Rare-earth silicates are promising environmental barrier coatings(EBCs)that can protect SiC_(f)/Si C_(m)substrates in next-genera tion gas turbine ***,RE_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)(RE=Yb and Ho)shows potential as an EBC due to its coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE)compatible with substrates and high resistance to water vapor *** target operating temperature for next-generation tur bine blades is 1400°*** is inevitable during adhesion to molten volcanic ash,and thus,understanding the corrosion behavior o the material is crucial to its *** study investigates the high-temperature corrosion behavior of sintered RE_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)(RE=Yb and Ho).Samples were prepared using a solid-state reaction and hot-press *** were then exposed to volcanic ash at 1400°C for 224,and 48 *** 48 h of exposure,volcanic ash did not react with Yb_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)but penetrated its interior,causing *** Ho_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)was partially dissolved in the molten volcanic ash,forming a reaction zone that prevented volcanic ash melts from penetrating the *** increasing heat treatment time,the reaction zone expanded,and the thickness of the acicular apatite grains increased The Ca:Si ratios in the residual volcanic ash were mostly unchanged for Yb_(2)Si_(2)O_(7)but decreased considerably over time for Ho_(2)Si_(2)O_(7).Th Ca in volcanic ash was consumed and formed apatite,indicating that RE^(3+)ions with large ionic radii(Ho>Yb)easily precipitated apatit from the volcanic ash.

A stable CS-FEM for the static and seismic stability of a single square tunnel in the soil where the shear strength increases linearly with depth

A numerical procedure using a stable cell-based smoothed finite element method(CS-FEM)is presented for estimation of stability of a square tunnel in the soil where the shear strength increases linearly with *** kinematically admissible displacement fields are approximated by uniform quadrilateral elements in conjunction with the strain smoothing technique,eliminating volumetric locking issues and the singularity associated with the MohreCoulomb ***,a rich set of simulations was performed to compute the static stability of a square tunnel with different geometries and soil *** presented results are in excellent agreement with the upper and lower bound solutions using the standard finite element method(FEM).The stability charts and tables are given for practical use in the tunnel design,along with a newly proposed formulation for predicting the undrained stability of a single square ***,the seismic stability number was computed using the present numerical *** results reveal that the seismic stability number reduces with an increasing value of the horizontal seismic acceleration(a_(h)),for both cases of the weightless soil and the soil with unit ***,the link between the static and seismic stability numbers is described using corrective factors that represent reductions in the tunnel stability due to seismic *** is shown from the numerical results that the corrective factor becomes larger as the unit weight of soil mass increases;however,the degree of the reduction in seismic stability number tends to reduce for the case of the homogeneous ***,this advanced numerical procedure is straightforward to extend to three-dimensional(3D)limit analysis and is readily applicable for the calculation of the stability of tunnels in highly anisotropic and heterogeneous soils which are often encountered in practice.

The effects of low energy X-ray irradiation on microbial inactivation,sprouting inhibition and genetic variation were *** was an inverse correlation between the exposure dose in range of 0 Gy–5000 Gy and the survival rate of *** dose of 1000 Gy seemed to be suitable for inactivation of microorganisms because the respective survival rate is relatively low (0.59%).Dose rate of 13.87 Gy/min was the most appropriate to inactivate the microorganisms,with the survival rate of 0.37%.Applying the irradiation dose of 1000 Gy and dose rate of 13.87 Gy/min,there was a significant sprouting inhibition of irradiated potatoes compared to the control for six months *** effect of irradiation dose (100–1200 Gy) and dose rate (8.63–19.62 Gy/min) on genetic variation of the irradiated samples was assessed by DNA fingerprints induced from using three molecular techniques including Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD),Start Codon Targeted Polymorphism (SCoT) and CAAT box – derived polymorphism (CBDP).At the irradiation dose of 1000 Gy and dose rate of 13.87 Gy/min,the level of genetic variation was relatively low (4.85%).Thus,this treatment is a suitable condition of irradiation for potato treatment with the purpose of preservation.

The International Maritime Organization has been promoting energy-efficient operational measures to reduce ships'bunker fuel consumption and the accompanying emissions,including speed optimization,trim optimization,weather routing,and the virtual arrival *** theoretical foundation of these measures is a model that can accurately forecast a ship's bunker fuel consumption rate according to its sailing speed,displacement/draft,trim,weather conditions,and sea *** report is an important data source for ship fuel efficiency modeling but its information quality on weather and sea conditions is limited by a snapshotting practice with eye *** overcome this issue,this study develops a solution to fuse voyage report data and publicly accessible meteorological data and constructs nine datasets based on this data fusion *** widelyadopted machine learning models were tested over these datasets for eight 8100-TEU to 14,000-TEU containerships from a global shipping *** best datasets found reveal the benefits of fusing voyage report data and meteorological data,as well as the practically acceptable quality of voyage report *** randomized trees(ET),AdaBoost(AB),Gradient Tree Boosting(GB)and XGBoost(XG)present the best fit and generalization *** R^(2) values over the best datasets are all above 0.96 and even reach 0.99 to 1.00 for the training set,and 0.74 to 0.90 for the test *** fit errors on daily bunker fuel consumption are usually between 0.5 and 4.0 ton/*** models have good interpretability in explaining the relative importance of different determinants to a ship's fuel consumption rate.

We present theoretically the formation of exciton–photon polaritons and exciton-surface plasmon polaritons in a perovskite-based subwavelength lattice on the metallic *** is shown that the later polaritons will be achieved as the perovskite layer is ultra-thin(<50 nm),while the co-existence of both polaritons will dominate,as the thickness of the perovskite metasurface approaches *** the two cases,the lower polaritonic branches consist of dark and bright modes corresponding to infinite and finite radiative quality factors,*** salient property in this work is that it allows one to obtain exceptional points(EPs)in momentum space with a four-fold enhancement of local density of states through engineering the perovskite *** findings show that the perovskite metasurface is an attractive and rich platform to make polaritonic devices,even with the presence of a lossy metallic layer.

A new formula for screening metabolic syndrome in Asians:skin fold thickness at A8 point on Erdheim diagram and waist circumference

Background and objectives Recent studies have shown that abdominal obesity is an important component for the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome (MS) and MS is a high risk factor for cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study was to develop a new formula for screening and diagnosis of MS using the waist circumference (WC) and skin fold thickness at the point A8 (SFA8) on the Erdheim diagram. Methods A total of 358 essential hypertensive patients (189 male and 169 female) with a mean age of 59.0±9.7 years were included; 151 healthy people (79 male, 72 female) with a mean age of 57.3±12.1 years (similar to hypertensive patients) who were non-hypertensive and non-diabetic served as a control group. All subjects had no evidence of hepatic, renal, or endocrine disease as determined by history, physical examination and screening blood tests. Height, weight, WC, SFA8, blood pressure (BP), fasting plasma glucose, HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride levels were measured in all subjects. Abdominal obesity measured by WC using the Asia-Pacific criteria (IDFA) was applied for meeting the MS definition. The normal value of SFA8 was measured in the non- MS group. Relationships between SFA8 and systolic BP, diastolic BP, fasting plasma glucose, HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride levels were calculated in the control group. A new formula was developed according to high SFA8 and high WC. Results The normal value of SFA8 in non-MS group was 23.6±7.2 mm in male and 26.5±4.6 mm in female, respectively. The value of SFA8 in MS group was 36.7± 7.4 mm in male and 38.9 ± 8.1 mm in female, respectively. The value of WC in MS group and non-MS group were 92.5±3.0 cm and 79.4±6. 1 cm in male and 86.3±6.4 cm and 74.7±5.4 cm in female, respectively. There was a correlation between SFA8 and systolic BP, diastolic BP, fasting plasma glucose, HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride in control group (the correlation coefficients were 0.29, 0.23, 0.25, -0.31 and 0.46, respectively, P < 0.01)

This work uses refined first-order shear theory to analyze the free vibration and transient responses of double-curved sandwich two-layer shells made of auxetic honeycomb core and laminated three-phase polymer/GNP/fiber surface subjected to the blast *** of the two layers that make up the double-curved shell structure is made up of an auxetic honeycomb core and two laminated sheets of three-phase polymer/GNP/*** exterior is supported by a Kerr elastic foundation with three *** key innovation of the proposed theory is that the transverse shear stresses are zero at two free surfaces of each *** contrast to previous first-order shear deformation theories,no shear correction factor is ***'s exact solution was used to treat the double-curved shell problem with a single title boundary,while the finite element technique and an eight-node quadrilateral were used to address the other boundary *** ensure the accuracy of these results,a thorough comparison technique is employed in conjunction with credible *** problem model's edge cases allow for this kind of *** study's findings may be used in the post-construction evaluation of military and civil works structures for their ability to sustain explosive *** addition,this is also an important basis for the calculation and design of shell structures made of smart materials when subjected to shock waves or explosive loads.

Skin fold thickness at abdomen:a simple anthropometric measurement may compliment metabolic syndrome definition in patients with normal waist circumference

Backgroud and Objectives Previous studies have reported that skin fold thickness (SF) strongly correlated with insulin resistance in the metabolic syndrome (MetS). In this study, we developed a MetS definition by SF at A8 point (SFA8) on Erdheim diagram(MetSSFA8) in essential hypertensive patients. Subjects and Methods Medical records of 268 essential hypertensive patients (126males and 122 females) were analyzed, including 210 non-diabetic patients (NDM group) and 58 patients with diabetes (DM group).The mean age was 61.4 ± 9.9 and 59.0 ± 11.0 years, respectively. The control group consisted of 90 non-diabetic, non-hypertensive patients with a mean age of 58.0 ± 11.3 years. The proposed MetSSFA8 definition included SFA8 specific values ( ≥30 mm in female and ≥27 mm in male) and at least two of the following: raised triglyceride levels ( ≥1.7 mmol/L), or specific treatment for this lipid abnormality; raised blood pressure (SBP≥130 mmHg and/or DBP≥85 mmHg), or treatment of previously diagnosed hypertension;reduced HDL-cholesterol (＜ 1.03 mmol/L in men, ＜1.29 mmol/L in women), or specific treatment for this lipid abnormality; raised fasting plasma glucose (≥5.6 mmol/l), or previously diagnosed DM. Metabolic Syndrome by the National Cholesterol Education Program and International Diabetes Federation definitions were determined with abdominal obesity defined by Asia-Pacific criteria for waist circumference (NCEPA and IDFA). Results The percentage of MetS as defined by NCEPA, IDFA and MetSSFA8 in NDM group was lower than that of NCEPA, IDFA and MetSSFA8 in DM group [OR=7.7 (95%CI, 2.9-20.2) and 2.5 (95%CI, 1.4-4.8) and 2.7(95%CI, 1.3-5.6), respectively] and higher than that of the control group [OR=53.3 (95%CI, 16.7-170.6), 5.8 (95%CI, 2.6-13.2) and18.8 (95%CI, 7.3-48.7), respectively]. The percentage of MetS by NCEPA, IDFA and MetSSFA8 in males in NDM group was lower than the percentage of MetS by NCEPA, IDFA and MetSSFA8 in females in NDM group (50.8% and 77.9%, P＜ 0.0
