Impact of Three Isolates of Cercosporidium personatum (Berk. Et M.A Curt.), a Pathogen of Late Leaf Spot, on Defoliation and Yield in Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) under Controlled Conditions

Late leaf spot caused by Cercosporidium personatum is one of the most widespread groundnut leaf diseases. Along with early leaf spot and rust, it is one of the main fungal diseases hampering groundnut production worldwide. Late leaf spot accounts for significant yield losses throughout the world where groundnuts are grown. This reduction in yield caused by the disease could result in yield losses of between 50% and 70%. In Burkina Faso, the disease is present throughout the country, with incidence varying according to region and season. Could the variability in the incidence of the disease be linked to the nature of the isolates or to the conditions from each agro-ecological zone? In this study, the aim was to assess the capacity of three isolates from three agroclimatic zones of the country to defoliate and reduce groundnut yield. To this end, three isolates of Cercosporidium personatum (Berk. Et M.A Curt.) were collected in these zones and evaluated on three contrasting groundnut varieties. A split-splot design was used for the experiment. Isolates were prepared from samples collected in farmers’ fields. After incubation in the laboratory, leaf spots showing good sporulation were scraped off with a scalpel after immersing the leaves in distilled water. Inoculations were carried out under controlled environment. After inoculation with the isolate, the percentage of defoliation and the reduction in yield of these varieties were then evaluated. Inoculation was carried out from the 30th day after sowing with Cercosporidium personatum spore suspensions at 105 spores/ml. The study showed that the percentage of defoliation (P = 0.0001) and the reduction in yield (P = 0.0001) were significant. The study revealed that, whatever the variety, isolate I3TF from the Upper Basins region in the South Sudanese zone caused the greatest defoliation and the greatest reduction in yield. Objective: This study aims to analyze clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic aspects of sinusitis complications in the Otorhinolaryngology department at the teaching hospital of Gabriel Toure in Bamako. Materials and methods: This descriptive and longitudinal study was conducted on 12 months from March 2012 to February 2013 in 9 cases of sinusitis complications in the department of Otorhinolaryngology at the University Hospital Gabriel Toure in Bamako. Results: The average age of patients was 22.7 years;a median of 19 years within 6 men and 3 women with almost 12.9 days of care seeking duration. The factors of risky were the use of nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs NSAID (4 cases), maxillofacial trauma (1 case) and HIV (1 case). Facial pain was the major symptom, such as frontal oedema, rhinorrhea with pus shedding and nasal obstruction. Computer tomography was used for complications specification. Frontal sinusitis was the most encountered with subperiosteal abscess (44.4%). Streptococcus pneumoniae was identified in 3 cases. Medical treatment associated to surgery was conducted on 7 patients. Two cases of death have been registered. Conclusion: The complicated sinusitis is an emergency and dangerous disease requiring specific care by a multidisciplinary staff. Much of complications are commonly encountered despite the antibiotic era.

Intraventricular tuberculoma: A case report

Intracranial tuberculomas are one of the most serious formsof tuberculosis disease after meningitis tuberculosis. It incidence varies around 0.15% - 0.18% in the development world to 5% - 30% of intracranial masses in some under developments areas. These tuberculomas, of course ubiquitous, are mostly diagnosed in the adulthood and usually located in the cerebellum and the cerebral hemispheres. Intra ventricular involving is uncommon and just 10 cases had been described in the literature. We report a case of an intraventricular tuberculoma in a 26- year-old man and we discuss the pathogenesis and the radiological findings according this location.

The use of antimicrobials without microbiological proof is frequent and contributes to the emergence of resistance. The aim was to identify the organisms isolated during laboratory examinations and the type of antimicrobials consumed by patients hospitalized to Infectious Diseases’ Clinic. This is a cross-sectional and analytical study, carried out from January 1 to December 31, 2017 in the Infectious Diseases Department of Point “G” Teaching Hospital in Mali. All biological specimens from patients during the study period were analyzed. In total, 322 patients benefited from microbiological test, with a mean age of 40.9 ± 12.2 years (range 15 and 74 years) with a sex ratio of 0.93. Only 5.6% of patients were HIV negative. In all participants, a total of 658 microbiological specimen were taken, 224 (34.0%) identified at least one pathogen including bacteria in more than a half of the cases (58.5%). On the report of bacteriological analysis, the most frequently identified organisms were Mycobacterium tuberculosis (42.2%) mainly in sputum;Escherichia coli (24.2%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (7.8%) commonly in urine and Gardnerella vaginalis (7.0%) exclusively in vaginal secretions. Candida albicans (5/8) and Cryptococcus neoformans (3/8) were the most common fungi while Plasmodium falciparum (96.4%) represented the parasite frequently found in blood. From a therapeutic standpoint, 1143 antimicrobials were prescribed to 322 admitted patients, i.e. 3.55 anti-infectives per patient. Antibiotics (excluding tuberculosis drugs), antiparasitics and antifungals represented respectively 46.2%;18.8% and 15.1% of anti-infectives. Antibiotic therapy was effective in 274 (85.1%) patients and among them, only 76 (27.7%) cases were based on microbiological evidence. 目的:探讨西非国家马里共和国颅内各部位巨大脑膜瘤的手术入路、显微手术操作要点及临床意义。方法:对马里医院就诊的31例颅内各部位巨大脑膜瘤患者,经CT检查确诊后,根据肿瘤部位选择合适的手术入路,并采用显微操作行肿瘤切除。观察患者术后恢复情况及并发症等。结果:本组31例,按Simpson分级标准,Ⅰ级切除18例,Ⅱ级切除8例,ⅢⅡ级切除5例。术后恢复良好25例,病情恶化及死亡6例。结论:西非国家巨大脑膜瘤手术难度较大,对一些特殊部位的肿瘤,手术风险更大。因而,对于巨大脑膜瘤必须根据肿瘤部位、大小及相邻功能区,选择合适的手术入路。采用显微神经外科技巧及CUSA等手术技术,有助于更好的保护重要脑功能区及重要血管、神经,减少术后并发症,提高手术治疗的疗效。

Intracranial dermoid cysts are congenital benign neoplasms mostly diagnosed in the pediatric?hood and usually involve the midline structures. They count approximately less than 1% of all intracranial neoplasms and are believed to arise from ectopic cell rests incorporated in the closing neural tube. These dermoid cysts, especially those involving the posterior fossa and overlying the torcular, are uncommon. We report perhaps the first case of this entity in a third-year-old boy and discuss the physiopathogenesis, the imaging features and the best technical note to manage this cyst in this location.

Background: Fahr syndrome associates a set of neuropsychiatric manifestations with bilateral calcifications in the basal ganglia and phosphocalcic disorders. Neuromeningeal cryptococcosis can be present in its manifestations, neuropsychic disorders with or without meningeal signs. The objective was to describe a rare association between Fahr syndrome and neuromeningeal cryptococcosis which can be expressed by the same clinical symptomatology in the context of co-infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Presentation: A 37-year-old patient without pathological history, who presented behavioral disorders that led to a fight with those around her and a psychiatric consultation. Then, she was hospitalized in the infectious diseases Department upon discovery of her HIV status and viral hepatitis B. She was logorrheic with behavioral disturbances and subsequently presented with tonic-clonic convulsions. Laboratory tests and imaging have concomitantly discovered Fahr syndrome due to pseudohypoparathyroidism and neuromeningeal cryptococcosis. The correct management of these two pathologies enabled stabilization of the patient’s clinical condition with regular monitoring for HIV-HBV coinfection. Conclusion: Farh syndrome and neuromeningeal cryptococcosis are two different entities but sometimes similar symptoms and risk factors. Treatment of metabolic disorders combined with anticryptococcal therapy improved the prognosis.

Introduction: Voluntary assault and injuries are acts that damage the physical and psychological integrity of a human being. WHO in its global report on violence and health estimates that in 2000, 1.6 million people worldwide died as a result of self-harm, interpersonal or collective violence, resulting in an overall rate adjusted by age of 28.8 per 100,000 population. Because of the seriousness of this phenomenon and the heavy socio-economic and health consequences that they generate, it seemed important to us to undertake this study, which aimed to study the deliberate injuries in the emergency unite of the Gabriel Touré Teaching Hospital in Bamako. Material and methods: This was a descriptive and cross-sectional study with a prospective study from September 1st, 2016 to August 31st, 12 months, covering 295 patients, including any patient received for voluntary injury consultation with a workable medical record and/or a full investigation record with or without requisition. Our data were collected on individual survey cards and subsequently analyzed with Word, Excel, IBM SPSS Statistics 22 software. Results: The majority of victims of assault and bodily injury were male with 83.1%;with a sex ratio of 4.9, the 18 to 28 age group was the most concerned with 163 cases of the 295 cases in our study, 55.2%. The extremes were 6 and 100 years old with an ectype at 11.08. The most affected ethnic group was Bambara with 38.6% (n = 114) followed by Fulani with 15.6% (n = 46). Students were the most affected at 24.7% (n = 73), followed by traders at 10%. The victims coming from outside Bamako are the most predominant with 22.4% (n = 66) followed by those of commune IV of Bamako 15.6% (n = 46). In 92.2% of the cases the mechanism was direct with n = 272. Of the lesions recorded in our study, wounds came first with 53.2% of cases. Influence of Age on the Clinical and Prognostic Features of Tetanus in Mali

Background: The regression of post-vaccination immunity with age exposes elderly subjects to certain infectious diseases, in particular tetanus. The aim was to compare the clinical and prognostic features of tetanus according to the age of patients. Methodology: Analytical study of the files of patients hospitalized for tetanus in the Infectious Diseases Department at Point “G” University Teaching Hospital from 2013 to 2019 with retrospective collection. According to age, three groups of patients were formed: group I (Results: In total, 202 cases of tetanus were recorded or 7.3% of admissions. The mean age was 41.9 ± 15.6 years (range, 6 and 85 years) with a sex ratio of 19.2. According to the age grouping, group II was predominant (79.2%) followed by group III (14.9%) with respective mean ages of 39.2 ± 10.6 and 67.3 ± 6.5 and sex ratio of 39 and 29. Workers (33.3%), farmers (25.8%), traders (19.7%) and drivers (7.1%) represented the most important occupations most at risk. Clinically, bad general condition (p Conclusion: Tetanus is more prevalent in men. Complications and mortality increase with age. It is important to include booster immunization of adults in existing national programs in order to reduce disease-related morbidity and mortality in this age group.

Heterotopic pregnancy is no more a medical breakthrough. It combines intrauterine pregnancy and extra-uterine pregnancy regardless of location. We report a case of intra-uterine pregnancy associated with a ruptured abdominal ectopic pregnancy located on the pelvic colon in a 29-year-old patient, third gestation, primigravida, having a live baby and a prior history of two abortions. She has blood group O negative of Rhesus. It has been diagnosed at the stage of the rupture of ectopic pregnancy. An emergency laparotomy performed under blood transfusion has revealed heavy hemoperitoneum (1100 ml), a ruptured abdominal extra-uterine localized on the pelvic under blood transfusion and a bulging uterus. We have proceeded with the aspiration of hemoperitoneum, the ablation of the extra-uterine pregnancy and the hemostasis of the section part. The post-operative follow-up has been easy. The intra-uterine pregnancy has developed normally and has given birth to a full-term live, and healthy baby.
