Climate change is causing sea-level rise,intense and frequent storm surge flooding,and significant shoreline erosion in Malaysian coastal ***,coastal properties,infrastructure,and livelihoods are *** has become apparent that adaptation at the household and community level is necessary to offset the adverse impacts of coastal *** community needs to be made aware of the risks,acquire knowledge about adaptation options,and be empowered to take their own *** perception and preference are therefore crucial for design and implementation of effective planning for climate ***,this study assesses households'perception,adaptation measures and empirically estimates willingness to pay and preference for planned adaptation measures to guide policy instruments through public *** Malaysia,ten highly vulnerable coastal areas in the Selangor coast were surveyed at the household level(n=1016)through face-to-face interviews using a structured *** households’perception and adaptation methods,most of the households in the highly exposed areas perceived less risk of inundation and sea-level rise threat and adopted less proactive adaptation and limited risk reduction behaviours during the extreme *** study found that 66.9%of households were willing to pay for planned adaptation measures despite the limited income capabilities and in favour of moderate adaptation(23.9%).The binomial and ordinal regression results indicated that the probability of willingness to pay for planned adaptation measures significantly increases with age,prior exposure to coastal hazards,awareness,risk perception,community participation,being affected by property damage and loss of income due to extreme *** increased monthly household income and access to telecommunication services,households will probably pay higher for better adaptation measures.A significant amount of perceived yearly adaptation benefits in the coasta

Tourism is changing rapidly as nature and heritage destinations become more important, and as conventional tourism are forced to meet tougher environmental requirements. Therefore, geotourism emerges to meet the new demand for nature based tourism. It is a new form of sustainable tourism which aims to educate people the aesthetic, cultural, recreational and aesthetic value of geological heritage resources and plays as a solution for the apparent conflict between economic growth and environmental quality. With proper enforcement emplaced, this idea of protection through usage should lead to an increase in geological, environmental and socio-cultural awareness among geotourists and local guardians of geological heritage. On the other hand, the growing economic significance of nature tourism might trigger temptation to ignore any possible negative environmental and socio-cultural impacts(e.g. visitor over capacity, unaware and consumptive tourists, inadequate knowledge and enforcement during the construction of tourism infrastructures and amenities ***) consequently resulting in the same harmful effects as that of mass tourism which may put geoheritage resources under a serious threat and there rises the possibility of net loss of geotourism due to greater costs to compared to the benefits. The economic concept of value refers to any net change in the welfare of society. Hence, the measurement of the relative costs(direct, indirect and intangible) and benefits(economic, social, environmental and landscape) of geotourism is important in order to understand the impact of geotourism on the community as a whole, to protect community wellbeing, and to ensure the long term viability of the natural area tourism product. Thus this paper addresses the needs for geotourism valuation to ensure the sustainable development of geoheritage resources and provides a conceptual framework to measure the costs and benefits of geotourism which is vital to the success of a tourism developm
