The borders of Illinois were established when Illinois became a state in 1818. The western border was delineated using the Mississippi River, and the Ohio River was used as the southern border. The eastern border was formed by the Ohio and Wabash Rivers plus the line along latitude 42030＇30＇＇ connecting the Wabash River to Lake Michigan. As initially proposed, the northern border of Illinois would have been 82 km （51 mi） to the south of the current longitude line of 87~31 ＇. This 2,160,000 ha （5,440,000 ac） addition to Illinois resulted in the territory having the required minimum of 40,000 people to qualify as a state. The northern border was moved to allow the linkage of the Great Lakes shipping route to the Illinois and Mississippi River navigation channels. Illinois thus gained a valuable shoreline on Lake Michigan and a location for a shipping port hub which became Chicago. Initially the transfer of goods between these waterways required a portage, but later a shipping canal was created to link the waterways. During the Civil War, Union forces used the connected waterway systems as a northern supply route to avoid the contested Ohio River.

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to investigate whether street basketball organized as 3 v 3 on either a half court(HC) with 1 basket or a full court(FC) with 2 baskets could improve fitness and health profiles of untrained men after 3 months of supervised ***: Thirty-five untrained men(aged 20—42 years) completed the pre-and post-intervention testing(FC: n = 13, HC: n = 12, CO(control):n = 10). The training attendance was 2.0 ± 0.4 and 1.9 ± 0.3 times per week in FC and HC, respectively. Mean heart rate(HR) was 83.8 ± 6.0 percent of maximal heart rate(%HR_(max)) and 84.5 ± 2.9 %HR_(max) in FC and HC, ***: The 3 months of street basketball training on an FC with 2 baskets increased maximal oxygen uptake(2.4 mL/min/kg(95% confidence interval(CI): 1.0—3.9)), time to exhaustion(47 s(95%CI: 26—67)), lean body mass(0.8 kg(95%CI: 0.1—1.5)), and bone mineral density(0.021 g/cm^2(95%CI: 0.011—0.031)), whereas mean arterial pressure(—5.6 mm Hg(95%CI: —7.5 to 3.7)), body fat percentage(—1.6%,(95%CI: —2.5 to —0.7)), heart rate(—18 bpm(95%CI: —24 to —12)), and blood lactate(median: —1.4 mmol/L(interquartile range: —1.5 to —0.6)) during submaximal running were lowered. The changes were less pronounced after the training period when playing on an HC with 1 basket, but increases in maximal oxygen uptake(1.6 mL/min/kg(95%CI: —0.1 to 3.3)), time to exhaustion(28 s(95%CI: 9—47)), lean body mass(1.3 kg(95%CI: 0.3—2.4)), and lower body fat percentage(—0.9%(95%CI: —1.9 to —0.1)) were observed in this ***: Three months of 3 v 3 street basketball training improved fitness and led to broad-spectrum improvements in variables related to overall health profile, with the most marked effects observed when playing on an FC with 2 baskets.

近年来,拓扑声学相关研究发展迅猛,其理论最初源于凝聚态物理中所发现的拓扑特性.其中,声学高阶拓扑绝缘体支持能量高度局域在拐角处的低维拓扑角态,且本征频率简并.然而,如何打破拓扑角态的多重简并,实现可调控的频率分布并设计新型声学多功能拓扑器件,是亟待解决的关键问题.在该研究中,通过对二维声子晶体中的单元施加平移形变,与真实空间自由度相结合构建四维合成空间.研究发现,随着平移形变自由度的调制,Zak相位连续变化,而合成空间的非零拓扑不变量确保了系统的非平庸拓扑特性,拓扑角态的频率简并被打破.基于此结论,进一步设计了基于合成维度的声学高阶拓扑绝缘体阵列,以实现局域在深亚波长拐角上的双通道声彩虹捕获.实验结果表明,不同通道上声彩虹拓扑角态的本征频率增加方向相反,在空间选择性能量捕获等领域具有潜在的应用前景.

The lesion-mimic Arabidopsis mutant, syp121 syp122, constitutively expresses the salicylic acid （SA） signaling pathway and has low penetration resistance to powdery mildew fungi. Genetic analyses of the lesion-mimic phenotype have expanded our understanding of programmed cell death （PCD） in plants. Inactivation of SA signaling genes in syp121 syp122 only partially rescues the lesion-mimic phenotype, indicating that additional defenses contribute to the PCD. Whole genome transcriptome analysis confirmed that SA-induced transcripts, as well as numerous other known pathogenresponse transcripts, are up-regulated after inactivation of the syntaxin genes. A suppressor mutant analysis of syp121 syp122 revealed that FMO1, ALD1, and PAD4 are important for lesion development Mutant alleles of EDS1, NDR1, RAR1, and SGTlb also partially rescued the lesion-mimic phenotype, suggesting that mutating syntaxin genes stimulates TIR-NB-LRR and CC-NB-LRR-type resistances. The syntaxin double knockout potentiated a powdery mildew- induced HR-like response. This required functional PAD4 but not functional SA signaling. However, SA signaling potentiated the PAD4-dependent HR-like response. Analyses of quadruple mutants suggest that EDS5 and SID2 confer separate SA-independent signaling functions, and that FMO1 and ALD1 mediate SA-independent signals that are NPRl-dependent. These studies highlight the contribution of multiple pathways to defense and point to the complexity of their interactions.

为了控制焚烧飞灰中铬的浸出,将FeSO4加入焚烧飞灰水系统中和Cr(Ⅵ)的碱性水溶液中,试验二价铁(Fe(Ⅱ))对Cr(Ⅵ)的还原效果,并检验了Cr(Ⅵ)的还原产物的稳定性.热力学分析表明,碱性系统中Fe(Ⅱ)对Cr(Ⅵ)的还原受到Fe(Ⅱ)与O2反应的强烈竞争.实验结果也证实了暴露于空气的飞灰水系统中的Fe(Ⅱ)对铬没有明显的控制效果,但在碱性溶液相中过量的Fe(Ⅱ)却能快速有效地还原Cr(Ⅵ),且还原产物十分稳定.此外,焚烧飞灰中铬的溶出受到Pb、Ba、Ca等元素的干扰,不利于Cr(Ⅵ)的还原稳定.为了有效地稳定Cr(Ⅵ),Fe(Ⅱ)稳定飞灰的过程可分两步进行.试验结果还表明,在碱性系统中铁的氧化物氢氧化物对Cr(Ⅵ)的吸附和沉淀效果十分有限.

ANAEROBIC DECHLORINATION OF PCBs IN SEDIMENTS OF KINNICKINNIC RIVER, WISCONSIN

Six vibra cores of 1.80 3.15 m length, collected in 1994 from the Kinnickinnic River, Wisconsin, were examined for indications of anaerobic PolyChlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) dechlorination. The cores were previously dated using 210Pb and 137Cs and analyzed for several PCB congeners. The PCB analysis was carried out after Soxhlet extraction, Kuderna-Danish (K-D) volume reduction and silica gel chromatographic cleanup. Purified extracts were injected into a DB-5 column of a Hewlett-Packard (HP) 5890 gas chromatograph with electron capture detector. Overall PCB concentrations were 0.15 45 ppm (dry weight basis). Measured values of congeners with International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) numbers 5, 29, 44, 52, 87, 101, 118, 138, 153, and 180 (marker congeners) were used in the dechlorination analysis. Modeling of dechlorination involves the following steps. First, an overall average congener profile (nmoles/g) is generated based on all samples. This profile is then subjected to chemical mass balance modeling to estimate the contribution of Aroclors 1242, 1254, and 1260, and a calculated congener profile (mole %) is created by adding the contributions of each. Simulation of dechlorination reactions that involve at least one of the above marker congeners is then carried out on the calculated profile until the fit between calculated and measured concentrations of marker congeners is optimal as indicated by a least-squares criterion. Overall, mild dechlorination of the PCBs was found, by reactions such as #138(234-245)#87(234-25), #180(2345-245) #153(245-245), #44(23-25)#18(25-2), and #22(23-4)#5(23), where # signs indicate congener numbers. The significance of the dechlorination products #87 and #5 is confirmed by factor analysis.
