Colors of vegetables and fruits and the risks of colorectal cancer

AIM To investigate the relationship between the colors of vegetables and fruits and the risk of colorectal cancer in *** A case-control study was conducted with 923 colorectal cancer patients and 1846 controls recruited from the National Cancer Center in Korea. We classified vegetables and fruits into four groups according to the color of their edible parts(e.g., green, orange/yellow, red/purple and white). Vegetable and fruit intake level was classified by sex-specific tertile of the control group. Logistic regression models were used for estimating the odds ratios(OR) and their 95% confidence intervals(CI).RESULTS High total intake of vegetables and fruits was strongly associated with a reduced risk of colorectal cancer in women(OR = 0.32, 95%CI: 0.21-0.48 for highest vs lowest tertile) and a similar inverse association was observed for men(OR = 0.60, 95%CI: 0.45-0.79). In the analysis of color groups, adjusted ORs(95%CI) comparing the highest to the lowest of the vegetables and fruits intake were 0.49(0.36-0.65) for green, and 0.47(0.35-0.63) for white vegetables and fruits in men. An inverse association was also found in women for green, red/purple and white vegetables and fruits. However, in men, orange/yellow vegetables and fruits(citrus fruits, carrot, pumpkin, peach, persimmon, ginger) intake was linked to an increased risk of colorectal cancer(OR = 1.61, 95%CI: 1.22-2.12).CONCLUSION Vegetables and fruits intake from various color groups may protect against colorectal cancer.

Air jet loom, as one of the shuttleless looms, transports a yam into warps using viscosity and kinetic energy of an air jet. Performance of this picking system depends on the ability of instantaneous inhalation/exhaust, configuration of nozzle, operation characteristics of a check valve, etc. In the recent past, many studies have been reported on the air jet discharged from a nozzle exit, but studies for understanding the flow field characteristics associated with shear layer and shock wave/boundary layer interaction in the nozzle were not conducted enough. In this paper, a computational study was performed to explain the flow field in the air jet nozzle with an acceleration tube and validated with previous experimental data available. The results obtained from the computational study show that, in the supersonic flow regime, the flow field depends significantly on the length of acceleration tube. As nozzle pressure ratio increases, drag force acting on the string also increases. For a longer acceleration tube, the total pressure loss is large, owing to the frictional loss.

BACKGROUND Craniofacial necrotizing fasciitis(CNF)is an uncommon but fatal infection that can spread rapidly through the subfascial planes in the head and neck *** usually progress rapidly,and early management is necessary to optimize *** SUMMARY A 43-year-old man visited our hospital with left hemifacial swelling involving the buccal and submandibular *** patient had fever for approximately 10 d before visiting the hospital,but did not report any other systemic *** tomography scan demonstrated an abscess with gas *** surgical drainage of the facial abscess,the patient’s systemic condition worsened and progressed to septic *** examination revealed pulmonary and renal *** percutaneous catheter drainage was performed at the renal abscess site,which caused improvement of *** patient showed no evidence of systemic complications during the 4-mo post-operative follow-up *** As the patient did not improve with conventional CNF treatment and symptoms only resolved after controlling the infection,the final diagnosis was secondary CNF with septic *** surgical decompression is important for CNF ***,if symptoms worsen despite early diagnosis and management,such as pus drainage and surgical intervention,clinicians should consider the possibility of a secondary abscess from internal organs.

In the early days of IoT’s introduction, it was challenging to introduce encryption communication due to the lackof performance of each component, such as computing resources like CPUs and batteries, to encrypt and decryptdata. Because IoT is applied and utilized in many important fields, a cyberattack on IoT can result in astronomicalfinancial and human casualties. For this reason, the application of encrypted communication to IoT has beenrequired, and the application of encrypted communication to IoT has become possible due to improvements inthe computing performance of IoT devices and the development of lightweight cryptography. The applicationof encrypted communication in IoT has made it possible to use encrypted communication channels to launchcyberattacks. The approach of extracting evidence of an attack based on the primary information of a networkpacket is no longer valid because critical information, such as the payload in a network packet, is encrypted byencrypted communication. For this reason, technology that can detect cyberattacks over encrypted network trafficoccurring in IoT environments is required. Therefore, this research proposes an encrypted cyberattack detectionsystem for the IoT (ECDS-IoT) that derives valid features for cyberattack detection from the cryptographic networktraffic generated in the IoT environment and performs cyberattack detection based on the derived features. ECDS-IoT identifies identifiable information from encrypted traffic collected in IoT environments and extracts statistics-based features through statistical analysis of identifiable information. ECDS-IoT understands information aboutnormal data by learning only statistical features extracted from normal data. ECDS-IoT detects cyberattacks basedonly on the normal data information it has trained. We investigated whether inhibiting phosphorylated p70S6K （p-p70S6K） suppresses the proliferation and growth of noninvasive low-grade urothelial carcinoma （LG-URCa） in vitro and whether p-p70S6K can serve as a predictive biomarker for the recurrence of noninvasive LG-URCa of the bladder in patients. We constructed a tissue microarray （TMA） for 95 LG-URCa and 35 benign urothelium samples and performed immunohistochemical staining for p-p70S6K and p-4E-BP1. A Cox regression model was used to investigate the predictive factors for recurrence of LG-URCa. We investigated the dose-dependent antiproliferative effect of rapamycin, its antiproliferative effect and the growth-inhibition effect of p70S6K siRNA transfection in RT4 and 253J cell lines. The pT1 staged group （P 〈 0.05; hazard ratio （HR）, 2.415） and the high p-p70S6K staining group （P 〈 0.05; HR, 2.249） were independent factors for predicting recurrence. Rapamycin inhibited RT4 and 253J cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner （r = -0.850, P 〈 0.001 in RT4 cells; r = -0.835, P 〈 0.001 in 253J cells）. RT4 and 253J cell proliferation and growth were inhibited by the transfection of p70S6K siRNA and rapamycin, respectively （P 〈 0.05）. Transfection of p70S6K siRNA resulted in inhibitory effects on cell proliferation and growth that were similar to those of rapamycin. Our results suggest that inhibiting p70S6K phosphorylation is important to prevent recurrence and that p70S6K phosphorylation can be used as a molecular biomarker to predict recurrence of certain LG-URCa of the bladder.

Automatically segmenting crops and weeds in the image input from cameras accurately is essential in various agricultural technology fields,such as herbicide spraying by farming robots based on crop and weed segmentation ***,crop and weed images taken with a camera have motion blur due to various causes(e.g.,vibration or shaking of a camera on farming robots,shaking of crops and weeds),which reduces the accuracy of crop and weed ***,robust crop and weed segmentation for motion-blurred images is ***,previous crop and weed segmentation studies were performed without considering motion-blurred *** solve this problem,this study proposed a new motion-blur image restoration method based on a wide receptive field attention network(WRA-Net),based on which we investigated improving crop and weed segmentation accuracy in motion-blurred ***-Net comprises a main block called a lite wide receptive field attention residual block,which comprises modified depthwise separable convolutional blocks,an attention gate,and a learnable skip *** conducted experiments using the proposed method with 3 open databases:BoniRob,crop/weed field image,and rice seedling and weed *** to the results,the crop and weed segmentation accuracy based on mean intersection over union was 0.7444,0.7741,and 0.7149,respectively,demonstrating that this method outperformed the state-of-the-art methods.

AIM: To investigate the impact of high-dose hepatitis B immunoglobulin(HBIG) on hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and hepatitis B virus(HBV) recurrence and overall survival after living donor liver transplantation(LDLT).METHODS: We investigated 168 patients who underwent LDLT due to HCC, and who were HBV-DNA/hepatitis B e antigen(HBe Ag)-positive, from January 2008 to December 2013. After assessing whether the patients met the Milan criteria, they were assigned to the low-dose HBIG group and high-dose HBIG group. Using the propensity score 1:1 matching method, 38 and 18 pairs were defined as adhering to and not adhering to the Milan criteria. For each pair, HCC recurrence, HBV recurrence and overall survival were analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method and the log rank test according to the HBIG dose. RESULTS: Among those who met the Milan criteria, the 6-mo, 1-year, and 3-year HCC recurrence-free survival rates were 88.9%, 83.2%, and 83.2% in the low-dose HBIG group and 97.2%, 97.2%, and 97.2% in the high-dose HBIG group, respectively(P = 0.042).In contrast, among those who did not meet the Milan criteria, HCC recurrence did not differ according to the HBIG dose(P = 0.937). Moreover, HBV recurrence and overall survival did not differ according to the HBIG dose among those who met(P = 0.317 and 0.190, respectively) and did not meet(P = 0.350 and 0.987, respectively) the Milan criteria. CONCLUSION: High-dose HBIG therapy can reduce HCC recurrence in HBV-DNA/HBe Ag-positive patients after LDLT.
