An integrated framework reinstating the environmental dimension for GWAS and genomic selection in crops

Identifying mechanisms and pathways involved in gene–environment interplay and phenotypic plasticity is a long-standing *** is highly desirable to establish an integrated framework with an environmental dimension for complex trait dissection and prediction.A critical step is to identify an environmental index that is both biologically relevant and estimable for new *** extensive field-observed complex traits,environmental profiles,and genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms for three major crops(maize,wheat,and oat),we demonstrated that identifying such an environmental index(i.e.,a combination of environmental parameter and growth window)enables genome-wide association studies and genomic selection of complex traits to be conducted with an explicit environmental ***,genes identified for two reaction-norm parameters(i.e.,intercept and slope)derived from flowering time values along the environmental index were less colocalized for a diverse maize panel than for wheat and oat breeding panels,agreeing with the different diversity levels and genetic constitutions of the *** addition,we showcased the usefulness of this framework for systematically forecasting the performance of diverse germplasm panels in new *** general framework and the companion CERIS-JGRA analytical package should facilitate biologically informed dissection of complex traits,enhanced performance prediction in breeding for future climates,and coordinated efforts to enrich our understanding of mechanisms underlying phenotypic variation.

Geochemical analysis of organic matter associated with gold in ore deposits:A study of Kazakhstan and Hungary

This study comprises the relationship between organic matter(OM)and gold occurrence using two distinctive ore deposits of the Bakyrchik gold-sulfide deposit(Kazakhstan)and Western Mecsek uranium ore deposit(Hungary).The two ore deposits are identified as organicrich sedimentary formations linked to the Variscan gold cycle *** OM is essential because it can act as a carrier for gold,influencing its distribution and behavior within the *** the nature and distribution of OM can provide insights into the processes of gold deposition and help optimize exploration and extraction strategies in mining *** primary objective is to characterize OM by identifying its elemental composition,thermal maturity,functional groups,and soluble fractions;and extract gold from OM using a two-step sequential extraction method(hydrogen peroxide and aqua regia)combined with geochemical *** and experimental results from samples of both ore deposits indicate the presence of finely disseminated solid bitumen and reworked vitrinite,originating from thermally matured(RmcRo%—3.76 in Bakyrchik;Ro%—2.25 in W-Mecsek)terrigenous high *** deposits exhibit extremely low extractable bitumen yield and TOC(0.34%in Bakyrchik;0.25 wt%in W-Mecsek),characterized by an aromatic carboxylic acid organic structure and a composition rich in sulfur-containing(1.17%in Bakyrchik;5.81%in W-Mecsek)aromatic *** occurrence and enrichment within OM were confi rmed through the sequential extraction method employing ICP-OES and LA-ICP-MS *** sequentially extracted gold content from OM reached up to 3 ppm in Bakyrchik and up to 3.28 ppm in Western Mecsek,accompanied by Ag(ranging from 0.01 to 0.32 ppm).Higher concentrations of Au(4 ppm)and Ag(27 ppm)were extracted from residue materials,which are likely associated with sulfide *** presence of gold in OM was further validated using *** bonding within OM struc

Recycled oceanic crust as a source for tonalite intrusions in the mantle section of the Khor Fakkan block, Semail ophiolite(UAE)

Several types of felsic granitoid rocks have been recognized, intrusive in both the mantle and the crustal sequence of the Semail ophiolite. Several models have been proposed for the source of this suite of tonalites, granodiorites, trondhjemites intrusions, however their genesis is still not clearly *** sampled Dadnah tonalites that intruded in the mantle section of the Semail ophiolite display arctype geochemical characteristics, are high siliceous, low-potassic, metaluminous to weakly peraluminous, enriched in LILE, show positive peaks for Ba, Pb, Eu, negative troughs for U, Ti and occur with low δ^(18)O_(H_2 O), moderate ε_(Sr) and negative eNd values. They have crystallized at temperatures that range from～550 ℃ to ～720 ℃ and pressure ranging from 4.4 kbar to 6.5 kbar. The isotopic ages from our tonalite samples range between 98.6 Ma and 94.9 Ma, slightly older and overlapping with the age of the metamorphic sole. Our field observations, mineralogical, petrological, geochemical, isotopic and melt inclusion data suggest that the Dadnah tonalites formed by partial melting(～10%-15% continuous or ～12% batch partial melting), accumulation of plagioclase, fractional crystallization(～55%-57%), and interaction with their host harzburgites. These tonalites were the end result of partial melting and subsequent contamination and mixing of ～4% oceanic sediments with ～96% oceanic lithosphere from the subducted slab. This MORB-type slab melt composed from ～97% recycled oceanic crust and ～3% of the overlying *** suggest that a possible protolith for these tonalites was the basaltic lavas from the subducted oceanic slab that melted during the initial stages of the supra-subduction zone(SSZ), which was forming synchronously to the spreading ridge axis. The tonalite melts mildly modified due to low degree of mixing and interaction with the overlying lithospheric mantle. Enhancing the robustness of object detection via 6G vehicular edge computing

Academic and industrial communities have been paying significant attention to the 6th Generation (6G) wireless communication systems after the commercial deployment of 5G cellular communications. Among the emerging technologies, Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) can provide essential assurance for the robustness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms to be used in the 6G systems. Therefore, in this paper, a strategy for enhancing the robustness of AI model deployment using 6G-VEC is proposed, taking the object detection task as an example. This strategy includes two stages: model stabilization and model adaptation. In the former, the state-of-the-art methods are appended to the model to improve its robustness. In the latter, two targeted compression methods are implemented, namely model parameter pruning and knowledge distillation, which result in a trade-off between model performance and runtime resources. Numerical results indicate that the proposed strategy can be smoothly deployed in the onboard edge terminals, where the introduced trade-off outperforms the other strategies available.

Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection:Meeting the challenge of antimicrobial resistance

Treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is paramount for the management of prevalent gastrointestinal disorders including peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer. Due to the wide increase in prevalence of H. pylori resistance to antibiotics, clarithromycin-based triple therapies are not any more suitable for unconditional empiric use, and should not be recommended, unless local resistance to this antibiotic is low (< 20%). Alternative strategies have been proposed to overcome the issue of increasing clarithromycin resistance, and some of them are already implemented in clinical practice. These comprise: (1) adoption of novel, more effective, empirical treatments: bismuth quadruple, sequential, non-bismuth quadruple (concomitant), dual-concomitant (hybrid), and levofloxacin-based regimens, the latter mainly designated as second-line/rescue options; (2) perspectives for a susceptibility-guided (tailored) therapeutic approach based on culture-free molecular testing methods; and (3) adjunct use of probiotics to improve eradication rates. The present article is aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of current and emerging strategies in the treatment of H. pylori infection, focusing on the challenge of antimicrobial resistance.

Investigation of proper modeling of very dense granular flows in the recirculation system of CFBs

The aim of this paper is the development of new models and] or the improvement of existing numerical models, used for simulating granular flow in CFB （circulating fluidized bed） recirculation systems. Most recent models follow the TFM （two-fluid model） methodology, but they cannot effectively simulate the inter-particle friction forces in the recirculation system, because the respective stress tensor does not incorporate compressibility of flow due to change of effective particle density. As a consequence, the induced normal and shear stresses are not modeled appropriately during the flow of the granular phase in the CFB recirculation system. The failure of conventional models, such as that of yon MisesJCoulomb, is mainly caused by false approximation of the yield criterion which is not applicable to the CFB recirculation system. The present work adopts an alternative yield function, used for the first time in TFM Eulerian modeling. The proposed model is based on the Pitman-Schaeffer-Gray-Stiles yield criterion. Both the temporal deformation of the solid granular phase and the repose angle that the granular phase forms are more accurately simulated by this model. The numerical results of the proposed model agree well with experimental data, implying that frictional forces are efficiently simulated by the new model.

Fragility assessment of tunnels in soft soils using artificial neural networks

Recent earthquakes have shown that tunnels are prone to damage,posing a major threat to safety and having major cascading and socioeconomic ***,reliable models are needed for the seismic fragility assessment of underground structures and the quantitative evaluation of expected *** on previous researches,this paper presented a probabilistic framework based on an artificial neural network(ANN),aiming at the development of fragility curves for circular tunnels in soft ***,a two-dimensional incremental dynamic analysis of the nonlinear soil-tunnel system was performed to estimate the response of the tunnel under ground *** effects of soil-structure-interaction and the ground motion characteristics on the seismic response and the fragility of tunnels were adequately considered within the proposed *** ANN was employed to develop a probabilistic seismic demand model,and its results were compared with the traditional linear regression *** curves were generated for various damage states,accounting for the associated *** results indicate that the proposed ANN-based probabilistic framework can results in reliable fragility models,having similar capabilities as the traditional approaches,and a lower computational cost is *** proposed fragility models can be adopted for the risk analysis of typical circular tunnel in soft soils subjected to seismic loading,and they are expected to facilitate decision-making and risk management toward more resilient transport infrastructure.

Inferior mesenteric arteriovenous fistula: Case report and world-literature review

Arteriovenous fistulas between the inferior mesenteric artery and vein are rare, with only 26 primary and secondary cases described in the literature. Secondary fistulas occur following operations of the left hemicolon and manifest as abdominal pain, abdominal mass, gastrointestinal bleeding, colonic ischemia and portal hypertension. Symptom intensities are flow-dependent, and can range from minimal symptoms to severe heart failure due to left to right shunt. Diagnosis is usually established by radiological or intraoperative examination. Treatment options include embolization and/or surgical resection. Therapeutic decisions should be adapted to the unique characteristics of the fistula on an individual basis. A new case of a primary arteriovenous fistula is described and discussed along with a complete review of the literature. The patient in this report presented with signs and symptoms of colonic ischemia without portal hypertension. The optimal treatment for this pa-tient required a combination of embolization and surgical operation. The characteristics of these rare inferior mesenteric arteriovenous fistulas are examined and some considerations concerning diagnostic and therapeutic strategies that should be followed are presented.
