Evaluation of fully covered self-expanding metal stents in benign biliary strictures and bile leaks

AIM: To investigate the use of fully covered metal stents in benign biliary strictures (BBS) and bile leaks. METHODS: We studied 17 patients, at Harbor-UCLA Medical center (Los Angeles), with BBS (n=12) and bile leaks (n=5) from July 2007 to February 2012 that had received placement of fully covered self-expanding metal stents (FCSEMs). Fourteen patients had endoscopic placement of VIABIL (Conmed, Utica, New York, United States) stents and three had Wallflex (Boston Scientific, Mass) stents. FCSEMS were 8 mm or 10 mm in diameter and 4 cm to 10 cm in length. Patients were followed at regular intervals to evaluate for symptoms and liver function tests. FCSEMS were removed after 4 or more weeks. Resolution of BBS and leak was documented cholangiographically following stent removal. Stent patency can be defined as adequate bile and contrast flow from the stent and into the ampulla during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) without clinical signs and/or symptoms of biliary obstruction. Criterion for bile leak resolution at ERCP is defined as absence of contrast extravasation from the common bile duct, cystic duct remanent, or gall blad-der fossa. Rate of complications such as migration, and instent occlusion were recorded. Failure of endoscopic therapy was defined as persistent biliary stenosis or continuous biliary leakage after 12 mo of stent placement. RESULTS: All 17 patients underwent successful FC- SEMS placement and removal. Etiologies of BBS included: cholecystectomies (n=8), cholelithiasis (n=2), hepatic artery compression (n=1), pancreatitis (n=2), and Whipple procedure (n=1). All bile leaks occurred following cholecystectomy. The anatomic location of BBS varied: distal common bile duct (n=7), common hepatic duct (n=1), hepaticojejunal anastomosis (n=2), right intrahepatic duct (n=1), and choledochoduo-denal anastomatic junction (n=1). Norming Subspaces Isomorphic to l_1

Norming subspaces are studied widely in the duality theory of Banach spaces. These subspaces are applied to the Borel and Baire classifications of the inverse operators. The main result of this article asserts that the dual of a Banach space X contains a norming subspace isomorphic to l1 provided that the following two conditions are satisfied：（1） X＊ contains a subspace isomorphic to l1; and （2） X＊ contains a separable norming subspace.

Phosphorus is a key nutrient element involved in energy transfer for cellular metabolism,respiration and photosynthesis and its supply at low levels can affect legume nodulation,N2 fixation,and C assimilation.A twoyear field study was conducted in Ethiopia in 2012 and 2013 to evaluate the effects of P supply on growth,symbiotic N2 nutrition,grain yield and water-use efficiency of three groundnut *** P to the genotypes significantly increased their shoot biomass,symbiotic performance,grain yield,and C *** was,however,no effect on shootδ13C values in either *** to the zero-P control,supplying 40 kg$ha–1 P markedly increased shoot biomass by 77%and 66%in 2012 and 2013,*** both years,groundnut grain yields were much higher at 20 and 30 kg$ha–1 *** supply markedly reduced shootδ15N values and increased the%Ndfa and amount of Nfixed,indicating the direct involvement of P in promoting N2 fixation in nodulated *** three genotypes differed significantly inδ15N,%Ndfa,N-fixed,grain yield,C concentration,andδ*** phosphorusgenotype interaction was also significant for shoot DM,N content,N-fixed and soil N uptake.

Mesoporous fibrous silicon nitride by catalytic nitridation of silicon

The catalytic effect of metal oxide/alumina whiskers（CeO;, Mn;O;, NiO, Co;O;, Fe;O;, Cr;O;/AW） was evaluated on their ability to drive the nitridation of silicon and to generate mesoporous fibrous silicon *** powder with different particles size along with the catalyst was nitridized at 1300 °C for 5 h in nitrogen and nitrogen diluted with 10 vol% ammonia atmospheres. Nitridation degree of silicon up to 99% was recorded using 1.5 wt% CeO;and Fe;O;catalysts in nitrogen-ammonia atmosphere. The catalyzed samples contain submicronic silicon nitride fibres with a diameter of 400–500 nm and a length of up to few micrometers. The compressive strength of 46 ± 1 MPa was measured for silicon samples catalyzed with nickel oxide/alumina whiskers and nitridized in N;/10 vol%NH;atmosphere. Porous silicon nitride networks were produced with 45–52% porosity, pore sizes in the range of 370–1200 nm and median pore in the range of 495–1655 nm.

开发新技术是解决与铁矿选矿有关的环境问题的有效途径。综合性矿物学研究有助于选矿过程的改进。笔者与IPKON研究所的专家们一起研究开发一种电化学的方法,以改善制备用于湿法磁选的矿粉的性质并研究了使用电化学方法前后样品的性状。采用扫描电镜(SEM)技术研究矿物颗粒表面,发现其在絮化作用中的差异;偏极化曲线的测定可以揭示磁铁矿、赤铁矿和假象赤铁矿等矿物表面的不均等电化学过程;X-射线分析和穆斯堡尔谱数据亦可确定电化学处理前后矿粉样品成分的变化。所研究样品的磁性,在采用该方法前后样品的对比揭示其在:磁粘滞性(Svo)、磁饱和场的破坏(Hcr)、磁化率(χ)、及磁化强度(Is)等参数的相应增大。
