Anti-bacterial studies on Hemigraphis colorata(Blume) *** and Elephantopus scaber L.

Objective:To examine the ethanol,aqueous,chloroform,benzene,acetone and petroleum ether extracts of Hemigraphis colorata(***) leaves and stem and Elephantopus scaber (***) leaves,root and flower for the presence of phyto-constituents and screened the antibacterial activity against the selected ***:The fresh materials were shade dried and powdered using the tissue *** dried and powered materials(50 g) were extracted successively with 200 mL of aqueous,acetone,benzene,chloroform,*** petroleum ether by using Soxhlet extractor for 8 h at a temperature not exceeding the boiling point of the ***,acetone,benzene,chloroform,*** petroleum ether extracts were prepared from powdered materials were used for preliminary phytnehemical and antimicrobial studies using standard ***:The crude aqueous,acetone,benzene,chloroform, *** petroleum ether extracts *** leaves,flower and root and *** leaves and stem demonstrated that out of(5×6×12 = 360) tests for the presence or absence of the above compounds.188 tests gave positive results and the remaining 172 gave negative results. The results of the phvtochemical screening revealed that phenol(12/12).carbohydrates(9/12). steroids(8/12).saponins and coumarins(7/12).tannins(6/12),proteins(5/12).earboxylic acid and flavonoids(4/12).xanthoproteins(3/12) and alkaloids(2/12) presence in the crude aqueous, acetone,benzene,chloroform,*** petroleum ether extracts of *** leaves and *** crude aqueous,acetone,benzene,chloroform,*** petroleum ether extracts *** leaves,flower and root displayed the presence of phenol(18/18).tannin(17/18). carbohydrates(16/18).steroids(14/18),oarboxylic acid and coumarins(12/18).saponins(10/18), xanthoprotein(9/18).flavonoids(7/18).protein(4/18) and alkaloids(2/18).The root ethanolic extracts of *** illustrated the highest zone of inhibition against three pathogens viz.. Objective:To screen the antimicrobial potential of three ethnomedicinal plants Chassalia curviflora Thw.(***),Cyclea peltata Hook.F.& Thomson(***) and Euphorbia hirta L(***) used in folk medicines in Aarukani hills Kani tribe,Tamil Nadu,India against human bacterial ***:Antibacterial efficacy was performed by disc diffusion method against the pathogens viz.,Escherichia coli(***)(ATCC 35218),Staphylococcus aureus (***)(ATCC 6538),Salmonella typhi(***)(MTCC 733),Proteus vulgaris(***), Proteus mirabilis(***) and Streptococcus pyogenes(***) and incubated for 24 h at 37°***:The maximum degree of antibacterial activity was observed in *** followed by *** *** showed comparatively low degree of antibacterial *** methanolic extract of *** showed the antibacterial activity against three pathogens viz.,***,*** and *** with the inhibition zones 12 mm,10 mm and 9 mm,respectively,hexane extracts of *** also showed the antibacterial activity against two selected pathogens viz.,*** and *** with 15 mm and 12 mm of inhibition *** the three different concentrations(025,0.50 & 0.75 mg/mL) of methanolic extract of C. peltata show the inhibitory effect on the three susceptible bacteria ***,*** and E. coli with the maximum inhibition in the highest concentration(0.75 mg/mL).The methanolic and hexane extracts of *** exhibited the antibacterial activity against only one bacterium each *** and *** with the maximum zone of inhibition 13 and 11 mm respectively. Objective:To investigate the bioactive components of a coastal medicinal plant,Hyptis suaveolens(L.)Poit.(***)leaves using fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer(GC-MS).Methods:The chemical compositions of the ethanol extract of whole plant of *** was investigated using PerkinElmer GC-MS,while the mass spectra of the compounds found in the extract was matched with the National Institute of Standard and Technology ***:The results of fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy analysis confirmed the presence of secondary alcohols,phenols,alkanes,alkynes,aromatics,nitro compounds and aliphatic ***-MS analysis of the ethanolic extract revealed the existence of 30 phytochemical compounds.5,5-Dimethylimidazolidin-2,4-diamine(20.35%)was found to be the major ***:The results of this study offer a platform to use *** leaves as herbal alternative for various diseases.

Stability of nonlinearly-perturbed systems with time varying delay using LMIs

This paper studies delay dependent robust stability and the stabilization problem of nonlinear perturbed systems with time varying delay. A new set of sufficient conditions for the stability of open as well as close loop systems are obtained in the sense of Lyapunov-Krasovskii. To reduce the conservatism, the work exploits the idea of splitting the delay interval into multiple equal regions so that less information on the time delay can be imposed to derive the results. The derived criterion not only improves the upper bounds of the time delay but also does not require the derivative of the delay to be known at prior. Easily testable sufficient criteria are presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. It is shown that the derived conditions are very less conservative while comparing the maximum allowable upper bound of delay with the existing results in literature.

Objective:To evaluate the phytochemical and anti-bacterial efficacy of the seed kernel extract of Mangifera indica(***) against the enteropathogen,Shigella dysenteriae(***), isolated from the diarrhoeal stool ***:The preliminary phytochemical screening was performed by the standard methods as described by *** extraction method was employed to extract the bioactive compounds from mango seed *** diffusion method was adopted to screen antibacterial *** inhibitory concentration(MIC) was evaluated by agar dilution *** crude extracts were partially purified by thin layer chromatography(TLC) and the fractions were analyzed by high performance thin layer chromatography(HFTLC) to identify the bioactive ***:Phytochemical scrutiny of *** indicated the presence of phytochemical constituents such as alkaloids,gums, flavanoids,phenols,saponins,steroids,tannins and *** activity was observed in two crude extracts and various fractions ***,benzene,chlor of orm,methanol and *** of methanol fraction was found to be(95±11.8)μg/*** of other fractions ranged from 130-380μg/mL Conclusions:The present study confirmed that each crude extracts and fractions of *** have significant antimicrobial activity against the isolated pathogen 5. *** antibacterial activity may be due to the phytochemical constituents of the mango seed *** phytochemical tannin could be the reason for its antibacterial activity.

Objective:To assess antifungal activity of Ocimum sanctum leaves against dermatophytic fungi. Methods:Antifungal activity of Ocimum sanctum leaves was measured by 38 A NCCLS method. Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration(MFC) of various extracts and fractions of Ocimum sanctum leaves were also ***:Ocimum sanctum leaves possessed antifungal activity against clinically isolated dermatophytes at the concentration of 200μg/*** and MFC were high with water fraction(200μg/mL) against dermatophytic fungi ***:Ocimum sanctum has antifungal activity,and the leaf extracts may be a useful source for dermatophytic infections.

Cytokinin induced shoot regeneration and flowering of Scoparia dulcis L.(Scrophulariaceae)-an ethnomedicinal herb

Objective:To develop an improved protocol for micropropagation of ethnomedicinally important Scoparia dulcis(***) ***:Explants were inoculated on MS basal medium supplemented with kinelin and 6-benzylaminopurine for shoot bud *** enhance the shoot induction,various auxins like 3-indoleacetic acid or 3-indolebutyric acid or a-naphthylacetic acid were tested along with 2.32 M KI and 4.44 μ M *** regenerated shoots were rooted in half strength MS medium supplemented with various concentrations of IAA,IBA or *** roots were developed,the plantlets were transplanted to pots filled with vermiculate and sand and kept in growth chamber with 70%-80%humidity under 16 h *** acclimatization,the plantlets were transferred to the garden and survival percentage was *** were statistically analyzed and means were compared using Duncan's multiple range test(P<0.05).Results:An in vitro method was developed to induce high frequency shoots regeneration from stem,mature leaf and young leaf explants of *** induction on young leaf explants was most successful in MS medium supplemented with combination of two cytokinins(2.32 μ M KI and 4.44 μ M BAP) 2.85 μ M IAA,10%CM and 1 483.79 μM adenine sulfate.A single young leaf explant was capable of producing 59 shoots after 13 days of culture. Flower was induced in medium supplemented with combination of KI and ***: Cytokinins are the key factor to induce the direct shoot regeneration and flowering of ***.

Objective:To evaluate the in vitro antifungal activity of Aegle marmelos leaf extracts and fractions on the clinical isolates of dermatophytic fungi like Trichophyton mentagrophytes,Trichophyton rubrum,Microsporum canis,Microsporum gypseum and Epidermophyton ***:The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration(MFC) of various extracts and fractions of the leaves of Aegle marmelos were measured using method of National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards(NCCLS).Results:Aegle marmelos leaf extracts and fractions were found to have fungicidal activity against various clinical isolates of dermatophytic *** MIC and MFC was found to be high in water and ethyl alcohol extracts and methanol fractions(200μg/mL) against dermatophytic fungi ***:Aegle marmelos leaf extracts significantly inhibites the growth of all dermatophytic fungi *** this activity is confirmed by in vivo studies and if the compound is isolated and identified,it could be a remedy for dermatophytosis.
