Fabrication of the Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn alloy with excellent mechanical performance using selective laser melting(SLM)technology is quite difﬁcult owing to the poor weldability and low boiling *** address these challenges and seek the optimal processing parameters,response surface methodology was systematically utilized to determine the appropriate SLM parameter ***–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn sample with high relative density(99.5±0.28%)and favorable mechanical properties(microhardness=95.6±5.28 HV_(0.1),UTS=370.2 MPa,and At=10.4%)was achieved using optimized SLM parameters(P=120 W,v=500 mm/s,and h=45μm).Sample is dominated by a random texture and microstructure is primarily constituted by quantities ofﬁne equiaxed grains(α-Mg phase),a small amount ofβ-Al_(12)Mg_(17) structures(4.96 vol%,including spherical:[2110]_(α)//[111]_(β)and long lath-like:[2110]_(α)//[115]_(β)or[1011]_(α)//[321]_(β)),and some short rod-shaped Al8Mn5 ***ﬁting from grain boundary strengthening,solid solution strengthening,and precipitation hardening of various nanoparticles(β-Al12Mg17 and Al8Mn5),high-performance Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn alloy biomedical implants can be *** hardening dominates the strengthening mechanism of the SLM Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.5Mn alloy.

A likely role for the PH-domain containing protein, PEPP2/ PLEKHA5, at the membrane-microtubule cytoskeleton interface

PH(pleckstrin homology)domains are well known to bind membrane phosphoinositides with different specificities and direct PH domain-containing proteins to discrete subcellular compartments with assistances of alternative binding *** domain-containing proteins have been found to be involved in a wide range of cellular events,including signalling,cytoskeleton rearrangement and vesicular *** we showed that a novel PH domain-containing protein,PEPP2(also known as PLEKHA5),displays moderate phosphoinositide binding *** length PEPP2 was observed to variably associate with both the plasma membrane and *** membrane-associated PEPP2 nucleated at cell-cell contacts and the leading edge of migrating *** of PEPP2 increased membrane microviscosity,indicating a potential role for PEPP2 in regulating function of microtubule-dependent membrane functions.

Among the techniques developed to prepare nanoparticle wires for multiple applications, the colloidal deposition method at interface has been regarded as cost-efficient and eco-friendly, and hence has attracted an increasing amount of research attention. In this report, the recent developments in preparing nanoparticle wires and integrated nanoparticle wire arrays using this technique have been reviewed. Furthermore, we have also discussed the application of these nanoparticle structures in detecting chemical and biological molecules.

Shifting equilibriums in Alzheimer’s disease: the complex roles of microglia in neuroinflammation, neuronal survival and neurogenesis

Response to strict and liberalized specific carbohydrate dietin pediatric crohn's disease

AIM: To investigate the specific carbohydrate diet(ScD) as nutritional therapy for maintenance of remission in pediatric crohn's disease(cD). METHODS: Retrospective chart review was conducted in 11 pediatric patients with cD who initiated the ScD as therapy at time of diagnosis or flare. Two groups defined as ScD simple(diet alone, antibiotics or 5-ASA) or ScD with immunomodulators(corticosteroids and/or stable thiopurine dosing) were followed for one year and compared on disease characteristics, laboratory values and ***: The mean age at start of the ScD was 11.8 ± 3.0 years(range 6.6-17.6 years) with five patients starting the ScD within 5 wk of diagnosis. Three patients maintained a strict ScD diet for the study period and the mean time for liberalization was 7.7 ± 4.0 mo(range 1-12) for the remaining patients. In both groups, hematocrit, albumin and ESR values improved while on strict ScD and appeared stable after liberalization(P-value 0.006, 0.002, 0.002 respectively). The majority of children gained in weight and height percentile while on strict ScD, with small loss in weight percentile documented with liberalization. cONcLUSION: Disease control may be attainable with the ScD in pediatric cD. Further studies are needed to assess adherence, impact on mucosal healing and growth.

Tumour induced osteomalacia due to a sinonasal hemangiopericytoma:A case report

Tumour induced osteomalacia(TIO) is a rare and often unrecognized cause of hypophosphatemia. We report on a case of TIO due to a hemangiopericytoma originating from the left nasal sinus. The patient was a 55-year-old male with a 3-year history of left hip pain and an undisplaced left hip fracture. Biochemical testing demonstrated low levels of serum phosphate and serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, and an elevated level of fibroblast growth factor 23. Octreotide scanning demonstrated uptake in the left nasal sinus area and a computed tomography scan revealed a left nasal sinus mass. The patient underwent surgical resection of the mass and histology was consistent with a sinonasal hemangiopericytoma. His serum phosphate levels normalized almost immediately after surgery and he had complete resolution of hip pain. Our case highlights the importance of considering TIO when assessing patients with low serum phosphate.

Three-dimensional light structure of an upland Quercus stand post-tornado disturbance

Light is the most common limiting factor in forest plant communities,influencing species composition,stand structure,and stand productivity in closed canopy *** vertical light structure is relatively simple under a closed canopy because most light is captured by overstory ***,wind disturbance events create canopy openings from local to landscape scales that increase understory light intensity and vertical light structural *** studied the effects of an EF-1 tornado on horizontal and vertical(***-dimensional)light structure within a Quercus stand to determine how light structure changed with increasing disturbance *** used a two-tiered method to collect photosynthetic photon flux density at 4.67 m and 1.37 m above the forest floor to construct three-dimensional light structure across a canopy disturbance severity gradient to see if light intensity varied with increasing tornado *** indicate that increased canopy disturbance closer to the tornado track increased light penetration and light structure heterogeneity at lower forest *** light intensity correlated with increased sapling density that was more randomly distributed across the plot and had shifted light capture higher in the stand *** penetration through the overstory was most strongly correlated with decreased stem density in the two most important tree species(based on relative dominance and relative density)in the stand,Quercus alba L.(r=-0.31)and Ostrya virginiana(Mill.)***(r=-0.27,pcated that understory light penetration was most affected by these two *** managers are increasingly interested in patterning silvicultural entries on natural disturbances,they must understand residual stand and light structures that occur after natural disturbance *** providing spatial light data that quantifies light structure post-disturbance,managers can use these results to improve planning required for long-term man

Equal Sex Ratios of a Marine Green Alga, Bryopsis plumosa

By finding some important culture conditions as below, we succeeded in experimentally controlling the whole life history of a dioecious marine green alga, Bryopsis plumosa （Hudson） c. Agardh. In this study, we focused on the primary and secondary sex ratios （i.e. at inception and maturity） using these culture techniques. Gametogenesis was induced by culturing haploid gametophytes with Provasoli＇s enriched seawater （PES） medium under a 14：10 h light： dark cycle at 14 ℃. Formed zygotes grew into diploid sporophytes, which were cultured for 3 months with PES medium under a 14：10 h light ： nbsp;dark cycle at 18℃. Then they were transferred into Schreiber medium and cultured under a 10：14 h light： dark cycle at 22℃. Within 1 week, zoosporogenesis was observed. Zoospores were released within a couple of days. Each zoospore soon germinated and grew into a unisexual gametophyte. The primary sex ratio was examined in gametophytes that originated from a single sporophyte. The secondary sex ratio was studied in the field. Both were estimated as 1：1. Synchronized meiotic cell divisions might occur during zoosporogenesis dividing each sex-determining factor evenly among zoospores. Given the equal sex ratio at maturity, there seems to be no environmental factor that differentially affects the survival of male or female gametophytes in nature.
