroleum fluid properties is crucial for the study of reservoirs and their development. Estimation of reserves in an oil reservoir or determination of its performance and economics requires a good knowledge of the fluid physical properties. Bubble point pressure, gas solubility and viscosity of oils are the most important parameters in use for petroleum and chemical engineers. In this study a simple-to-use, straight-forward mathematical model was correlated on a set of 94 crude oil data. Three correlations were achieved based on an exponential regression, which were different from conventional empirical correlations, and were evaluated against 12 laboratory data other than those used for the regression. It is concluded that the new exponential equation is of higher precision and accuracy than the conventional correlations and is a more convenient mathematical formulation.
