BACKGROUND Spontaneous pneumoperitoneum(SP) without gastrointestinal perforation rarely occurs in neonates, with most SP cases being idiopathic. Although SP usually follows a benign clinical course with favorable prognosis, it can become lifethreatening in certain situations. In these cases, urgent surgical intervention may be required. Therefore, it may be difficult to decide when or how to perform prompt *** To demonstrate the distinct clinical features of SP to guide appropriate management by comparing characteristics between SP and typical pneumoperitoneum secondary to gastrointestinal *** We retrospectively reviewed electronic medical records and identified 37 neonates with radiological evidence of pneumoperitoneum who were treated at our institution. Clinical variables were compared between neonates with SP without gastrointestinal perforation(Group A) and those with pneumoperitoneum secondary to gastrointestinal perforation(Group B). Clinical variables between groups were compared using Student’s t-test and the chi-square test. The risk factors related to mortality were examined using multi-logistic regression *** Group A comprised 35.1%(13/37) of the patients. The frequency of persistent pulmonary hypertension(53.8%) and pneumothorax(46.2%) before the development of pneumoperitoneum was significantly higher in group A than in group B(P =0.004). Platelet count and partial pressure of arterial oxygen(PaO) were significantly lower in group A(P = 0.015 and 0.025, respectively). Overall mortality was significantly higher in group A than in group B(76.9% vs 16.7%, P = 0.001). Only preterm infants were significantly associated with high mortality(P = 0.041;odds ratio = 18.0). The commercial AZ91 alloy and nonflammable SEN9(AZ91-0.3Ca-0.2Y,wt%)alloy are extruded at 300°C and 400°*** microstructure,tensile and compressive properties,and low-cycle fatigue(LCF)properties are investigated,with particular focus on the influence of the extrusion *** the AZ91 and SEN9 materials extruded at 300°C(300-materials),numerous fine Mg_(17)Al_(12)particles are inhomogeneously distributed owing to localized dynamic precipitation during extrusion,unlike those extruded at 400°C(400-materials).These fine particles suppress the coarsening of recrystallized grains,decreasing the average grain size of *** the four extruded materials have considerably different microstructures,the difference in their tensile yield strengths is insignificant because strong grain-boundary hardening and precipitation hardening effects in 300-materials are offset almost completely by a strong texture hardening effect in ***,owing to their finer grains and weaker texture,300-materials have higher compressive yield strengths *** the LCF tests,{10-12}twinning is activated at lower stresses in 400-materials than in *** the fatigue damage accumulated per cycle is smaller in 400-materials,they have longer fatigue lives than those of 300-materials.A fatigue life prediction model for the investigated materials is established on the basis of the relationship between the total strain energy density(ΔW_(t))and the number of cycles to fatigue failure(N_(f)),and it is expressed through a simple equation(ΔW_(t)=10·N_(f)-0.59).This model enables fatigue life prediction of both the investigated alloys regardless of the extrusion temperature and strain amplitude.

With the growing demand for faster and more powerful computing,effective heat dissipation is essential to ensure the longevity,reliability,and high performance of electronic *** the field of modern electronic packaging materials,there is a great need for graphitic material-loaded polymeric composites(GPCs)with excellent thermal ***,the enhancement efficiency of GPCs is hindered by the agglomeration of fillers and the interfacial thermal resistance caused by the lack of continuous thermally conductive pathways between the filler and *** the interfaces between filler and matrix is of great importance in optimizing the performances of ***,we fabricated graphite nanofibers(GNF)-loaded nanocomposites using acid-functionalized GNF(AGNF)and acidtetraethylenepentamine-functionalized(TGNF)as a filler and epoxy resin as a matrix with different GNF loading contents to explore the interfacial properties of the *** optimal GNF loading for AGNF was 0.5 wt.%,while the TGNF showed 0.75 wt.%.The highest thermal conductivity(0.51 W m^(−1) K^(−1))and fracture toughness(25.8 MPa m^(1/2))values were found in the TGNF-loaded nanocomposites with a fraction of 0.75 wt.%,representing enhancements of∼145%and∼400%,respectively,compared to those of neat *** experimental data presented herein demonstrate that the interfacial properties play a significant role in enhancing the thermal and mechanical performances of the *** present approach is expected to serve as a valuable tool in the design of conductive polymeric nanocomposites for further practical applications,such as thermal interface materials and packaging of high-power electric devices.

BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation(AF)is the most common arrhythmia developing in postoperative *** data are available regarding pre-operative risk factors and prognostic impact of post-operative AF(POAF)following hip fracture surgery(HFS)in Korean *** We aimed to investigate the incidence,predictors,and hospital prognosis of POAF in HFS *** This study included 245 patients without history of AF who underwent HFS between August 2014 and November *** was defined as new-onset AF that occurred during hospitalization after *** Twenty patients(8.2%)experienced POAF after *** developed on median post-operative day 2(interquartile range,1–3).Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that age[odds ratio(OR),1.111;95%confidence interval(CI),1.022–1.209],chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)(OR,6.352;95%CI,1.561–25.841)and E/e’ratio(OR,1.174;95%CI,1.002–1.376)were significant predictors of *** with POAF had a significantly higher intensive care unit admission rate(55.0%vs 14.7%,P<0.001)and incidence of congestive heart failure(45.0%vs 10.7%,P<0.001).In multivariable logistic regression analysis,POAF was significantly associated with increased incidence of congestive heart failure(OR,4.856;95%CI,1.437–16.411)and intensive care unit admission(OR,6.615;95%CI,2.112–20.718).CONCLUSION POAF was frequently developed in elderly patients following ***,COPD and elevated E/e’ratio were found as significant predictors of POAF in HFS *** with POAF significantly experienced intensive care unit admission and incident congestive heart failure during hospitalization.

The design and optimization of a self-complementary two-arm Archimedean spiral antenna backed by an absorptive cavity were presented. Parametric studies on the proposed antenna structure were carried out by using CST MWS. Simulation results show that the proper choice of spiral turns and cavity depth can miniaturize the dimensions of the cavity-backed spiral antenna presented here. According to simulation results, prototype antennas operating in the 6 12 GHz band are fabricated and the dimension of the proposed cavity-backed spiral antenna is 22 mm (diameter)×15 mm (height). The performance of the proposed antenna was measured and compared with the simulation results. It is shown that the experimental results are consistent with the theoretical predictions and the suggested antenna is good enough to adapt for various wideband applications.
