Young footballers, assessed by deep breathing test, have a higher vagal response

Parasympathetic function can be assessed by the deep breathing test (DB) as a simple and reproducible cardiovascular reflex. The aim of this study is to use this test to compare the vagal response of a young footballers group to of age-matched untrained normal subjects. Deep breathing test was performed in 2 groups: one of 20 adult young footballers (average age of 19.3 ± 0.6 years), and a second age-matched group of 20 untrained subjects (average age of 19.6 ± 0.6 years). Subjects underwent the DB test after 30 min resting in supine position, and responses were expressed as a percentage of variation of heart rate during the stimulation. Student’s t-test was used to evaluate statistical differences among the two groups for all parameters (vagal response, heart rate, VO2max….) and considering p < 0.05 as a significant difference. The results showed that vagal response to deep breathing test was significantly higher in the young footballers when compared to the untrained controls (72.6% ± 16.2% vs 55.0% ± 12.8%, respectively, p = 0.03). The basal heart rate was significantly lower in footballers than in the controls group (52.1 ± 7.4 bat/min vs 69.8 ± 14.3 bat/min, p < 0.01). The use of the simple test of deep breathing allowed us to demonstrate that adult young footballers have a significantly lower basal HR and higher parasympathetic response in comparison to untrained subjects.

BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumor(SFT)is a remarkably uncommon mesenchymal tumor.STAT6 level and a combination of clinical,pathological,and molecular features are required to arrive at a proper diagnosis.CASE SUMMARY In this report,we present an intriguing case involving a 43-year-old woman who initially exhibited symptoms of a bleeding retroperitoneal tumor,initially resembling a gastrointestinal stromal tumor,but later confirmed as an SFT.However,a year later,what was initially believed to be a recurrence of her SFT was instead identified as a desmoid tumor.CONCLUSION Distinguishing SFT from other tumors was pivotal.Correcting misdiagnoses of tumor type initially and of recurrence later was necessary for appropriate treatment of the correct desmoid type.

Influence of Discretization Step on Asymptotic Stability of a Certain Class of Two-dimensional Continuous-discrete Fractional Linear Systems

The effectiveness of this paper lies in the influence of the discretization step on the asymptotic stability of the positive two-dimensional fractional linear systems.It aims at investigating whether,how and when this step affects the asymptotically stable two-dimensional positive fractional linear continuous-discrete systems.To accomplish this study,a new test was outlined and used so that the asymptotic stability of the system was measured both before and after being exposed to the sampling step.Furthermore,the conditions of that stability were assessed.As a result,the outcome of the approximation shows that the stability is preserved under a particular set of conditions.On this basis,the newly proposed approach is recommended for testing the intended stability of such systems.A numerical example is tested to show the accuracy and the applicability of the proposed tests.

A Hybrid Neural Network-based Approach for Forecasting Water Demand

Water is a vital resource.It supports a multitude of industries,civilizations,and agriculture.However,climatic conditions impact water availability,particularly in desert areas where the temperature is high,and rain is scarce.Therefore,it is crucial to forecast water demand to provide it to sectors either on regular or emergency days.The study aims to develop an accurate model to forecast daily water demand under the impact of climatic conditions.This forecasting is known as a multivariate time series because it uses both the historical data of water demand and climatic conditions to forecast the future.Focusing on the collected data of Jeddah city,Saudi Arabia in the period between 2004 and 2018,we develop a hybrid approach that uses Artificial Neural Networks(ANN)for forecasting and Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm(PSO)for tuning ANNs’hyperparameters.Based on the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)metric,results show that the(PSO-ANN)is an accurate model for multivariate time series forecasting.Also,the first day is the most difficult day for prediction(highest error rate),while the second day is the easiest to predict(lowest error rate).Finally,correlation analysis shows that the dew point is the most climatic factor affecting water demand.

The effects of sand encroachment on composition,diversity,and functional patterns of vegetation in drylands are rarely studied,and yet addressing these aspects is important to deepen our understanding of the biodiversity conservation.This study aimed to investigate the effect of sand encroachment on plant functional biodiversity of desert pavements(gravel deserts)in the Sahara Desert of Algeria.Plants were sampled and analyzed in three desert pavements with different levels of sand encroachment(LSE)and quantity of aeolian deposits(low,LLSE;medium,MLSE;and high,HLSE).Within the sample-plot area(100 m^(2)),density of every plant species was identified and total vegetation cover was determined.Plant taxonomic and functional diversity were analyzed and compared between LSE.Result showed that 19 plant species in desert pavements were classified into 18 genera and 13 families.Asteraceae and Poaceae were the most important families.The species Anabasis articulata(Forssk)Moq.characterized LLSE desert pavements with 11 species,whereas Thymelaea microphylla Coss.&Durieu ex Meisn.and Calobota saharae(C&D)Boatwr.&van Wyk were dominant species of desert pavements with MLSE(14 species)and HLSE(10 species),respectively.The highest values of species richness and biodiversity were recorded in desert pavements with MLSE,while low values of these ecological parameters were obtained in desert pavements with HLSE.Desert pavements with LLSE were characterized with the highest values of species abundances.Plant communities were dominated by chamaephytes,anemochorous,arido-active,and competitive stress-tolerant plants.The increase in LSE along the gradient from LLSE to HLSE induced significant changes in plant community variables including decreases in plant density,plant rarity,lifeform composition,morphological type,and aridity adaptation.Desert pavements with HLSE favor the degradation of vegetation and trigger biodiversity erosion.

The coastal plain aquifer down gradient of Wad Essaquia Elhamra(WEE),is the main source of groundwater in the arid region of Laayoune Essaquia El Hamra located in south of Morocco.The over-exploitation of this aquifer over the last decade for water supply,agriculture and industry led to deterioration of groundwater quality,including seawater intrusion.The objective of this study is to investigate the spatial variation of groundwater quality,and to assess the influence of sea water intrusion on the groundwater quality using hydro-chemical tools.Several measurement campaigns of physico-chemical parameters of the groundwater were performed,which shows a very high mineralization ratios versus chloride,confirming the double influence of mixing mechanisms of fresh and saline waters and the water-rock interactions.Computed seawater fraction for sampled water shows that the average mixing rate of seawater intrusion reached 10.5%,confirming the marine intrusion in the aquifer.The highest values were registered in coastal wells.In the upstream around Laayoune and the spreading area,nitrate concentrations exceed 50 mg/L which is the threshold set by the World Health Organization,revealing a high level of contamination by domestic sewage.The combination of ionic ratios and seawater fraction is a useful tool to assess marine intrusion.This study reveals that the phenomenon of marine intrusion is not the only process that dominates hydrochemistry of ground water.The high groundwater mineralization is also due to rockwater interaction associated with reverse ion exchange with clay material and anthropogenic pollutants.

Sustainable Marketing at the Heart of Cosmetics Companies:Myth or Reality?

Cosmetic companies are trying to include more sustainability in their strategies. But, showing commitment is always a challenge for them. This work consists in showing the degree of commitment of cosmetic companies in their marketing practices. The qualitative study carried out aims to determine the level of their commitment in terms of sustainability, based on 10 websites of “sustainable” cosmetics companies that sell their products online, and on defining sustainability criteria for each variable of the marketing mix. The results indicate that the majority of the companies analyzed are aware of the importance of sustainability and have taken measures to have a positive impact on the economy, society and the environment. The companies have made considerable efforts in “product” and “communication” strategies, but additional improvements can be envisaged for “price” and “distribution” strategies.

Influence of Nitric Acid Concentration on Characteristics of Olive Stone Based Activated Carbon

In this work we investigated the effect of nitric acid concentration on the pore structure,surface chemistry and liquid phase adsorption of olive stone based activated carbon prepared by mixing process using phosphoric acid and steam as activating agents.Chemicals and textural characterization show that the increase of HNO3concentration increases considerably the total acidic groups but decreases specific surface area and pore volume.The study of adsorption in aqueous solutions of two organics,phenol and methylene blue,on raw and oxidized activated carbon indicates that the treatment of mixed activated carbon with different concentrations of nitric acid improves the adsorbent capacity for methylene blue at HNO3concentrations less or equal to 2 mol·L 1,while it has a negative effect on phenol adsorption.

Electroencephalography(EEG)eye state classification becomes an essential tool to identify the cognitive state of humans.It can be used in several fields such as motor imagery recognition,drug effect detection,emotion categorization,seizure detection,etc.With the latest advances in deep learning(DL)models,it is possible to design an accurate and prompt EEG EyeState classification problem.In this view,this study presents a novel compact bat algorithm with deep learning model for biomedical EEG EyeState classification(CBADL-BEESC)model.The major intention of the CBADL-BEESC technique aims to categorize the presence of EEG EyeState.The CBADL-BEESC model performs feature extraction using the ALexNet model which helps to produce useful feature vectors.In addition,extreme learning machine autoencoder(ELM-AE)model is applied to classify the EEG signals and the parameter tuning of the ELM-AE model is performed using CBA.The experimental result analysis of the CBADL-BEESC model is carried out on benchmark results and the comparative outcome reported the supremacy of the CBADL-BEESC model over the recent methods.

Generally,software testing is considered as a proficient technique to achieve improvement in quality and reliability of the software.But,the quality of test cases has a considerable influence on fault revealing capability of software testing activity.Test Case Prioritization(TCP)remains a challenging issue since prioritizing test cases is unsatisfactory in terms of Average Percentage of Faults Detected(APFD)and time spent upon execution results.TCP ismainly intended to design a collection of test cases that can accomplish early optimization using preferred characteristics.The studies conducted earlier focused on prioritizing the available test cases in accelerating fault detection rate during software testing.In this aspect,the current study designs aModified Harris Hawks Optimization based TCP(MHHO-TCP)technique for software testing.The aim of the proposed MHHO-TCP technique is to maximize APFD and minimize the overall execution time.In addition,MHHO algorithm is designed to boost the exploration and exploitation abilities of conventional HHO algorithm.In order to validate the enhanced efficiency of MHHO-TCP technique,a wide range of simulations was conducted on different benchmark programs and the results were examined under several aspects.The experimental outcomes highlight the improved efficiency of MHHO-TCP technique over recent approaches under different measures.
