conventional agricultural techniques have been degrading American soils nationwide since the beginnings of modern-day agriculture through practices such as soil tilling, using nitrogen synthetic fertilizers, and monocultural systems. These techniques contribute to degrading soil health, mass emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and decreased biodiversity. Regenerative agriculture techniques include the utilization of cover crops, compost, no-tillage, the integration of livestock, and crop rotation. The APS Laboratory for Sustainable Agriculture focused on the effectiveness of compost by comparing the growth of lettuce in four different treatments: 100% compost (100%c), 75% compost 25% Miracle-Gro (75%c - 25%MG), 50% compost 50% Miracle-Gro (50%c - 50%MG), and finally, 100% Miracle-Gro (100%MG). The lettuce seeds were kept in a growth tent for fifteen days during their period of germination before being transferred to four 1 × 1 × 0.15 m plots in the Food Forest at Florida Gulf coast University (FGcU) for the 60-day growth period. The lettuce crops grew to full bloom and were ready for harvest. Sampling events took place every six days in which crop growth data including wet weight (g), dry weight (g), nitrogen (mg/g), chlorophyll concentration (mg/cm2), and leaf area (LA) (cm2) were collected. Statistical analysis was then conducted from the data. Based on the statistical tests conducted at the 5% significance level using R statistical software, soil treatment type was found to be significant (p = 0.0002). Soil treatment type was shown to have significantly impacted wet weight (p χ2 [3] = 3.91, p = 0.2717). 100%c and 100%MG of soil treatments produced the most successful lettuce crops. The 100%c soil treatment yielded lettuce crops with the heaviest wet weights and the largest LAs, and the 100% MG soil treatment yielded the heaviest dry weights and the highest nitrogen readings. 目的先天性心脏病(cHD)是一种在全球范围内高发的慢性疾病,通常在出生时或出生前确诊。由于诊断以及早期药物和手术治疗的条件较好,患者的生存率达到90%,并且生存时间不断延长,面临着生活中的各种挑战。该研究探讨了不同人口统计学、临床和心理社会变量对cHD青少年和年轻成人患者的生活质量(QOL)感知、心理社会适应和精神障碍患病率的影响,评估cHD青少年和年轻成人患者的生活质量、心理社会适应和精神障碍发病率,确定哪些变量(人口统计学、临床和心理社会变量)对缓解压力、促进恢复起到积极作用,哪些变量起到不良作用。方法该研究入组了150名cHD患者(男87例,女63例),年龄12～26岁(平均年龄:17.45±3.373岁)。对参与者进行了关于社会支持、家庭教育方式、自我形象、人口统计信息和生理限制等方面的访谈。他们对标准化精神病学访谈(SADS-L)中的问题进行了回答,并填写了自我报告问卷,以进行生活质量(WHOQOL-BREF)和心理社会适应(YSR/ASR)的评估。结果所有参与者精神障碍的终身患病率为18.7%(女性25.4%,男性13.8%)。57.1%的参与者有过留级(平均1.53±0.804年)。与整体葡萄牙人相比,cHD患者的生活质量感知在社会关系、环境、身体和总体方面较好。而女性、学习成绩差、较少的社会支持、复杂性cHD、紫绀型cHD、中重度残留病灶、接受过手术和有生理限制患者生活质量感知较差。除了紫绀,所有这些变量也会引起较差的心理社会适应。结论女性cHD患者及学习成绩差且获得社会支持少的cHD患者的心理社会适应和生活质量较差。

Effortful control (Ec) is a temperamental self-regulatory capacity, defined as the efficiency of executive attention [1], which is related to individual differences in self-regulation. Although effortful control covers some dispositional self-regulatory abilities important to cope with social demands of successful adaptation to school, such as attention regulation, individual differences in Ec have recently been associated with school functioning through academic achievement including the efficient use of learning-related behaviors, which have been found to be a necessary precursor of learning and they refer to a set of children’s behaviors that involve organizational skills and appropriate habits of study. Therefore, the aim of this study is to review the literature on Ec’s relationship to academic achievement via learning-related behaviors, which reflect the use of metacognitive control processes in kindergarten and elementary school students. The findings indicate that Ec affects academic achievement through the facilitation of the efficient use of metacognitive control processes.

生态系统的物质收支有助于评价一个景观中可与生物体结合的污染物质的运输和累积,因为物质和能量流动最终决定环境中污染物质分配的速率。本研究比较生态系统的性质,如净初级生产量(NPP)、物质接收和进入到人类食物源的通量,这对于描述瑞典东南部的一个较大集水区域内14个集水区中可与生物体结合的放射性核素的通量和累积可能是重要的。作为有机物质的一个替代变量,碳收支主要基于碳库和通量的局地估计,这些值已通过地理信息系统(GIS),分配于一个具有不同植被类型和管理体制的景观镶嵌体中。净初级生产量以一个接近于2的因子而变化(432～709g c/m^2·a),而生态系统净生产量因集水区不同而在-124～159g c/m^2·a之间变化。碳接受主要发生于植被,而土壤有机碳库基本是碳源。大型食草动物平均消费地上部分绿色组织生产量的4.5%。当集水区存在耕地时,从农作物进入到人类的碳通量最高,按递减顺序,接着是来自于牛奶和牛肉的通量,然后是来自于打猎和浆果/真菌采摘的通量。这些结果可用于估计植被对放射性核素的潜在吸收情况,以及可与生物体结合的放射性核素对人类的潜在暴露水平。

In this paper, we develop a cascadic multigrid algorithm for fast computation of the Fiedler vector of a graph Laplacian, namely, the eigenvector corresponding to the second smallest eigenvalne. This vector has been found to have applications in fields such as graph partitioning and graph drawing. The algorithm is a purely algebraic approach based on a heavy edge coarsening scheme and pointwise smoothing for refinement. To gain theoretical insight, we also consider the related cascadic multigrid method in the geometric setting for elliptic eigenvalue problems and show its uniform convergence under certain assumptions. Numerical tests are presented for computing the Fiedler vector of several practical graphs, and numerical results show the efficiency and optimality of our proposed cascadic multigrid algorithm.

AIM:To compare the site,age and gender of cases of colorectal cancer(cRc) and polyps in a single referral center in Rome,Italy,during two ***:cRc data were collected from surgery/pathology registers,and polyp data from colonoscopy *** who met the criteria for familial adenomatous polyposis,hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease were excluded from the *** of patients between the two groups(cancers and polyps) was carefully ***χ 2 statistical test and a regression analysis were ***:Data from a total of 768 patients(352 and 416 patients,respectively,in periods A and B) who underwent surgery for cancer were *** the same time periods,a total of 1693 polyps were analyzed from 978 patients with complete colonoscopies(428 polyps from 273 patients during period A and 1265 polyps from 705 patients during period B).A proximal shift in cancer occurred during the latter years for both sexes,but particularly in *** cancer increased > 3-fold in period B compared to period A in males [odds ratio(OR) 3.31,95%cI:2.00-5.47;P cularly in males(OR 1.87,95%cI:1.23-2.87;P cI:0.96-2.73;P cONcLUSION:The prevalence of proximal proliferative colonic lesions seems to have increased over the last decade,particularly in males.

Gonadal determination in marine turtles depends on incubation temperature. The mechanisms that spark off this process remain unclear. Previously, we proposed that sensory nerves reaching the gonadal primordium in nominal female embryos of Lepidochelys (L) olivacea may sense and signal incubation temperature. These nerves could later trigger ovarian determination by releasing neurotransmitters in a code constructed based on the thermal information (Gutierrez-Ospina et al., Acetylcholinesterase-positive innervation is present at the undifferentiated stages of the sea turtle Lepidochelys olivacea embryo gonads: implications for temperature-dependent sex determination, J. comp. Neurol. 410 (1999) 90-98). The hypothesis briefly described, however, has been recently refuted under weak theoretical grounds and experimental misinterpretations (see introduction). Here, we present preliminary results that show that nominal female embryos have sensory neurons located in the dorsal horn laminae I and II of the lumbar spinal cord that display increased c-Fos-like immuno-staining after being incubated either at 15°c or 50°c. Because these spinal neurons are the primary central target of dorsal root ganglion neurons that innervate the urogential crest, these observations keep open the possibility that gonadal sensory nerves indeed signal thermal information that could later be used to trigger or instruct ovarian specification in marine turtles.
