Background With some 134,073,166 people living in endemic communities at risk of infection[1],Nigeria is the most endemic country in Africa and requires preventive chemotherapy(PC)for a total of 26.3 million persons[2].The National Schistosomiasis Elimination Programme(NSCHEP),with the support of international partners,has been implementing PC in Nigeria since 2009 and most recently will need to revise its current strategy(Additional file 1).For example,the new World Health Organization(WHO)guideline has six key recommendations that will dramatically change the implementation of schistosomiasis elimination in endemic countries[3].However,its impact and programmatic implications will vary from country to country,hence the need for a country-specific analysis.

Knowledge propagation is a necessity,both in academics and in the *** focus of this work is on how to achieve rapid knowledge propaga-tion using collaborative study *** practice of knowledge sharing in study groupsﬁnds relevance in conferences,workshops,and class ***-nately,there appears to be only few researches on empirical best practices and techniques on study groups formation,especially for achieving rapid knowledge *** work bridges this gap by presenting a workﬂow driven compu-tational algorithm for autonomous and unbiased formation of study *** system workﬂow consists of a chronology of stages,each made of distinct *** of the most important steps,subsumed within the algorithmic stage,are the algorithms that resolve the decisional problem of number of study groups to be formed,as well as the most effective permutation of the study group participants to form collaborative *** work contributes a number of new algorithmic concepts,such as autonomous and unbiased matching,exhaustive multiplication technique,twisted round-robin transversal,equilibrium summation,among *** concept of autonomous and unbiased matching is centered on the constitution of study groups and pairs purely based on the participants’performances in an examination,rather than through any external *** part of practical demon-stration of this work,study group formation as well as unbiased pairing were fully demonstrated for a collaborative learning size of forty(40)participants,and partially for study groups of 50,60 and 80 *** quantitative proof of this work was done through the technique called equilibrium summation,as well as the calculation of inter-study group Pearson Correlation Coefﬁcients,which resulted in values higher than 0.9 in all *** life experimentation was carried out while teaching Object-Oriented Programming to forty(40)under-graduates between February and May *** result showed

Influence of La3+ ion in the yttria matrix in improving the microhardness of infrared transparent nano LaxY2-xO3 sintered via hybrid heating

In the present work, hybrid sintering technique which couples the resistive heating and microwave heating is employed to sinter infrared transparent La0.15Y1.85O3 to 99.2% of the theoretical density for the first time to the best of our knowledge. The presence of La3+ in the yttria matrix improves the hardness properties to a greater extent without affecting the transmittance properties, but there is a deterioration in the thermal properties of the sample. So we have limited our studies to La0.15Y1.85O3 which shows better optical, thermal, and hardness properties. The pellets fabricated from the ultra-fine nano powder with average particle size of ~12 nm synthesized by combustion technique and sintered at 1430 °C with an average grain size of 0.22 μm show ~80.1% transmittance in the UV–visible region and 81% in mid infrared region. For a comparative study of the optical, mechanical, and thermal properties, two other variants of sintering strategies namely conventional sintering and microwave sintering are also employed. A comprehensive analysis on the hardness reveals that the hardness of the pellets sintered via hybrid heating is 9.73 GPa and is superior to the pellets sintered using the other two techniques. The thermal conductivity of the sample is also analyzed in detail. The results clearly indicate that the La0.15Y1.85O3 ultra-fine nano powder synthesised by the single-step combustion method and sintered via microwave hybrid heating shows better transmittance properties without compromising the mechanical properties, and can be used very effectively for the fabrication of infrared transparent windows and domes.

Aqueous Extract of Erythrina senegalensis Exhibits Dose-Dependent Hepatoprotective Activity on Paracetamol-Induced Liver Damage in Wistar Rats

Erythrina senegalensis is utilized in the treatment of liver diseases in folklore medicine in most of northern Nigeria, but sufficient pharmacological-based and peer-reviewed scientific literature is not available to authenticate its use in the treatment of liver ailments. This research is aimed at assessing the hepatoprotective effects of Erythrina senegalensis against paracetamol-induced (PCM-induced) hepatotoxicity in wistar albino rats. This was evaluated by estimating the activities of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) as compared with the control group. The extract was concentrated and then desired concentrations of extracts were made by dissolving in normal saline. Four different doses of aqueous extracts Erythrina senegalensis (200, 300, 400 and 500 mg/kg) were administered orally for 6 consecutive days after the 72 hrs administration of paracetamol (1500 mg/kg) per body weight. Paracetamol significantly induced oxidative stress in the liver, ultimately leading to increased serum levels of liver enzyme markers like alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase. Administration of the extracts showed significant (p 0.05) and dose-dependent hepatoprotective activity resulting in decrease in the activity of ALT, AST and ALP. These data revealed that Erythrina senegalensis aqueous extracts possess significant hepatoprotective activity against PCM-induced toxicity attributable to its constituent phytochemicals. The mechanism of hepatoprotection seems to be through the modulation of antioxidant enzyme systems.
