Inspired by living organisms,helicoidal structures are becoming increasingly important in replacing the conventional lamination scheme to enhance the toughness,strength,and stiffness of *** helicoidal laminated composites,each layer is rotated by a specific angle with respect to the previous *** the present study,an attempt has been carried out to compare the free vibration and buckling behavior of the double-helicoidal and cross-helicoidal bio-inspired laminated composite plates under thermal *** influence of lamination scheme,aspect ratio,end conditions,thermal conditions,sideto-thickness ratio,and skew angle on the free vibration and buckling behavior of the plate is *** performance of helicoidal laminated composite plates is compared with that of cross-ply and quasi-isotropic *** study reveals that the helicoidal composites outperform the cross-ply and quasi-isotropic *** most cases studied,the cross-helicoidal plate exhibits stiff behavior.

Validation of the Satellite-Derived Rainfall Estimates over the Tibet

Measuring rainfall from space appears to be the only cost effective and viable means in estimating regional precipitation over the Tibet, and the satellite rainfall products are essential to hydrological and agricultural modeling. A long-standing problem in the meteorological and hydrological studies is that there is only a sparse raingauge network representing the spatial distribution of precipitation and its quantity on small scales over the Tibet. Therefore, satellite derived quantitative precipitation estimates are extremely usefill for obtaining rainfall patterns that can be used by hydrological models to produce forecasts of river discharge and to delineate the flood hazard area. In this paper, validation of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration （NOAA） Climate Prediction Center （CPC） RFE （rainfall estimate） 2.0 data was made by using daily rainfall observations at 11 weather stations over different climate zones from southeast to northwest of the Tibet during the rainy season from 1 June to 30 September 2005 and 2006. Analysis on the time series of daily rainfall of RFE-CPC and observed data in different climate zones reveals that the mean correlation coefficients between satellite estimated and observed rainfall is 0.74. Only at Pali and Nielamu stations located in the southern brink of the Tibet along the Himalayan Mountains, are the correlation coefficients less than 0.62. In addition, continuous validations show that the RFE performed well in different climate zones, with considerably low mean error （ME） and root mean square error （RMSE） scores except at Nielamu station along the Himalayan range. Likewise, for the dichotomous validation, at most stations over the Tibet, the probability of detection （POD） values is above 73% while the false alarm rate （FAR） is between 1% and 12%. Overall, NOAA CPC RFE 2.0 products performed well in the estimation and monitoring of rainfall over the Tibet and can be used to analyze the precipitation pattern,

Evaluation of fundus autofluorescence patterns in age-related macular degeneration

AIM： To study the various morphological patterns of fundus autofluorescence （FAF） images in patients with age-related macular degeneration （AMD） in Indian ***： Totally 179 eyes of 104 patients with clinical diagnosis of AMD were recruited into the study. Autofluorescence images were captured using confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope and the patterns of FAF were ***： Of 179 eyes, 27 （15.08%） were early AMD, 58 （32.41%） were intermediate AMD, 94 eyes （52.51%） were late AMD. Of 94 eyes with late AMD, 79 （84.04%） were neovascular AMD and 15 （15.96%） were central geographic atrophy. In eyes with early and intermediate AMD, 9 patterns of FAF were noted. Six patterns （normal, minimal change, focal increased, patchy increased, linear, reticular） were similar to that in the published classification. Two patterns （lacelike and speckled） described in the published classification were not found. Three new patterns （focal hypo-fluorescence, patchy hypo-fluorescence, mixed focal hypo-fluorescence and hyper-fluorescence） were detected. In eyes with neovascular AMD, 6 morphological patterns of FAF were noted. Two patterns （mixed hypo-fluorescence and hyper-fluorescence, central hypo-fluorescence with hyper-fluorescent rim） were similar to that in published classification. Two patterns （normal, near normal or normal background fluorescence in the centre of hypo-fluorescent area） described in the published classification were not found. Four new patterns （minimal change, hypo-fluorescent patch, central hypo-fluorescence with surrounding reticular, bull’s eye） were recognized. In eye with central geographic atrophy 5 morphological patterns were noted and these were similar to that in published ***： Phenotypic differences in the pattern of FAF exist in the study population compared to existing classification systems.

A comparison of simulation versus didactics for teaching ultrasound to Swiss medical students

BACKGROUND: Point-of-care ultrasound is an increasingly common imaging modality that is used in a variety of clinical settings. Understanding how to most effectively teach ultrasound is important to ensure that medical students learn pre-clinical content in a manner that promotes retention and clinical competence. We aim to assess the effectiveness of simulation-based ultrasound education in improving medical student competence in physiology in comparison to a traditional didactic ultrasound curriculum. METHODS: Subjects were given a pre and post-test of physiology questions. Subjects were taught various ultrasound techniques via 7 hours of lectures over two days. The control group received 2 additional hours of practice time while the experimental group received 2 hours of case-based simulations. A physiology post-test was administered to all students to complete the two-day course. RESULTS: Totally 115 Swiss medical students were enrolled in our study. The mean precourse ultrasound exam score was 39.5% for the simulation group and 41.6% for the didactic group (P>0.05). The mean pre-course physiology exam score was 54.1% for the simulation group and 59.3% for the didactic group (P>0.05). The simulation group showed statistically significant improvement on the physiology exam, improving from 54.1% to 75.3%(P<0.01). The didactic group also showed statistically signifi cant improvement on the physiology exam, improving from 59.3% to 70.0%(P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Our data indicates that both simulation curriculum and standard didactic curriculum can be used to teach ultrasound. Simulation based training showed statistically signifi cant improvement in physiology learning when compared to standard didactic curriculum.

Suture-Less Circumcision by Glutaraldehyde Albumin Glue Enhanced Laser Tissue Welding—A Comparative Study

Background: Suture-less circumcision by Feracrylate glue creates a weak and non waterproob bond. Hence, there is wound dehiscence and delayed healing which favor infection in many patients. I am describing a new technique for suture-less circumcision which is free from above limitations. Methods: In my center in the time span of 2 years, I did 51 cases of circumcision with Laser tissue welding technique (group A). Age range was 5 months to 21 years. During the same time span, in 56 patients circumcision was done by Feracrylate glue (group B). The age range was 3 months to 22 years. This group was kept as a control. Patients in both groups were randomly distributed. The technique of circumcision by Laser tissue welding is as follows. Patient is under short GA, the prepuce above the artery forceps is chopped off by scissors and bleeders are coagulated by bipolar cautery. Now, 0.9 ml 40% human albumin is taken in 1 ml syringe and mixed with 0.1 ml of 10% glutaraldehyde solution. The syringe is shaken vigorously to mix both the components. The skin and mucosa of penis are held by tooth forceps and a thin layer of this mixture is layered over it all around. Infrared Laser of 5 watts power and 850 nm illuminated over this bond for 60 seconds to polymerize it. Results: In group A, 2 (3.9%) patients developed partial wound gape, no patient had complete wound gape. 3 (5.88%) patients had grade 2 infections which settled with conservative treatment of oral antibiotics. In group B, 6 (10.71%) patients had partial wound gape and 8 (14.28%) patients had complete wound gapping. 11 (19.64%) patients developed grade 2 and 8 (14.28%) patients grade 3 wound infection. All these 19 patients’ post-operative antibiotics were started and given for 7 - 10 days. The Glutaraldehyde albumin mixture bond is already described in medical literature (Bioglue) for its use to seal coronary anastomosis after CABG operation, to seal sutures of cardiac surgery and for aortic dissection, etc. It is a

公共组织中多次出现影响巨大的操作风险管理失败案例,让人们对公共组织理论中的操作风险管理产生了质疑。这些重复的操作风险失败案例源自于人为操作,属于内部流程和系统,以及外部事件引起的范畴。针对这一问题,本论文分析了创新能力、领导包容行为、感知到的工作团队多样性以及工作控制点因素之间的关系,同时考察这些因素对操作风险管理的影响。本论文采用横断式调查法,对中国大陆公共组织人员进行数据抽样调查。本文的理论假设已通过459个有效案例得到验证。本文发现,创新能力对操作风险管理有正面的影响。领导包容行为和感知到的工作团队多样性的介入进一步加强了操作风险管理。此外,工作控制点对领导包容行为、感知到的工作团队多样性和操作风险管理之间的关系具有正面影响。类似于之前的研究,本论文同样支持公共组织理论通过战略上定位创新型员工在保持高度包容的工作环境里所带来的操作风险管理的预期结果,从而进一步避免创新风险的能力。本研究主要关注在创新能力对操作风险管理的直接影响。本文展示了领导包容行为、感知到的工作团队多样性以及工作控制点在加强对公共组织操作风险管理的创新能力所起到的积极作用。

A Pattern Classification Model for Vowel Data Using Fuzzy Nearest Neighbor

Classification of the patterns is a crucial structure of research and applications. Using fuzzy set theory, classifying the patterns has become of great interest because of its ability to understand the parameters. One of the problemsobserved in the fuzzification of an unknown pattern is that importance is givenonly to the known patterns but not to their features. In contrast, features of thepatterns play an essential role when their respective patterns overlap. In this paper,an optimal fuzzy nearest neighbor model has been introduced in which a fuzzifi-cation process has been carried out for the unknown pattern using k nearest neighbor. With the help of the fuzzification process, the membership matrix has beenformed. In this membership matrix, fuzzification has been carried out of the features of the unknown pattern. Classification results are verified on a completelyllabelled Telugu vowel data set, and the accuracy is compared with the differentmodels and the fuzzy k nearest neighbor algorithm. The proposed model gives84.86% accuracy on 50% training data set and 89.35% accuracy on 80% trainingdata set. The proposed classifier learns well enough with a small amount of training data, resulting in an efficient and faster approach.
