Circulating monocytes （Mos） may continuously repopulate macrophage （MAC） or dendritic cell （DC） populations to maintain homeostasis. MACs and DCs are specialized cells that play different and complementary immunological functions. Accordingly, they present distinct migratory properties. Specifically, whereas MACs largely remain in tissues, DCs are capable of migrating from peripheral tissues to lymphoid organs. The aim of this work was to analyze the expression of the fractalkine receptor （CX3CR1） during the monocytic differentiation process. Freshly isolated Mos express high levels of both CX3CR1 mRnA and protein. During the Mo differentiation process, CX3CR1 is downregulated in both DCs and MACs. However, MACs showed significantly higher CX3CR1 expression levels than did DC. We also observed an antagonistic CX3CR1 regulation by interferon （IFn）-γ and interleukin （IL）-4 during MAC activation through the classical and alternative MAC pathways, respectively. IFn-γinhibited the loss of CX3CR1, but IL-4 induced it. Additionally, we demonstrated an association between CX3CR1 expression and apoptosis prevention by soluble fractalkine （sCX3CL1） in Mos, DCs and MACs. This is the first report demonstrating sequential and differential CX3CR1 modulation during Mo differentiation. Most importantly, we demonstrated a functional link between CX3CR1 expression and cell survival in the presence of sCX3CL1.

Cruise shipping in the Arctic region is a growing industry, yet there is no widespread discussion on how to deal efficiently with cruise ship garbage and sewage pollution in the Arctic region. Especially now that the industry is planning to bring larger passenger vessels through the Arctic region, one of the last pristine natural ecosystems in the world, waste management thus becomes a pressing issue. Canada has been lauded for its stringent regulations regarding oil spills and discharges. With the upcoming increase in cruise ship operations in the Canadian Arctic, it is of particular interest to develop an in-depth analysis of the regulatory system, currently in place in Canada, for garbage and sewage discharge management from passenger vessels. The research focused on the analysis of the relevant international regulations and Canadian legislation, aimed at the prevention of pollution applicable to cruise shipping. Scholarly articles, international and national legislation, reports and technical guidelines, and cases of marine incidents were collected and analyzed in order to provide a detailed study of the pros and cons of current Canadian environmental regulations in the Arctic region. In addition, suggestions for strengthening the regulatory system and for application of measures to protect this environment are provided. The results of the research describe the strengths and weaknesses of Canadian legislation while contrasting it with international regulations in place. Potential gaps and challenges include a lack of capacity, lack of infrastructure, information gaps, and lack of binding regulations and administrative body. Suggestions are provided in order to achieve a more sustainable management of tourism activities in the Arctic region. The aim of the present study was to determine the impact of oxygen concentration on implantation, pregnancy and delivery rates in IVF patients older than 40 year old with transfer of blastocysts. Included were 558 women aged 23-45 years old undergoing IVF/ICSI procedures whose embryos were cultured at blastocyst stage under two different oxygen environments (a bi-gas system: 5.6% CO2 in air and a tri-gas system: 5.6% CO2, 5% de O2 and 89.4% n2). The main outcome measures of this study are implantation, pregnancy and delivery rates. Implantation, pregnancy and delivery rates are found to be reduced in women older than 40 years old. The implantation and pregnancy rates are significantly higher in women older than 40 years old from the 5% of O2 group, in comparison to the 20% group (25.00% versus 2.70% and 41.38% versus 5.56%;P nd 5.56% in the 5% and 20% oxygen groups respectively (P: nS). The birthweight was similar in both study groups (P: nS). Gestational age was significantly longer in wo- men from the 5% of O2 group, in comparison to the 20% (36.87 versus 35.87 weeks, P ndicated that the embryonic culture with 5% of oxygen and transfer of blastocysts in women older than 40 years old improve the results in the in Vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic injection procedures (IVF/ICSI).

Human spermatozoa may chemotactically find out the egg by following an increasing gradient of attractant molecules. Although human spermatozoa have been observed to show several of the physiological characteristics of chemotaxis, the chemotactic pattern of movement has not been easy to describe. However, it is apparent that chemotactic cells may be identified while returning to the attractant source. This study characterizes the pattern of movement of human spermatozoa during chemotactic re-orientation towards a progesterone source, which is a physiological attractant candidate. By means of videomicroscopy and image analysis, a chemotactic pattern of movement was identified as the spermatozoon returned towards the source of a chemotactic concentration of progesterone （10 pmol I^-1）. First, as a continuation of its original path, the spermatozoon swims away from the progesterone source with linear movement and then turns back with a transitional movement that can be characterized by an increased velocity and decreased linearity. This sperm behaviour may help the spermatozoon to re-orient itself towards a progesterone source and may be used to identify the few cells that are undergoing chemotaxis at a given time.

The lamina cribrosa thickness（LCT） could be affected by dynamic changes in its *** spectral-domainoptical coherence tomography（SD-OCT）,we have studied the behaviour of the laminar region in 14 young subjects over 24 *** changes in LCT were observed,depending on the time at which the measurement was taken,with the maximum thickness being observed at 7.30 p.m.,and the minimum at 7.30 *** finding could suggests a circadian pattern in the LCT thickness in healthy subjects,which could have implications for the classification,diagnosis and prognosis of both normal and glaucomatous subjects.
