Probing and understanding interaction of Eu(Ⅲ)withγ-alumina in presenceof malonic acid

Radionuclide migration in aquatic environment is influenced by its sorption onto colloids/mineral oxides and the presence of organic complexing *** a view to understand the sorption of trivalent actinides by mineral oxides in presence of organic acid,in the present study,Eu(Ⅲ),malonic acid(MA)andγ-alumina are considered as representatives of trivalent actinides,low molecular weight natural occurring organic acid and aluminol sites,*** influence of MA on sorption of Eu(Ⅲ)byγ-alumina was elucidated by batch sorption,spectroscopic techniques and surface complexation modeling,for the first *** Total Reflection-Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopic studies of MA sorbed onγ-alumina revealed the presence of two inner-sphere surface *** sorption for binary(alumina-Eu(Ⅲ))and ternary(alumina-Eu(Ⅲ)-MA)systems were investigated as a function of p H,Eu(Ⅲ)concentration and sequential addition of Eu(Ⅲ)/*** p H edge for Eu(Ⅲ)sorption shifts to higher p H with increasing Eu(Ⅲ)*** ternary systems,Eu(Ⅲ)sorption is significantly enhanced at p H<***(Ⅲ)speciation onγ-alumina is independent of addition sequence of Eu(Ⅲ)/*** resolved fluorescence spectroscopy of Eu(Ⅲ)sorbed onγ-alumina exhibited two surface species,≡XOEu^2+and(≡YO)2 Eu^(+).The enhancement in I 616/I 592 and lifetime for ternary systems,as compared to binary system,at low p H,indicates the participation of Eu-MA complexes in the formation of surface species in ternary *** diffuse layer model has been employed to successfully model the experimental sorption profiles of binary and ternary systems,using code FITEQL 4.0,by considering the surface species identified by spectroscopic techniques.

The present research work attempted to delineate and characterize the reservoir facies from the Dawson Canyon Formation in the Penobscot field,Scotian *** integrated study of instantaneous frequency,P-impedance,volume of clay and neutron-porosity attributes,and structural framework was done to unravel the Late Cretaceous depositional system and reservoir facies distribution patterns within the study *** strikes were found in the EW and NEE-SWW directions indicating the dominant course of tectonic activities during the Late Cretaceous period in the region.P-impedance was estimated using model-based seismic *** properties such as the neutron porosity(NPHI)and volume of clay(VCL)were estimated using the multilayer perceptron neural network with high ***,a combination of low instantaneous frequency(15-30 Hz),moderate to high impedance(7000-9500 gm/cc*m/s),low neutron porosity(27%-40%)and low volume of clay(40%-60%),suggests fair-to-good sandstone development in the Dawson Canyon *** calibration with the welllog data,it is found that further lowering in these attribute responses signifies the clean sandstone facies possibly containing *** present study suggests that the shale lithofacies dominates the Late Cretaceous deposition(Dawson Canyon Formation)in the Penobscot field,Scotian *** faults and overlying shale facies provide structural and stratigraphic seals and act as a suitable hydrocarbon entrapment mechanism in the Dawson Canyon Formation's *** present research advocates the integrated analysis of multi-attributes estimated using different methods to minimize the risk involved in hydrocarbon exploration.

Effect of arc-current and spray distance on elastic modulus and fracture toughness of plasma-sprayed chromium oxide coatings

In this experimental study, chromium oxide powder was sprayed on a low-carbon steel substrate using the atmospheric plasma spray process. The current and standoff distances(SODs) were varied to study their effect on the fracture toughness of the coatings. Theoretically, as the arc current increases, the melting of the ceramic oxide should increase and this in turn should lead to the formation of a dense coating. However,it was observed that if the arc power is too high and because the particle size of the powder is small(approximately 30 μm), the particles tend to fly away from the plasma core. Similarly, an appropriate SOD should provide the particles with more melting time, thus resulting in a dense coating. On the other hand, a larger SOD leads to the solidification of the molten particles before the droplets can reach the substrate. All these effects may lead to substantial variation in the fracture toughness of the coating. The present paper attempts to correlate the plasma spraying parameters and microstructure of the coating with the fracture toughness and other primary coating properties.

Assessment of the fraction of bed load concentration towards the sediment transport of a monsoon-dominated river basin of Eastern India

Given the challenges of re-creating complex bed load(BL)transport processes in rivers,models are preferred over gathering and examining field *** highlight of the present research is to develop an approach to determine the ungauged bed load concentration(BLC_(u))utilizing the measured suspended sediment concentration(SSC)and hydraulic variables of the last four decades for the Mahanadi River *** technique employs shear stress and SSC equations for turbulent open channel ***,the predicted BLC_(u)is correlated with SSC using a power relation to estimate BLC_(u)on the river and ***,different BL functions(BLF)efficiency is assessed across *** model predicted BLC_(u)is comparable with the published data for sandy rivers and falls within±20%.Outliers in hydraulic and sedimentological statistics significantly influence estimating the BL fraction apart from higher relative ratios and catchment *** constants of power functions are physically linked to sediment transport configuration,mechanism,and inflow to the *** stream power-based BLF best predicts the BL transport,followed by shear stress and unit discharge *** disparity in the estimation of BLC_(u)results from station-specific physical factors,sampling data dispersion,and associated uncertainties.

Visceral leishmaniasis(VL)is a neglected tropical disease,and this review has summarized the current treatment scenario and its *** also highlights alternative approaches used by research groups in India and around the world to develop cutting-edge and potent anti-leishmanial *** though numerous medications could be utilized to treat VL,the limitations of current treatments including their toxicity,cost,route of administration,and duration of doses,have contributed to the emergence of *** therapy might be a better option due to its shorter duration,easier route of administration,and ability to extend the lifespan of individual ***,there is a risk of not delivering both the drugs to the target site together,which can be overcome by the liposomal entrapment of those drugs and at a time knock an opportunity to reduce the dosage of amphotericin B if the combination drug provides a synergistic effect with ***,this review presents a novel strategy to fight against VL by introducing dual drug-loaded liposomes.

On U-orthodox semigroups

As a generalization of an orthodox semigroup in the class of regular semigroups, a type W semigroup was first investigated by El-Qallali and Fountain. As an analogy of the type W semigroups in the class of abundant semigroups, we introduce the U-orthodox semigroups. It is shown that the maximum congruence μ contained in on U-orthodox semigroups can be determined. As a consequence, we show that a U-orthodox semigroup S can be expressed by the spined product of a Hall semigroup W U and a V-ample semigroup (T,V). This theorem not only generalizes a known result of Hall-Yamada for orthodox semigroups but also generalizes another known result of El-Qallali and Fountain for type W semigroups.

Nonlinear thermomechanical deformation behaviour of P-FGM shallow spherical shell panel

In the present article, the linear and the nonlinear deformation behaviour of functionally graded （FG） spherical shell panel are examined under thermomechanical load. The temperature- dependent effective material properties of FG shell panel are evaluated using Voigt＇s micro-mechanical rule in conjunction with power-law distribution. The nonlinear mathematical model of the FG shell panel is developed based on higher-order shear deformation theory and Green-Lagrange type geometrical nonlinearity. The desired nonlinear governing equation of the FG shell panel is computed using the variational principle. The model is discretised through suitable nonlinear finite element steps and solved using direct iterative method. The convergence and the val- idation behaviour of the present numerical model are performed to show the efficacy of the model. The effect of different parameters on the nonlinear deformation behaviour of FG spherical shell panel is highlighted by solving numerous examples.

The onset of surface-enhanced Raman scattering for single-particle detection of submicroplastics

Microplastics represent an emerging environmental problem worldwide, raising ecological and food safety concerns. Compared to microplastics, there is growing evidence of an even higher abundance of submicro-and nanoplastics in the environment, but a reliable monitoring method for detecting these smaller-sized plastics is lacking. Herein we presented the application of surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS) for this purpose. Particles of polystyrene(PS;600 nm) were used as the probe analyte. Gold nanourchins(Au NU;50 nm),i.e. urchin-shaped nanoparticles with irregular spikes around the core, were used as the SERS-active substrate. The effectiveness of SERS on PS was evaluated at a single-particle level with different numbers of Au NU in order to determine the minimum conditions required for the onset of the SERS effect. Our findings suggest that SERS of a single particle of PS can be induced by as few as 1–5 particles of Au NU, and that the use of excitation wavelength at 785 nm is appropriate to meet the red-shifted surface plasmon resonance of Au NU upon aggregation. These specifications provide additional information for the development of SERS-based tools for detecting plastic particles < 1 μm in food and environmental samples.

Studies associated with validation of folklore and ethnomedicinal claim of utilization of different plant parts of ‘ spiny amaranth’ (Amaranthus spinosus L.) against degenerative diseases with chemical data, particularly the bioactive polyphenolic compounds and associated anti-degenerative properties are scanty and is the purpose of the present investigations. RP-HPLC coupled photodiode assay was employed for the quantification of twenty-one health promoting bioactive polyphenolic antioxidants derived from phenylpropanoid pathway from different plant parts of Amaranthus spinosus L. for validating organoleptic traditional claims as well as current trends in practice of this underutilized medicinal herb. Further, important water-soluble vitamins [vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, B9] present in different plant parts were extracted and estimated through RP-HPLC for validating the claim of their functional food properties. The antioxidant-based functional food property of different plant parts of Amaranthus spinosus were corroborated from the data of in vitro free radical scavenging, metal-chelating, reducing, superoxide radical scavenging, hydroxyl radical scavenging, anti-protein coagulation, anti-lipid peroxidation and antidiabetic properties. When compared, a positive correlation in accumulation of polyphenolic compounds and water-soluble vitamins tested with antioxidant attributes were noticed for different plant parts, strongly substantiating their phytonutrient properties. Taken as a whole, the present work provides data on organ-specific bioavailability of bioactive polyphenolic antioxidant compounds, water soluble B- vitamins and their functional attributes for validating traditional claims as well as existing trends in consumption of this underutilized medicinal vegetable as low-cost natural antioxidant supplement and functional food, which may encourage their effective exploration and utilization.
