Simple aspects of femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy

Femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy （FSRS）, using an overlapping pair of narrow band Raman pump and broadband probe pulses with heterodyne detection along the probe pulse direction, is a new nonlinear spectroscopic technique to record vibrational spectra of even highly fluorescent molecules and to study vibrational dynamics on excited electronic states of molecules, as in photoisomerization. FSRS is described by diagrammatic third-order perturbation theory with wave packet analysis. The phase matching condition gives rise to forty-eight terms for FSRS, but the resonant condition reduces it to just eight terms, which can be depicted by Feynman dual time-line diagrams, or closed time path loop diagrams, or the complementary four-wave mixing energy level diagrams. The eight terms fall into four sets-SRS（I）, SRS（Ⅱ）, IRS（I）, IRS（Ⅱ）-where SRS stands for stimulated Raman scattering and IRS stands for inverse Raman scattering. The SRS（I） set can also account for spontaneous Raman scattering, but the remaining SRS（Ⅱ）, IRS（I） and IRS（Ⅱ） terms are only present in stimulated scattering with the presence of a probe field. The SRS（I） set accounts for the Stokes Raman lines while the IRS（I） term accounts for the anti-Stokes lines, relative to the Raman pump frequency, in the FSRS spectrum. The remaining SRS（Ⅱ） and IRS（Ⅱ） terms give rise to broad baselines. Using a harmonic oscillator model, analytic results are obtained for the four-time correlation functions in the third-order polarizations. The issue of high time and high frequency resolution in time-resolved FSRS spectra is discussed. Calculations are made with the theory to compare with experimental results for：（a） resonance FSRS of fluorescent Rhodamine 6G and （b） 2D-FSRS from a coherent vibrational state that has been prepared by an impulsive, off-resonant pump pulse on CDCl3. In the era of miniaturization,the one-dimensional nanostructures presented numerous possibilities to realize operational nanosensors and devices by tuning their electrical transport *** size reduction,the physical properties of materials become extremely challenging to characterize and understand due to the complex interplay among structures,surface properties,strain effects,distribution of grains,and their internal coupling *** this report,we demonstrate the fabrication of a single metal-carbon composite nanowire inside a diamondanvil-cell and examine the in situ pressure-driven electrical transport *** nanowire manifests a rapid and reversible pressure dependence of the strong nonlinear electrical conductivity with significant zero-bias differential conduction revealing a quantum tunneling dominant carrier transport *** fully rationalize our observations on the basis of a metal-carbon framework in a highly compressed nanowire corroborating a quantum-tunneling boundary,in addition to a classical percolation boundary that exists beyond the percolation *** structural phase progressions were monitored to evidence the pressure-induced shape reconstruction of the metallic grains and modification of their intergrain interactions for successful explanation of the electrical transport *** pronounced sensitivity of electrical conductivity to an external pressure stimulus provides a rationale to design low-dimensional advanced pressure sensing devices.

Invar alloy consisting of 64% iron and 36% nickel has been widely used for the production of shadow masks for organic light emitting diodes（OLEDs） because of its low thermal expansion coefficient（1.86 × 10^-6cm/°C）.To fabricate micro-hole arrays on 30 lm invar alloy film,through-mask electrochemical micromachining（TMEMM） was developed and combined with a portion of the photolithography etching *** precise hole shapes,patterned photoresist（PR） film was applied as an insulating *** investigate the relationship between the current density and the material removal rate,the principle of the electrochemical machining was studied with a focus on the *** finite element method（FEM） was used to verify the influence of each parameter on the current density on the invar alloy film *** parameters considered were the thickness of the PR mask,inter-electrode gap（IEG）,and electrolyte *** of experiments（DOE） was used to figure out the contribution of each parameter.A simulation was conducted with varying parameters to figure out their relationships with the current *** was conducted to select the suitable *** experiment was carried out to verify the simulation *** was possible to fabricate micro-hole arrays on invar alloy film using TMEMM,which is a promising method that can be applied to fabrications of OLEDs shadow masks.

Kale Juice Improves Coronary Artery Disease Risk Factors in Hypercholesterolemic Men

Objective To evaluate the effect of 3-month kale （Brassica oleracea acephala） juice supplementation on coronary artery disease risk factors among hypercholesterolemic men. Methods Thirty-two men with hypercholesterolemia （〉 200 mg/dL） were recruited after annual health examinations among the faculty and staff at university. The subjects consumed 150 mL of kale juice per day for a 12-week intervention period. Dietary and anthropometric assessments were performed and blood samples were collected to evaluate biochemical profiles before and after supplementation. Results Serum concentrations of HDL-cholesterol, and HDL- to LDL-cholesterol ratio were significantly increased by 27% （P〈0.0001） and 52% （P〈0.0001）, respectively. The LDL-cholesterol concentration and the atherogenic index were significantly reduced by 10% （P=0.0007） and 24.2% （P〈0.0001）, respectively without affecting body mass index, waist and hip circumferences, or nutrient intakes after three months of supplementation. While there was no difference in the concentration of malondialdehyde, significant increase in glutathione peroxidase activity （P=0.0005） were accompanied by a significant increase in the serum selenium level （P=0.0132）. It was also found that the responses of these risk factors to kale juice administration were dependent on smoking status. Conclusion Regular meals supplementation with kale juice can favorably influence serum lipid profiles and antioxidant systems, and hence contribute to reduce the risks of coronary artery disease in male subjects with hyperlipidemia.

Background To evaluate the association between retinal artery/arteriole occlusion(RAO)and unruptured intracranial aneurysm(UIA).Methods Incident UIA patients from a nationwide cohort(n=253240)were categorised into three groups based on subsequent treatment:observation(n=208993),microsurgical clipping(n=14168)and endovascular treatment(EVT)groups(n=30079).The incidence and the incident time of RAO were *** of RAO and associated risk factors were ***,a hospital cohort comprising 2569 consecutive UIA patients treated at a tertiary hospital was analysed with detailed clinical information of *** In the nationwide cohort analysis,the incidence of RAO was significantly higher in EVT group than in observation and clipping groups,especially within 60 days(early RAO(within 60 days):HR=4.00,95%CI:2.44 to 6.56);delayed RAO(after 60 days:HR=1.74,95%CI:1.13 to 2.68).Multivariable analysis showed that the presence of chronic kidney disease(p=0.009)and use of a balloon microcatheter during the procedure(p=0.013)were associated with a higher risk of *** hospital cohort analysis,11(0.8%)cases of RAO occurred after EVT,whereas none occurred after microsurgical clipping(phould be taken when treating paraclinoid aneurysms with balloon microcatheters.

Sound transducer calibration of ambulatory audiometric system utilizing delta learning rule

An efficient calibration algorithm for an ambulatory audiometric test system is proposed. This system utilizes a personal digital assistant (PDA) device to generate the correct sound pressure level (SPL) from an audiometric transducer such as an earphone. The calibrated sound intensities for an audio-logical examination can be obtained in terms of the sound pressure levels of pure-tonal sinusoidal signals in eight-banded frequency ranges (250, 500, 1 000, 2 000, 3 000, 4 000, 6 000 and 8 000 Hz), and with mapping of the input sound pressure levels by the weight coefficients that are tuned by the delta learning rule. With this scheme, the sound intensities, which evoke eight-banded sound pressure levels by 5 dB steps from a minimum of 25 dB to a maximum of 80 dB, can be generated without volume displacement. Consequently, these sound intensities can be utilized to accurately determine the hearing threshold of a subject in the ambulatory audiometric testing environment.

Amine functionalization on thermal and mechanical behaviors of graphite nanofibers-loaded epoxy composites

With the growing demand for faster and more powerful computing,effective heat dissipation is essential to ensure the longevity,reliability,and high performance of electronic *** the field of modern electronic packaging materials,there is a great need for graphitic material-loaded polymeric composites(GPCs)with excellent thermal ***,the enhancement efficiency of GPCs is hindered by the agglomeration of fillers and the interfacial thermal resistance caused by the lack of continuous thermally conductive pathways between the filler and *** the interfaces between filler and matrix is of great importance in optimizing the performances of ***,we fabricated graphite nanofibers(GNF)-loaded nanocomposites using acid-functionalized GNF(AGNF)and acidtetraethylenepentamine-functionalized(TGNF)as a filler and epoxy resin as a matrix with different GNF loading contents to explore the interfacial properties of the *** optimal GNF loading for AGNF was 0.5 wt.%,while the TGNF showed 0.75 wt.%.The highest thermal conductivity(0.51 W m^(−1) K^(−1))and fracture toughness(25.8 MPa m^(1/2))values were found in the TGNF-loaded nanocomposites with a fraction of 0.75 wt.%,representing enhancements of∼145%and∼400%,respectively,compared to those of neat *** experimental data presented herein demonstrate that the interfacial properties play a significant role in enhancing the thermal and mechanical performances of the *** present approach is expected to serve as a valuable tool in the design of conductive polymeric nanocomposites for further practical applications,such as thermal interface materials and packaging of high-power electric devices.

Based on the time-dependent theory, an analysis of the distinction between resonance Raman (RR) and resonance fluorescence (RF) with pulse excitation was presented. The real population of the intermediate state gives two optical components-the independent time evolution of intermediate ket and bra states generates RR while RF originates from the phase coherent between ket and bra states. In cw limit, the transition probability of spontaneous emission with pulse excitation can be reduced to the classical theory.
