Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the top 10 threats to global health and it is estimated around 10 millions of deaths per year are associated with AMR until 2050. Burkina Faso is also facing the emergence and spread of AMR of several bacteria resistant strains such as those of public health concerns under surveillance Enterobacteriaceae. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-PE) clinical isolates from patients attending the bacteriology laboratory of the Centre MURAZ in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. Clinical isolates from urine, pus, stool, and semen were collected from April to June 2017. Identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing were performed using the VITEK 2 compact automated system according to EUCAST version 2015 recommendations. ESBL detection was then performed on the Muller-Hinton medium using the combined disc method. One hundred (100) strains of Enterobacteriaceae were isolated from 100 patients, including 52% of ESBLS. Escherichia coli (E. coli) was the most commonly isolated ESBL [(84.62, 44/72) ESBL], followed by Klebsiella spp. [(40%, 06/15) ESBL], then Enterobacter spp. [(40%, 2/5) ESBL]. Risk factor analysis revealed that ESBL-PE infection was frequently found in pus samples (P = 0.042;[OR] = 3.16;95% [CI] = 1.04 - 9.61) and that E. coli was the strain most likely to harbour ESBL (P = 0.008;[OR] = 3.60;95% [CI] = 1.40 - 9.31). This study reports a high prevalence of ESBL-PE associated with strong resistance to quinolones and cotrimoxazole (over 80%), which calls for increased surveillance of these superbugs, the adoption of a rational antibiotic prescription policy, and rigorous hygiene measures to prevent the spread of these multi-resistant bacteria.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) represent a public health problem due to their high prevalence worldwide and the emergence of multidrug resistance of responsible microorganisms. Medical laboratory diagnosis of sexually transmitted genital infections by traditional methods as culture remains extremely delicate, difficult or impossible (to find extremely fragile organisms that can be cultured). Thus, molecular techniques constitute an alternative to improve accurate diagnostic, personalized patient treatment, and public health. A total of 83 clinical samples including urethral discharge and urine samples from individual patients with symptoms of urethritis received were analyzed using traditional methods and a commercial real-time PCR (qPCR) method. Out of 83 urethritis patients, n = 55 (66.26%) were positive for at least one of the STI pathogens detected by qPCR. qPCR assay was more sensitive (50/83, positive cases) compared to culture (15/83, positive cases) and light microscopy (28/83, positive cases). The most prevalent NTD pathogen in the suspected patients was N. gonorrhoeae with 60.24% (50/83) based on real-time PCR diagnosis. Among the positive cases of STI pathogens, Neisseria gonorrhoeae had the highest frequency 49/55 (89.01%) followed by low frequencies of Trichomonas vaginalis 4/55 (7.27%) and Chlamydia trachomatis 1/55 (1.82%). This highlights the high prevalence of N. gonorrhoeae infection in male urethritis patients and a very important misdiagnosis using traditional routine methods in Burkina Faso by medical laboratories. Thus, this situation may negatively impact patients’ personalized treatment and care and public health with the possible rapid emergence of multidrug-resistant strains. Prevalence of Group B Streptococcus among Pregnant Women in Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso)

Background: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) or Streptococcus agalactiae, which asymptomatically colonizes the female genital tract, is one of the leading causes of septicemia, meningitis and pneumonia in neonates. This study was conducted in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso to determine the prevalence of GBS colonization among pregnant women. Methods: Six hundred and eleven (611) pregnant women were screened for GBS colonization between July and December 2016. Vaginal swab samples were aseptically collected from the subjects after oral informed consent. Standard microbiological methods were used to isolate and identify GBS isolates. The antibiotic susceptibility profile of GBS isolates was assessed using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method. Results: Colonization prevalence was 6.05%. No risk factors associated with the carriage rate was statistically identified. All isolates were susceptible to Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, Cefotaxime, Levofloxacin, Vancomycin and Nitrofurantoin. Resistance to antibiotics was found for erythromycin (35.14%), lincomycin (16.22%) and penicillin G (10.81%). Conclusion: Although a low carriage (6.05%) rate and isolates were susceptible to many antibiotics found in this study, a policy of systematic screening of pregnant women at least in the third trimester must be promoted.

Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Capacities of Two Medicinal Plants Used against Urinary Infections in Burkina Faso

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial capacities of extracts from Euphorbia hirta L. and Terminalia avicennioides GUILL & PERR. Methodology: The crude hydro-acetonic and aqueous extracts as well their fractionations were prepared. The total phenolic, flavonoids and tannins contents were assessed using the Folin-Ciocalteu, aluminum chloride and vanillin acid methods, respectively. The antioxidant and antibacterial activities were investigated using standard methods. Results: Euphorbia hirta showed significant contents of total phenolic and flavonoids in n-Butanol (145.14 ± 1.37 GAE/100mg extracts) and ethyl acetate (23.56 ± 0.68 mg QE/ 100mg extracts) fractions. Total tannins were high in hydro-acétonique extract (11.18 ± 0.31 mg TAE/100mg extracts) and aqueous fraction (11.12 ± 0.28 mg TAE/100mg extracts) of Terminalia avicennioides stem barks. Extracts and fractions of both plants demonstrated a strongly antioxidant capacity through the free radicals scavenging and the ferric ions reducing. Concerning antimicrobial screening the extracts of Terminalia avicennioides were effective against 16 causative pathogens of urinary tract infections. Bactericidal effect against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Staphylococcus aureus and 2 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus haemolyticus strains was found with aqueous fraction of Terminalia avicennioides leaves. This fraction also highlighted a synergetic effect with some antibiotics used against these bacterial strains. Conclusion: Terminalia avicennioides leaves could be recommended as an herbal drug formulation for the urinary infections management.

For bounded linear operators A,B,C and D on a Banach space X,we show that if BAC=BDB and CDB=CAC then I-AC is generalized Drazin-Riesz invertible if and only if I-BD is generalized Drazin-Riesz invertible,which gives a positive answer to Question 4.9 in Yan,Zeng and Zhu[Complex *** 14,Paper No.12(2020)].In particular,we show that Jacobson’s lemma holds for generalized Drazin-Riesz inverses.

We consider a McKean Vlasov backward stochastic differential equation(MVBSDE) of the form Y_(t)=-F(t,Y_(t),Z_(t),[Y_(t)]) dt+Z_(t) dB_(t),Y_(T)=ξ,where [Y_(t)] stands for the law of Y,.We show that if F is locally monotone in y,locally Lipschitz with respect to z and law's variable,and the monotonicity and Lipschitz constants κ_(n),L_(n) are such that L_(n)^(2)+κ_(n)^(+)=O(log(N)),then the MVBSDE has a unique stable solution.

We show in this work that the limit in law of the cross-variation of processes having the form of Young integral with respect to a general self-similar centered Gaussian process of orderβ∈(1/2,3/4]is normal according to the values ofβ.We apply our results to two self-similar Gaussian processes:the subfractional Brownian motion and the bifractional Brownian motion.

Implications of turbulent shear on clay floc break-up along the Atlantic estuary(Bouregreg),Morocco

Water depth,salinity,current,and suspended sediment concentration（SSC） were measured along with the grain size distribution of bed sediment along an estuarine longitudinal *** floc size increased with increase in the percentage of clay and silt,while decreased with increase in the percentage of sand content of bed *** turbulent shear,G,had a direct effect on floc size with its value increasing with increase in G up to a G value of 15 s-1,while an inverse relation existed between floc size and G at higher G(C> 15 s-1).Further,higher turbulence enabled sand to get resuspended and cause additional shear leading to the break-up of *** attempt was made to modify G to account for the combined effect of water turbulence（C） and shear imparted by sand（Ca） and the impact of the modification of G on the predictability of floc size was evaluated.A new model was developed which explains floc size in terms of sediment concentration（C）,salinity gradient（S）,and G for different scenarios based on the value of *** analysis was done for observed floc size（FS） and predicted floc size using four approaches:（Ⅰ） FS β Cχ;（Ⅱ） FS α CχS-y;（Ⅲ） FS α CχS-yGzfor G 15 s-1; and（Ⅳ） FS α CχS-yGm-zfor G> 15 s-1and Gm=G+Ga,where x,y,and z are determined by *** was observed that the predictability of the floc size improved when the turbulence was modified to account for shear imparted by sand so that the coefficient of determination was increased from 0.78 for model Ⅲ to 0.89 for model Ⅳ.Further,the settling velocity was expressed as a function of suspended sediment concentration,turbulent shear,and salinity *** predictability of settling velocity was improved（R2increased from 0.77 to 0.86） when the additional turbulence created by sand was incorporated in the non-dimensional empirical *** study highlights the influence of sand in causing the break-up of flocs and suggests that for turbulence shear values high en
