Introduction: Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection is a worldwide public health problem. Unfortunately, its management poses a problem because of resistance to antibiotics. However, there are codified treatment protocols covering sequential and concomitant quadritherapy with regard to first-line probabilistic treatment. The objective of this study was to assess the therapeutic efficacy of these 2 treatment regimens in the management of Hp infection at Kinshasa. Methods: This was a mixed study, with documentary, descriptive and interventional approaches, carried out between September 1, 2018 and April 30, 2020. Results: Sixty-four patients were collected, including 36 men against 28 women with a sex ratio of 1H:1F;the mean age was 54 ± 16.5 years. There was an over-representation of senior patients (n = 29);an intermediate number of adult patients (n = 22) and a lower number of young patients (n = 13). 34 and 30 were respectively treated according to the concomitant and sequential regimens. Concomitant quadruple therapy offered an eradication rate of 91.2% compared to 56.7% for sequential quadruple therapy;concomitant treatment, advancing age and absence of risky behavior more quickly predicted the occurrence of eradication success. Conclusion: The present study showed superiority of concomitant quadruple therapy over sequential quadruple therapy in first-line treatment. Alcohol with active smoking had a negative influence, while concomitant quadruple therapy, advancement in age had a positive influence on the success of the eradication of Hp infection.

strong>Background:strong> Despite the Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) elimination initiative, neonatal tetanus still persists in some parts of the world. Objectives: To determine hospital prevalence and describe epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and outcome aspects of neonatal tetanus at the Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Bangui. Methodology: It was the review of hospitalized newborns’ files in the neonatal unit at Pediatric Teaching Hospital in Bangui between January 2016 and December 2019. Newborns discharged with tetanus diagnosis, and whose files were usable were included. The variables studied were: for the newborn: age, sex, birth weight, the reason for transfer, diagnosis, cause and time of death, place and method of delivery;for the mother: age, antenatal care, tetanus vaccine status, parity and geographical provenance. Epi Info 7 software, version 7.***.3.3 was used for data analysis. The chi2 test with the significance level set at p Résultats: Forty-eight (48) out of 5796 newborns had neonatal tetanus (0.8%).n style="font-family:Verdana;"> They were newborns to mothers with an average age of 18.8 years of which 68.8% (n = 33) were primipara and 87.5% (n = 42) not vaccinated against tetanus. Childbirth happened at home in 91.7% (n = 44), and the blade was used for sectioning the umbilical cord in 39.6% (n = 19). newborns were referred from rural area in 47.9% (n = 23). A single antenatal care contact was done in 68.7% (n = 33). Tetanus was classified as severe according to the Dakar prognosis score between 4 and 6 in 89.6% of cases (n = 43). A well-established strategy to synthesize heterogeneous,metal-organic framework(MOF)catalysts that exhibit nanoconfinement effects,and specific pores with highly-localized catalytic sites,is to use organic linkers containing organocatalytic ***,we report that by combining this linker approach with reticular chemistry,and exploiting three-dimensioanl(3D)MOF-structural data from the Cambridge structural Database,we have designed four heterogeneous MOF-based catalysts for standard organic *** programmable MOFs are isoreticular versions of pcu IRMOF-16,feu UiO-68 and pillared-pcu SnU-8X,the three most common topologies of MOFs built from the organic linker p.p'-terphenyldicarboxylic acid(tpdc).To synthesize the four squaramide-based MOFs,we designed and synthesized a linker,4,4’-((3,4-dioxocyclobut-1-ene-1,2-diyl)bis(azanedyil))dibenzoic acid(Sq_tpdc),which is identical in directionality and length to tpdc but which contains organocatalytic squaramide *** were chosen because their immobilization into a framework enhances its reactivity and stability while avoiding any self-quenching ***,the four MOFs share the same organocatalytic squaramide moiety,but confine it within distinct pore *** then evaluated these MOFs as heterogeneous H-bonding catalysts in organic transformations:a Friedel-Crafts alkylation and an epoxide *** of them exhibited good performance in both reactions but all showed distinct catalytic profiles that reflect their structural differences.

Factors associated with H pylori epidemiology in symptomatic children in Buenos Aires,Argentina

AIM: To determine prevalence of H pylori infection in symptomatic children in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and to investigate factors associated with H pylori positivity. METHODS: A total of 395 children with upper gastrointestinal symptoms referred to the Gastroente-rology Unit of the Children Hospital “sor Maria Ludovica” were evaluated for the presence of H pylori by the 13C-Urea Breath Test (13C-UBT). A questionnaire was applied to the recruited ***: Prevalence of H pylori infection was 40.0%in this population (mean age 9.97 ± 3.1 years). The factors associated with H pylori positivity were number of siblings (P nce of pet cats (P = 0.03) and birds (P = 0.04) in the household, and antecedents of gastritis among family members (P = 0.01). After multivariate analysis, number of siblings [Odds ratio (OR) = 1.39; 95% CI, 1.20-1.61] and contact with pet cats (OR = 1.76; 95% CI, 1.00-3.09) remained as variables associated with H pylori infection. COnCLUSIOn: The prevalence of H pylori infection in children with upper gastrointestinal symptoms in Argentina was similar to that reported in developed countries. Children from families with a higher crowding index and presence of pet cats have a higher risk of being colonized with H pylori.

The Children’s Faecal Matter structure Is Built by Their Parents

Introduction: Humans have gone through physical changes over the last 4 million years. The mouth, however, has not changed teeth quantity or quality. Eight incisors for fruits, vegetables and tubers;four little canines for little animals;eight premolars and twelve flat molars are used for crushing these foods, especially whole grains and legumes. The teeth crushing foods are the first step in the building of faecal matter. Foods are selected mostly according to cultural guidelines than to biological needs. The patterns of consumption are induced by the publicity of industrialized or processed foods. Material and Methods: This study design was observational, analytical, correlational, transversal and prospective. One thousand children (0 - 12 years old) were questioned in order to learn about the relationship between Weekly Eating Frequency (WEF) and Faecal Matter (FM) characteristics. The FM was classified as soft, normal or hard and the outcome was expressed as Dry Faecal Residue (DFR). The WEF and Weekly Bowel Movement Frequency (WBMF) were determined and tabulated according to times per week. Environmental factors, parents’ education level and children’s birth order were examined. Results: There was a strong association between DFR, WBMF and WEF. Environment and education level did not play a key role although birth order did matter. Conclusions: Fibre-free foods (dairies, meats, flours and sweeties or sodas) increased DFR. Foods containing fibre from vegetables decreased DFR, which in turn contributed to the WBMF. Lowest DFR was observed in children under Exclusive Breastfeeding (EB). Distant last-born children had higher DFR. Comments: Daily examples support these results and it is clear that children’s FM is built by their parents. We encourage parents to follow the “mouth nature” rather than the “advertisements nature”.

Synthesis, characterization of a multi-component metal oxide (Al0.88Fe0.67Zn0.28O3) and elimination of As (III) from aqueous solution.

The multi-component oxide (Al0.88Fe0.67Zn0.28O3)) surface (abbreviated as MCOS) was prepared to optimize the effectiveness of the elimination of As (III) from aqueous solution. The oxide surface was synthe-sized by co-precipitation method using corresponding metal carbonates. It was characterized by XRD, TGA and DSC. The surface morphology of MCOS was observed in SEM and the elemental analysis was accomplished by EDX. The composition of Al2O3, Fe2O3 & ZnO was 23.6, 39.9 and 20.6 wt% respectively in XRF analysis. The specific surface area was found 389.85 m2 g-1. Batch experiments were performed to remove As (III) from aqueous solution considering various parameters such as effect of pH, contact time, initial arsenic concentration, temperature and sor-bent dosage. The maximum sorption capacity of the surface was almost steady from pH 4 to pH 9. Kinetic study shows that As (III) sorption is following second order rate equation with the rate constant of 80×10-2 g mg-1 min-1 at room temperature and this rate was increased with increasing temperature which indicates the sorption was endothermic process. The free energy change, ΔGo was negative which proves that the sorption was spontaneous and thermodynamically favorable. sorption isotherm was interpreted by Langmuir equation and the maximum sorption capacity of oxide monolayer was 13×10-2 mg g-1.
