Consequences of bullying victimization in childhood and adolescence:A systematic review and meta-analysis

AIM To identify health and psychosocial problems associated with bullying victimization and conduct a meta-analysis summarizing the causal *** A systematic review was conducted using Pub Med, eMBASe, eRIC and Psyc INFO electronic databases up to 28 February 2015. The study included published longitudinal and cross-sectional articles that examined health and psychosocial consequences of bullying victimization. All meta-analyses were based on qualityeffects models. evidence for causality was assessed using Bradford Hill criteria and the grading system developed by the World Cancer Research *** Out of 317 articles assessed for eligibility, 165 satisfied the predetermined inclusion criteria for *** significant associations were observed between bullying victimization and a wide range of adverse health and psychosocial problems. The evidence was strongest for causal associations between bullying victimization and mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, poor general health and suicidal ideation and behaviours. Probable causal associations existed between bullying victimization and tobacco and illicit drug use. CONCLUSION Strong evidence exists for a causal relationship between bullying victimization, mental health problems and substance use. evidence also exists for associations between bullying victimization and other adverse health and psychosocial problems, however, there is insufficient evidence to conclude causality. The strong evidence that bullying victimization is causative of mental illness highlights the need for schools to implement effective interventions to address bullying behaviours.

Choroid plexus tumor necrosis factor receptor 1:a new neuroinflammatory piece of the complex Alzheimer's disease puzzle

The importance of non-carbonate mineral weathering as a soil formation mechanism within a karst weathering profile in the SPeCTRA Critical Zone Observatory, Guizhou Province,China

Soil degradation, including rocky desertification,of the karst regions in China is severe. Karst landscapes are especially sensitive to soil degradation as carbonate rocks are nutrient-poor and easily eroded. Understanding the balance between soil formation and soil erosion is critical for long-term soil sustainability, yet little is known about the initial soil forming processes on karst terrain. Herein we examine the initial weathering processes of several types of carbonate bedrock containing varying amounts of non-carbonate minerals in the SPeCTRA Critical Zone Observatory, Guizhou Province, Southwest China. We compared the weathering mechanisms of the bedrock to the mass transfer of mineral nutrients in a soil profile developed on these rocks and found that soil formation and nutrient contents are strongly dependent upon the weathering of interbedded layers of more silicate-rich bedrock(marls). Atmospheric inputs from dust were also detected.

Amount of polyhydramnios attributable to diabetes may be less than previously reported

AIM To evaluate the frequency and the quantity of polyhydramnios attributable to diabetes in *** The charts of patients with a four-quadrant amniotic fluid index(AFI) ≥ 20 cm and either a diagnosis of diabetes or a diabetes screening test during the index pregnancy were retrospectively reviewed. AFI was stratified into 5 categories and the frequency of diabetes was evaluated for each group. The frequency of polyhydramnios attributable to diabetes was compared to the frequency of polyhydramnios in the setting of fetal anomalies or no known cause. ReSULTS One thousand five hundred and forty-five patients were included in the study. eight point five percent(n = 131) had diabetes and no other cause for polyhydramnios. eleven point two percent(173) had antenatally diagnosed anomalies. For all categories of AFI except the largest(> 40.9 cm) the most common cause of polyhydramnios was idiopathic. In patients with diabetes the AFI was most likely to be between 26 cm and 35.9 *** The rate of polyhydramnios in this study is 8.5%. Patients with diabetes most commonly have mild polyhydramnios between 26 and 35.9 cm of fluid on a four-quadrant AFI.

In this paper,I introduce a new generalization of the concept of an operad,further generalizing the concept of an opetope introduced by Baez and Dolan(1998),who used this for the definition of their version of non-strict *** arise from iterating a certain construction on operads called the+-construction,starting with *** first step gives rise to plain operads,i.e.,operads without *** permutation axiom in a symmetric operad,however,is an additional structure resulting from permutations of variables,independent of the structure of a *** though we can apply the+-construction to symmetric operads,there is the possibility of introducing a completely different kind of permutations on the higher levels by again permuting variables without regard to the structures on the previous *** and investigating these structures is the main purpose of this *** structures obtained in this way are what I call *** n-actads with n>1,the permutations on the different levels give rise to a certain special kind of n-fold category.I also explore the concept of iterated algebras over an n-actad(generalizing an algebra and a module over an operad),and various types of iterated units.I give some examples of algebras over 2-actads,and show how they can be used to construct certain new interesting homotopy types of operads.I also discuss a connection between actads and ordinal notation.

Microbiological safety of spices and their interaction with antibiotics:implications for antimicrobial resistance and their role as potential antibiotic adjuncts

Objectives:A study was undertaken to:*** contaminating bacteria on a variety of spices purchased at retail market;*** if spice bacterial enrichments alter the phenotype of 13 bacterial foodborne and clinical pathogens and 1 probiotic organism;and *** if spices can alter antimicrobial activity of seven clinical antibiotics against 16 bacterial foodborne/clinical *** and Methods:Microbiological examination was undertaken employing 27 spice varieties with four antibiotics and 15 bacterial ***:Bacteriological contamination levels varied amongst spice varieties,ranging from Kasmin chilli powder(7.5×10^(6)cfu/g;log10^(6).88 cfu/g)to ginger(1.5×10^(4)cfu/g;log_(10)4.18 cfu/g);mean contamination was 1.38×10^(6)cfu/g(log_(10)6.14 cfu/g).Four species within the genus Bacillus were identified(Bacillus megaterium,Bacillus subtilis,Bacillus licheniformis,and Bacillus cereus).There was no phenotypic difference with the 14 bacteria,with bacterial colony growth/proliferation,pigment production,or with adhesin and mucoid *** of the spice cultures inhibited any of the 14 bacterial species *** the case of doxycycline,amoxicillin,colistin,erythromycin,and piperacillin/tazobactam,the zone of inhibition increased with the inclusion of the 26 spice varieties,suggesting that the spices were interacting synergistically with the antibiotic,thus making the antibiotic more potent against the bacteria ***:This study demonstrates a positive interaction between spices and conventional *** the burden of antimicrobial resistance(AMR)worldwide,but particularly in South Asian countries(India and Pakistan),any food-related innovation that can help maximize the potency of existing antibiotics is to be encouraged and *** specific mechanism as to how spices increase the potency of antibiotics needs to be elucidated,as well as novel food(spice)delivery modalities including novel medicinal foo

Dietary enrichment of edible insects with omega 3 fatty acids

edible insects are advocated as sustainable and healthy food and ***,commercially produced insects are often low in n‐3 fatty acids and have suboptimal n‐6/n‐3 ratios.A certain amount and proportion of these FAs is required to optimize human *** oil consists primarily(57%)out of alpha‐linolenic *** experiment was conducted to quantify the effect of flaxseed oil provision on fatty acid composition and to determine the quantity needed to attain a beneficial n‐6/n‐3 *** species were used in the experiment:house crickets(Acheta domesticus[L.]),lesser mealworms(Alphitobius diaperinus[Pfanzer])and black soldier flies(Hermetia illucens[L.]).These were provided with either a control diet or a diet enriched with 1%,2%,or 4%flaxseed oil during their larval/nymphal *** acid profiles of diets and insects were determined via GC‐*** three species had distinct fatty acid profiles on all four diets,but responded similarly to flaxseed oil *** each percent added to the diet,the alpha‐linolenic acid content of the insects increased by 2.3%–2.7%.Four percent addition increased the n‐3 fatty acid content 10–20 fold in the three species and thereby strongly decreased n‐6/n‐3 ratios from 18–36 to 0.8–2.4.A ratio below 5 is considered optimal for human health and was achieved by 2%flaxseed oil inclusion for house crickets and lesser mealworms,and at 1%inclusion for black soldier *** a source of n‐3 fatty acids to insect diets can thus improve the nutritional quality of insects.

HYDROCHeMISTRY OF KARST SPRINGS FROM TWO CARBONATIC UNITS IN ZAGROSIDeS OF IRAN

119 Karst Springs, all with electric conductivity of less than 500 um/cm, discharging two carbonatic aquifers in Zagrosides of Iran are chosen and studied. The results indicate that the lithology of each Unit is well reflected in the chemistry of springs and the overall mineralogical composition of the aquifer can successfully be reconstructed from the hydrochemistry of the springs using a mass balance approach. The comparison of the chemistry of springs reveals that the significant difference are due to the dolomitic nature of one of the studied aquifers.

Bedrock aquifers and population growth in the Denver Basin, Colorado, USA

The Denver Basin bedrock aquifer system consists of Tertiary and Cretaceous age sedimentary rocks known as the Dawson, Denver, Arapahoe and Laramie-Fox Hills aquifers. The number of bedrock wells has increased from 12,000 in 1985 to over 33,700 in 2001 and the withdrawal of groundwater has caused water level declines in excess of 75 meters. Water level declines now range from 3 to 12 meters per year in the critical Arapahoe Aquifer. The groundwater supplies were once thought to be sufficient for 100 years but there is concern that they may be depleted in 10 to 15 years in areas on the west side of the basin. Groundwater is being mined from the aquifer system because the withdrawal through wells exceeds the rate of recharge. Increased groundwater withdrawal will cause further water level declines, increased costs to pump groundwater, and reduced yield from existing wells. In the Denver Basin, hydrologists have some capability to monitor declines in water levels for the Arapaho Aquifer, but generally have a limited ability to monitor water use. More complete and accurate water use data are needed to predict groundwater longevity for the Arapahoe Aquifer. The life of the Arapahoe Aquifer can be extended with artificial recharge using imported surface water, water reuse, restrictions on lawn watering, well permit restrictions and other conservation measures. Availability of groundwater may limit growth in the Denver Basin over the next 20 years unless residents are willing to pay for additional new sources of supply.
