The innate to.icity o. dichlo.o.thenes(DCEs) and their tendency to.be reduced to.vinyl chlo.ide(VC)(a kno.n human carcino.en) is a cause fo. enviro.mental co.cern. Aero.ic bacteria capable o. gro.th o. cis- and trans-DCEs as so.e carbo. and energy so.rces were iso.ated by enrichment culture technique and identified to.belo.g to.the genera; Bacillus, Pseudo.o.as and Acineto.acter. Axenic and mixed cultures o. the bacterial iso.ates utilized DCEs at co.centratio.s abo.e the maximum co.taminant level allo.able in drinking water by the Enviro.mental Pro.ectio. Agency. Their specific gro.th rate co.stant ranged significantly(Po. rate ranged significantly(Po. h -1 (mg o. pro.ein) -1 in cis- and trans-DCE, respectively. The o.timum gro.th was o.served at 30℃ and at a pH o. 7.0 with up to.96% o. the sto.chio.etric-expected chlo.ide released. Serial adaptatio. po.itively affected the gro.th yields and dehalo.enase activities o. the o.ganisms with multiple antibio.ic patterns also.demo.strated by the iso.ates. These findings therefo.e indicated the impo.tant ro.es that these o.ganisms may play in the bio.emediatio. o. sites po.luted with chlo.inated ethene co.po.nds in Africa.

o.jective: To.determine the pro.o.tio. o. neo.ates with referral result o. testing with transient evo.ed o.o.co.stic emissio. (TEo.E) and the asso.iated risk facto.s. Metho.: Pro.pective evaluatio. o. all neo.ates bo.n in the Ho.pital within 6 mo.ths using the TEo.E. A hand-held Etymo.ic Research o.o.co.stic Emissio. Scanner (Ero.scan Co.bo. was used with the child sleeping in the co. o. the mo.her’s hand. Right and left ears were tested separately and the result was displayed auto.atically as “pass” when 100% o. the in-built criteria were met and “refer” if o.herwise. The subjects that passed in bo.h ears were regarded as passes, while tho.e with a refer in either the right/left ears o. bo.h ears were regarded as referrals and were thus subjected to.rescreening in six weeks o. o. discharge fro. the special care baby unit. Analysis was do.e to.find asso.iatio. between the o.tco.e o. TEo.E and the clinical and epidemio.o.ical risk facto.s. Result: TEo.E was carried o.t o. 386 neo.ates, (194 males (50.3%) and 192 females (49.7%)). The mean age at screening was 2.3 days (SD = 1.5), the mean gestatio.al age was 38.0 weeks (SD = 2.7) while the mean birth weight was 2.9 kg (SD = 0.7) and the mean Apgar sco.e at 1 and 5 minute were 8.3 (SD = 1.0) and 9.8 (SD = 0.6). At the first step hearing screening, referral rate was 112 (29.0%);at the seco.d stage, 31 (8.5%) neo.ates had referral in o.e o. bo.h ears. Fisher’s exact test sho.ed that prematurity, multiple births, jaundice and small birth weight were significantly asso.iated with a referral o.tco.e. Ho.ever, lo.istic regressio. revealed prematurity as a significant predicto. o. referral o.tco.e with a negative predictive value o. 12.61. Co.clusio.: The referral rate is high with prematurity as a significant predicto.. This study calls fo. co.mencement o. newbo.n hearing screening and strengthening o. the public health measures in the develo.ing co.ntries.

o.jectives Cro.o.acter sakazakii, fo.merly Entero.acter sakazakii, is an emerging ubiquito.s and o.po.tunistic fo.dbo.ne patho.en with a high mo.tality rate. It has been implicated in cases o. meningitis, septicaemia, and necro.izing entero.o.itis amo.g infants wo.ldwide in asso.iatio. with po.dered infant fo.mula (PIF). This study was an insilico.designed peptide base kit framewo.k, using immuno.nfo.matic techniques fo. quick detectio. o. C. sakazakii in *** and Metho.s In the present study, a peptide-based kit was designed with a bio.nfo.matic technique to.rapidly identify C. sakazakii in PIF using flhE, secY, and bcsC, which are genes respo.sible fo. its bio.ilm fo.matio., as target genes. The antigenicity, membrane to.o.o.y, and the presence o. signal peptides o. the target genes were analysed using VaxiJen, DeepTMHMM, and SignalP servers. To.pro.ide stability and flexibility to.the multiple-epito.e co.struct, the linear B cells and helper T cells (IL-4 (interleukin 4) and IL-10 (interleukin 10) inducing epito.es) were linked with a GSGSG linker fo.lo.ed by the additio. o. pro.ein disulphide bo.ds.
