Efficacy of voriconazole on leishmaniasis by Leishmania major: An in vitro and in vivo study

Objective: To appraise the activity of voriconazole against Leishmania major(L. major) in vitro and its effectiveness on wound regeneration in cutaneous leishmaniasis in BALB/c mice Methods: The IC_(50) of voriconazole against promastigotes and intra-macrophage amastigotes of L. major was investigated in vitro. The in vivo study was performed by treating the L. major infected BALB/c mice. When the wounds appeared in the base of tail, treatment was started by administration of 30 mg/kg voriconazole for 28 consecutive days orally. Results: The IC_(50) of voriconazole against promastigotes and intra-macrophage amastigotes were 0.74 and 0.89μM, respectively. Voriconazole decreased lipid peroxidation and IL-6 level. Histopathologica findings indicated accelerated healing in the voriconazole treated group compared to other groups. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that voriconazole can be an option in treating the cutaneous leishmaniasis by L. major.

Dear Editor,Hepatitis B virus(HBV)is a hepatotropic virus that can establish a persistent and chronic infection in *** hepatitis B(CHB)infection is associated with an increased risk of hepatic decompensation,cirrhosis,and hepatocellular carcinoma.1 Emerging studies show that lactate,an end product of anaerobic glycolysis,has an important role in metabolism beyond energy production and is also a regulator of the tumor microenvironment(TME)and immune cell function.2 It is noteworthy that lactate levels have been associated with mortality in patients,and large HBV surface proteins(LHBs)have been shown to reduce Pyruvate kinase M2(PKM2)activity and thereby increase overall glucose consumption and lactate production in hepatocytes.

Background:As the effectiveness of breast cancer treatment has improved,a growing number of long-term breast cancer survivors are seeking help for unique health *** patients may be at increased risk of cardiovascular disease due to the side effects of *** positive impact of most types of exercise has been repeatedly reported in people with cancer,but the most effective exercise approaches for maximum beneficial adaptations remain ***,this study aimed to compare the effects of high-intensity interval training(HIIT)and moderate-intensity continuous training(MICT) on inflammatory indices,adipokines,metabolic markers,body composition,cardiorespiratory fitness,and quality of life in breast cancer patients during adjuvant endocrine ***:Thirty non-metastatic breast cancer patients during adjuvant endocrine therapy who had been treated with chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy were recruited from Iran and randomized to HIIT,MICT,or control groups for a supervised exercise intervention that took place 3 times a week for 12 *** training intensity was determed based on the peak oxygen uptake(VO2peak),and the volume of training was matched in HIIT and MICT based on the *** composition,functional capacity,cardiorespiratory fitness,metabolic indices,sex hormones,adipokines,and inflammatory markers were assessed before and after the ***:The VO2peakincreased by 16.8% in the HIIT group in comparison to baseline values(mean difference=3.61 mL/kg/min).HIIT significantly improved the VO2peakcompared to control(mean difference=3.609 mL/kg/min) and MICT(mean differences=2.974 mL/kg/min)*** HIIT(mean difference=9.172 mg/dL) and MICT(mean difference=7.879 mg/dL) interventions significantly increased highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol levels compared to the control *** analysis of covariance showed that physical well-being significantly improved in MICT compared to control group(mean difference=3.268)

An electrical cancer biosensor was developed using amine-functionalized vertically aligned carbon nanotubes （VACNTs） conjugated to folic acid （FA） molecules. Specific binding of FA to folate receptor （FR） existing on the membrane of cancer cells assisted their entrapment on VACNTs. For the conjugation of FA to CNTs, amine （--NH2） functional groups were attached to the side walls of the nanotubes by plasma treatment. The amount and shape of entrapped cancer cells on FA-VACNTs were noticeably higher and more uniform than the cells entrapped on bare VACNTs. The comparative signal spike of the FA-VACNTs and VACNTs covered impedance sensor in interaction with the same concentration of lung cancer cells （QUDB） showed sharper response for the functionalized sensor. Moreover, electron microscopy and florescent images as well as impedance diagrams verified the spherical and non-deformed shape of the cells entrapped by FA-VACNT, This sensor would be useful in assaying the cells vitality in time evolution. This device could be applied in diagnostic and time monitoring applications in the field of cancer such as extreme drug resistance assay （EDR）.

Here,we study the temperature structure of flaring and non-flaring coronal loops,using extracted loops from images taken in six extreme ultraviolet channels recorded by Atmospheric Imaging Assembly/Solar Dynamics *** use data for loops of an X2.1-class-flaring active region(AR 11283)during 22:10 UT until 23:00 UT,on 2011 September 6;and a non-flaring active region(AR 12194)during 08:00:00 UT until 09:00:00 UT on2014 October *** using the spatially synthesized Gaussian differential emission measure(DEM)forward-fitting method,we calculate the peak temperatures for each strip of the *** apply the Lomb–Scargle method to compute the oscillation periods for the temperature series of each *** periods of the temperature oscillations for the flaring loops ranged from 7 to 28.4 *** temperature oscillations show very close behavior to the slow-mode *** observe that the temperature oscillations in the flaring loops started at least around10 minutes before the transverse oscillations and continue for a long time duration even after the transverse oscillations *** temperature amplitudes increased during the flaring time(20 minutes)in the flaring *** periods of the temperatures obtained for the non-flaring loops ranged from 8.5 to 30 minutes,but their significances are less(below 0.5)in comparison with the flaring ones(near to one).Hence the detected temperature periods for the non-flaring loops’strips are less probable in comparison with the flaring ones,and maybe they are just *** on our confined observations,it seems that the flaring loops’periods show more diversity and their temperatures have wider ranges of variation than the non-flaring *** accurate commentary in this respect requires more extensive statistical research and broader observations.

A carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with carbon nanotubes and 5‐amino‐3',4'‐dimethyl‐ bi‐ phenyl‐2‐ol (5ADB) is prepared. Under the optimum pH of 7.0, the oxidation of ascorbic acid (AA) on the modified CPE occurs at a potential about 280 mV less positive than that on the unmodified CPE. Some kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for electrocatalytic oxidation of AA, including electron transfer coefficient (α = 0.58) and diffusion coefficient (D = 2.2 × 10-6 cm2/s), are also determined. AA, acetaminophen (AC), and tryptophan (TRP) were detected simultaneously using the modified CPE. The peak potentials recorded using the modified CPE in phosphate‐buffered solution at pH 7.0 were 265, 465, and 780 mV for AA, AC, and TRP, respectively. The modified CPE was successfully used to determine the concentrations of AA, AC, and TRP in real samples.

Mapping desertification potential using life cycle assessment method: a case study in Lorestan Province, Iran

In recent year,desertification has become one of the most important environmental hazards all over the world,especially in developing countries such as *** the factors impacting on desertification and identifying the regions with high desertification potential are essential to control this phenomenon(i.e.,desertification).The life cycle assessment(LCA)method is essential in assessing the desertification of ecosystems,especially for susceptible ecosystems with high degradation *** aim of the present study was to evaluate the desertification potential of Lorestan Province,Iran,based on the LCA *** selected aridity,fire and dust as three indicators of desertification and collected data from 2000 to *** divided the study area into 6 types of ecoregions according to the climate types(arid,semi-arid and dry sub-humid)and dominant species(Quercus brantii and Astragalus adscendens),and calculated the characteristic factor(CF)of each indicator(aridity,fire and dust)by combining the indicator layers and ecoregion layer of the study *** a given ecoregion,the sum of CF values of aridity,dust and fire indicators represents the life cycle inventory(LCI)desertification value(the higher the LCI value,the greater the desertification potential).Then,we obtained the desertification potential map by combining and overlapping the ecoregions and the normalized indicators based on the LCA *** and fire exhibit significant impacts on desertification in the study area compared with *** the study area,semi-arid ecoregion with Quercus brantii as the dominant species is the largest ecoregion,while arid ecoregion with Quercus brantii as the dominant species is the smallest *** ecoregion with Astragalus adscendens as the dominant species(LCI desertification value of 1.99)and dry sub-humid ecoregion with Quercus brantii as the dominant species(LCI desertification value of 0.79)show the highest and lowest desertification potentials,respec

Castanea sativa is a valuable tree species in Hyrcanian forests, an evolutionary relict ecosystem whose communities suffer from overexploitation and fungal diseases. In the current study, three species delimitation methods were utilized with ITS regions sequencing to determine the taxonomic status of Septoria causing leaf blotch of C. sativa in Hyrcanian forests. The results indicated that the length of ITS region in the genus Septoria (extracted from GenBank) varied from 650 to 680 bp. There were almost three times more variable sites in ITS1 than in ITS2. The ITS2 secondary structure of Hyrcanian Septoria community had the highest similarity with Septoria castaneicola, except for some differences in helix II and III. Also, Hyrcanian samples had minimum genetic distances with S. castaneicola and maximum with Septoria quercicola. The maximum parsimony method divided the studied Septoria genus into three distinct clades, mostly located in clade I. Clade II consisted entirely of Septoria aciculosa, while clade III contained S. castaneicola as well as Hyrcanian samples.

Sensing behavior of BN nanosheet toward nitrous oxide: A DFT study

In order to develop a sensor for the detection of toxic N2O molecules, the interaction of pristine and Aldoped BN nanosheets with an N2O molecule was investigated using density functional theory calculations. It was found that unlike the pristine sheet, the Al-doped sheet can effectively interact with the N2O molecule so that its electronic properties and conductivity are dramatically changed. We believe that replacing a B atom of the BN sheet with an Al atom may be a good strategy for improving the sensitivity of these nanosheets toward N2O, which cannot be trapped and detected by the pristine sheet.
