Malignant pleural mesothelioma(MPM)is a rare tumor with poor prognosis and rising *** care is common in MPM as radical treatment with curative intent is often not possible due to metastasis or extensive locoregional *** therapeutic advances have been made in recent years,including the use of less aggressive surgical techniques associated with lower morbidity and mortality(e.g.,pleurectomy/decortication),technological advancements in the field of radiotherapy(intensity-modulated radiotherapy,image-guided radiotherapy,stereotactic body radiotherapy,proton therapy),and developments in systemic therapies(chemotherapy and immunotherapy).These improvements have had as yet only a modest effect on local control and *** in the management of MPM and standardization of care are hampered by the evidence to date,limited by high heterogeneity among studies and small sample *** this clinical guideline prepared by the oncological group for the study of lung cancer of the Spanish Society of Radiation Oncology,we review clinical,histologic,and therapeutic aspects of MPM,with a particular focus on all aspects relating to radiotherapy,including the current evidence base,associations with chemotherapy and surgery,treatment volumes and planning,technological advances,and reradiation.

We present the first, to our knowledge, growth of heavily p-type GaAs epilayers (>10 cm) on high-index GaAs substrates by using the metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). It is of importance to obtain heavily doped high-index planes in order to fabricate nanostructured optoelectronic devices using nonplanar GaAs substrates, since a heavily p-type epilayer is required for a good ohmic contact.

This study scrutinized the possibility of finding toxicant or deterrent plant metabolites against the dry wood termite Incisitermes marginipennis(Latreille).Plant deterrent agents act as repellents or antifeedants to prevent wood decay and increase its useful *** potential of the tree Caesalpinia coriaria(Fabaceae)as a biological source of molecules with deterrent effects against the dry wood termite was assessed by a phytochemical fractionation guided by repellence and antifeedant *** gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of the leaf essential oil showed geraniol to be one of the major components and its repellent and antifeedant effects were *** had only an antifeedant effect without affecting the body weight or survival of the dry wood *** the leaf essential oil,geraniol did not exhibit a repellency *** in-silico approach of the activity of acetylcholinesterase in interaction with geraniol resulted in an affinity energy of−7.5 Kcal/*** interacted with the amino acid tyrosine 324 located in the enzyme’s active site while citronellol(negative control)interacted with tryptophan 83 located adjacent to the active *** deterring terpenes have not been implemented for the preservation and restoration of wood products exposed to the attack of the dry wood ***,they are an important natural control alternative.

Aim:It remains unclear what the best therapeutic option for recurrent glioma patients after Stupp treatment ***(BVZ)is commonly administered in progression,but it appears that only some patients *** would be useful to find biomarkers that determine beforehand who these patients ***:The protocol included 31 high-risk progressing glioma patients after Stupp treatment who received BVZ 5-10 mg/kg every 14 days and temozolomide(3-19 cycles,150-200 mg five days each 28-day cycle)during a mean of eight cycles of BVZ or until tumor progression or unacceptable *** analyzed the clinical outcome values of inflammatory indices measured before BVZ ***:Lymphocyte level before BVZ administration was the best independent predictor of overall survival(HR=0.34;95%CI:0.145-0.81;P=0.015).The area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was 0.823,with 1.645 being the optimal cut-off value,and 0.80 and 0.85 the sensitivity and specificity values,*** and non-responder survival curves were also significantly different,considering the first and second tertiles as cut-off *** number of BVZ cycles was not related to *** neutrophil platelet levels,platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR),and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(nLR)did not have independent predictive *** variables were not correlated with each ***,patients with high nLR and PLR simultaneously(double positive PLR-nLR)showed a worse clinical outcome than the rest(P=0.043).Conclusion:Pretreatment lymphocyte levels and double positive PLR-nLR could be used as non-invasive hematological prognostic markers for recurrent gliomas treated with bevacizumab.A close relationship emerged between inflammation and angiogenesis.

Thermal analysis of olive tree pruning and the by-products obtained by its gasification and pyrolysis: The effect of some heavy metals on their devolatilization behavior

In this work, the effect of the presence of nickel and lead in thermal decomposition of olive tree pruning (OTP), OTP-char and OTP-ashes was studied by thermogravimetry. Experiments were conducted in two kinds of atmosphere (nitrogen atmosphere and oxidizing atmosphere with 20% of O2) at a heating rate of 10 ℃/min. This investigation describes the chemical, physical and fuel properties of the OTP, which shows a similar composition to other lignocellulosic materials such as hazelnut husk and wood sawdust. In addition, SEM analysis indicated that OTP-char surface is higher than OTP surface with plenty of holes and channels. It makes the char an ideal support for metal retention specially for Pb metal (OTP retained 8.55 mg/g whereas OTP char retained 11.57 mg/g). On the other hand, metal retention occurred by adsorption or ion exchange, according to the IR spectrum of the samples. The results of thermogravimetric tests proved that the presence of lead did not have a strong effect on the decomposition of the samples, since TG and DTG curves were very similar. However, nickel increased the mass loss rate, accelerating the decomposition process, showing higher peaks in DTG curves. Additionally, for temperatures higher than 360 ℃, the volatilization of the samples was improved in the nickel-polluted sample, achieving a higher mass loss, getting more energy from the biomass and reducing the quantity of residues left after the process.

Wood is an organic material that is a source of carbon of organisms called Wood-decay fungi,and to preserve the wood,various toxic compounds to man and the environment have been *** analyze the effect of n,nDimethylhexadecylamine(DMHDA)on wood attacked by the rotting fungus Trametes versicolor *** used an in vitro system to expose the fungus *** to different concentrations of the DMHDA(50,150 and 450µM).We quantified the diameter of mycelial growth and laccase activity,also,under these experimental conditions we studied morphological details of the organisms using different scanning equipment including scanning electron *** growth of *** exposed to DMHDA for 60 days,showed a concentration-dependent dose behavior,also,the electron microscopy analysis revealed that the morphology and mycelial density was affected by the DMHDA,showing a formation of atypical morphological and thickener ***,the pieces of wood treated with DMHDA and exposed to the fungus had a lower mass loss,after a period of 60 days of exposure,the values obtained were 0.7,1.0 and 0.5 g of mass lost for the control,LoC and LoDMHDA treatments ***-rot fungi have represented economic losses worldwide,the strategies used have been supported by toxic compounds for the *** DMHDA both in the Petri dish system and as a wood preservative was shown to significantly inhibit the growth of ***.

Antifungal Activity of Crude Extracts of Tectona grandis L.f. against Wood DecayFungi

Wood is mainly made up of cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin polymers and other organic and inorganic substances, making it susceptible to deteriorate by various biological agents. Tectona grandis L.f. (Teak) is a timberspecies with high resistance to biological deterioration, valued for its durability, beauty, and mechanical *** purpose of this work was to evaluate the antifungal activity of crude extracts from teak on various fungi thatcause wood deterioration. For this, Teak heartwood was obtained, then fragmented and pulverized until obtaininga flour which was used for compounds extraction using the Soxhlet technique coupled to a rotary evaporatorthrough solvents of increasing polarity (hexane, dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran, and acetone). The extractsobtained were tested against fungal organisms collected in the field, and the LC50 was determined using teak crudeextracts on Artemia salina as a biological model. The results obtained showed that a high flour yield was obtainedwith hexane (0.951 g), followed by tetrahydrofuran (0.446 g), dichloromethane (0.348 g), and acetone (0.152 g). Byusing nine fungal organisms that predominantly correspond to the genus Aspergillus, the extractable compoundswere tested, inhibiting 25% of mycelial growth with tetrahydrofuran (T. versicolor), and 40.9% with dichloromethane(G. trabeum). Likewise, the biological model of A. salina showed an LC50 of 84.9 μg/mL with hexane, 43.3 μg/mLwith dichloromethane, 59.6 μg/mL with tetrahydrofuran, and 54.7 μg/mL with acetone. For this reason, it is concluded that Teak wood contains many extractable compounds in relation to its weight, besides having antimicrobialactivity when extracted through polar compounds such as dichloromethane and tetrahydrofuran.

Recently,there has been an upsurge of activity in image-based non-photorealistic rendering(nPR),and in particular portrait image stylisation,due to the advent of neural style transfer(nST).However,the state of performance evaluation in this field is poor,especially compared to the norms in the computer vision and machine learning ***,the task of evaluating image stylisation is thus far not well defined,since it involves subjective,perceptual,and aesthetic *** make progress towards a solution,this paper proposes a new structured,threelevel,benchmark dataset for the evaluation of stylised portrait *** criteria were used for its construction,and its consistency was validated by user ***,a new methodology has been developed for evaluating portrait stylisation algorithms,which makes use of the different benchmark levels as well as annotations provided by user studies regarding the characteristics of the *** perform evaluation for a wide variety of image stylisation methods(both portrait-specific and general purpose,and also both traditional nPR approaches and nST)using the new benchmark dataset.
